My Dearest General: It Has Always Been You

Chapter 26 - Thoroughly Blacken Uncle Detective

Shi Nian was bored and the nurses who often played with her were all busy with their work. The hospital was swarmed with patients, she heard from the newscaster on TV that there was a huge chain reaction car accident nearby which garnered almost thirty injured people. The nearest hospitals were almost overwhelmed.

The floor which Shi Nian's room at was a special floor for single patients. Not all patients could stay here, for example Shi Nian had to stay here for her isolation and protection, and Jiang Jinyan was a famous athlete who needed utmost privacy, but of course Shi Nian didn't dare to look for him. Only knowing that he was safe and sound was enough, she already felt immense satisfaction seeing him from afar.

Hence, in the afternoon, the whole floor was practically empty.

She sat on the bench facing the floor to ceiling window and looked at the sky outside in daze.

It had been such a long time since she could enjoy free time where she didn't even know what she should do. Her life had been filled with school, multiple part time jobs, and housework, there wasn't any room for entertainment like hanging out in karaoke or the mall.

In a word, Shi Nian was an antisocial person. Because of her quiet and thin presence, she didn't even have any friends, thus when she was free like this, she really didn't know what to do except for daydreaming.

The spring breeze blew by, fluttering her jet black hair, and it was so cozy that she almost fell asleep.

Shi Nian's eyes were half lidded and her consciousness was starting to drift out to nowhere...

"What are you looking at?" A feminine voice suddenly sounded close to her ears, jerking her awake. She instinctively turned around, her mind still half awake and after catching sight of the person in front of her eyes, she became more and more dazed.

The person in front of her was a woman around twenty. The first thing Shi Nian noticed about her was her wavy light brown hair, it curled down to her waist like soft waves, enticing her to roll her fingers on it.

Pairing with that hair that was uncommon for Asians was a petite and voluptuous body. The curves and lines were all in the right places, not too much yet enough to leave much for imagination. Furthermore, she was wearing a turtleneck sweater and a pair of jeans, highlighting her full chest and round hips even more.

Unfortunately, she had a pair of eyes that always looked unfocused, just like how a blind person was. When she looked at you, it was like she was looking through you. But Shi Nian knew that her eyes were working just fine. Pairing with her aloof and expressionless face, she was like a block of ice that prohibited people from coming closer.

A burst of nostalgia struck her chest hard.

In their past lives, when they were running away from the fugitives, Shi Nian tripped on a vine and fell down only for a pair of strong arms to lift her up and push her away. Those split seconds earned them Shi Nian's life in exchange for hers.

Blood splattered onto Shi Nian's face from the open wound on the woman's chest, rendering her frozen in place, her face pale considerably with tears welled up in her eyes.

But the woman remained resolute as she pushed her. Blood trickled down her jaw, and her eyes that always seemed unfocused were bursting with a dazzling light like a pair of blazing flames. "RUN!" The woman yelled to her. "Get away from here!"

Shi Nian's lips trembled but nothing came out from it. At that time, her tongue had just been cut off, and the wound hadn't even dried up yet. Pain shot through her mouth and the taste of rancid blood filled her cavity.

Gritting her teeth, Shi Nian scrambled up and ran like a flying arrow.

The woman's voice followed behind her, "Don't ever look back!"

The taste of salty tears and sweat was forever embedded in her mind as she ran through the dense forest with the sound of slaughters, curses and screams of despair behind her trail.

The woman tilted her head. Her expression didn't change in the slightest as she asked, "Why are you looking at me like that?"

Even though her tone didn't fluctuate, Shi Nian could detect a hint of confusion in it.

She blinked her damp eyes and gave an apologetic smile.

Finally, the woman sat on the chair beside Shi Nian and following her movement, looked out toward the window where the boundless expanse of blue sky was. "What's so good about the sky to make you stare at it for so long?"

Shi Nian scrambled around to search for her board to no avail.

"Are you searching for this?" The woman lifted the thing she was looking for.

Shi Nian turned sluggish. How come she didn't realize that her board was taken away? This big sister…she really didn't change at all. Always surprising her with her weird antics.

She voluntarily gave the board to Shi Nian in which she wrote. [Nothing. I just have nothing to do.]

The woman looked at her writing and nodded. "You have nice handwriting."

Shi Nian whose handwriting was being criticized by uncle detective every day: […thank you.]

"What's that pause in the beginning?"

[I've been told that I need to practice more in my handwriting.]

"Who told you that?" She snorted. "Such a distasteful man."

[How did big sister know that it's a man who said that?]

"Judging from your reaction, the possibility of it being a man is seventy five percent which I tend to be more inclined to. Moreover, we women are such a sensitive creature, who can bear to say that to such an adorable teenager? Thus, my initial conclusion is that it's a man, furthermore, he isn't that familiar with you, but his personality or maybe his line of job required him to be sharp, straightforward almost to the point of rudeness, in which I lean toward the former. In short, he's a thoroughly crude and distasteful man."

Shi Nian widened in astonishment. How could this big sister manage to blacken uncle detective to the point of no return with only four sentences?! She almost stood up in applause!

"Let me guess, is he a lawyer? Prosecutor? Reporter? Firefighter? Or maybe…" She tapped on her chin. "…a detective?"

Shi Nian stood up in a whoosh, her board fell down in a clatter.

The woman was dumbfounded, thinking that she somehow managed to piss the girl off.

Then in front of her unfocused eyes, Shi Nian started to…clap her hands.

In the empty corridor, the sound of her applause was especially loud and clear, it was practically echoing back and forth.

The corner of the woman's eyes twitched: "…"
