Chapter 417: Ch.416 Battlefront in the Universe
"If you have time to deal with magical issues in other worlds, why not return sooner to take over as Sorcerer Supreme? When the time comes, I'll teach you how to operate the protective array."
The Ancient One pointed at the Eye of Agamotto hanging on her chest with her empty hand.
"Uh, we'll see. I'm still a bit busy right now." Su Ming felt a bit of a headache coming on—his original plan was to keep postponing this forever. It's better to change the subject: "Oh, right, I found an artifact. Could you help me integrate it into my helmet visor?"
To divert the topic, he took out the "Eye of Ra" from his bag and handed it to the Ancient One.
The Ancient One took it and examined it. It was very beautiful, and the magical energy was abundant.
Although this kind of magic was quite unfamiliar, the Ancient One was certain it was a kind of magic, not divine power.
"I thought our world was already in a post-magic era. I didn't expect the world you're talking about to have an even worse magical environment than ours."
Well, that wasn't entirely true, because strictly speaking, only God could be called a deity in the DC universe.
All the other so-called gods were once "Prometheans," essentially today's wizards—former humans who, using stolen fire, proclaimed themselves gods.
So the Eye of Ra, called an artifact by them, was just a powerful magical tool in the eyes of the Ancient One—not truly an artifact.
"It's pretty complicated over there; it's hard to explain it all at once..."
"Alright then, give me the helmet. Although I also want to teach you fusion magic, there's no way you could learn it. Looks like you'll need a sorcerer assistant after you take over."
Seeing he wasn't willing to elaborate, the Ancient One figured time must be pressing, which she understood.
As before with the Cloak of Levitation, she merely chanted an incantation, and then she put the two items together. The Eye of Ra was integrated into the helmet.
Of course, the original power supply of the helmet visor was just electrical energy, which clearly couldn't drive this thing, so Su Ming offered a Manhattan Gem as payment.
The Ancient One had said those gems were very valuable, but it was clear that the current usage was rather superficial.
She knew a bit about these gems, but felt the time wasn't right, giving him only vague hints.
Shapes of cubes, triangles, and dots formed geometric patterns, yet Su Ming had not encountered anything like it so far.
"Alright, the investigative tool has been fully integrated, though I must say I've seen far more crystal balls." The Ancient One handed the helmet back to Su Ming. She seemed more interested in when he would take over. "The Magic Prince has a very high opinion of you. I think after you take over, he could serve as your advisor."
"Uh, I'll discuss it with him."
Su Ming put on his helmet and sighed quietly. Why couldn't he dodge this topic?
"Hehe, well, you should go handle your affairs quickly then."
The Ancient One closed her eyes, seeming to savor the taste of the spicy strips.
Su Ming exhaled and left the room. After greeting Mordo, who was coming toward him, he immediately self-harmed again, returning to beyond the multiverse.
Mordo watched him disappear in the courtyard, only leaving a few footprints and a pool of blood on the snow-covered ground. Mordo shrugged inexplicably and walked into the room.
"Master, the repair work is basically complete, and the array is functioning normally." He respectfully reported to the Ancient One.
The Ancient One nodded slightly, setting down her cup calmly: "Very good. Go call Wong, I have something to discuss with him."
Snowflakes continued to fall in the courtyard as Mordo went to carry out the order. The Ancient One enjoyed her state of tranquility and non-action.
While suffering from the torment of the pepper, she still maintained a tranquil mind. It was quite a good exercise, and the Ancient One started to consider the possibility of implementing this exercise across all of Kamar-Taj.
As the next Sorcerer Supreme, Slade would surely be willing to provide plenty of spicy strips to help his fellow practitioners.
Having made a trip to Kamar-Taj, using up a fair amount of time, Su Ming didn't have time to return to his group for rest. He immediately flew furiously toward DC.
The Cloak seemed to have come alive, now full of power and moving at an incredibly fast speed.
It was just that crossing the breach in the Source Wall brought a bit of trouble. The area had completely turned into a battlefield.
Colors swept across space in various shades, bringing silent destruction and death.
Judging from the colors, at least five lantern corps were fighting here against those revived giants on the wall.
Being someone coming from outside the Source Wall, Su Ming was immediately intercepted.
A green lantern girl with a large eye, along with a brown-skinned Star Sapphire, blocked his path.
"Please step aside, I'm just passing through."
He directly bypassed them, speaking in English. Anyway, the power rings came with built-in translation for all universal languages—they could understand. The Green Lantern girl laughed angrily, her pointed ears twitching as she and the Violet Lantern chased after him.
Outside was the Source Sea and the Reservoir of Light! Did he think it was a starport's landing pad? Just passing through—that was definitely a lie!
This must be some anthropomorphic giant statue that could shrink, or maybe some kind of Omega Titan!
A green beam of light shot across in front of him—a warning shot.
Su Ming stopped. These cosmic cops were really annoying.
Everyone was having such a heated fight with the giants—why stop him? Shouldn't they go to the frontlines like the other lantern members and be cannon fodder?
Wouldn't it be good to get blasted into cosmic dust by those statues?
Su Ming looked at the distance, where lantern members were constantly falling in battle. He felt no emotion.
After all, power rings were free, and as soon as frontline members were lost, the power batteries on Oa or other homeworlds would immediately generate more rings, selecting new members across the universe.
As for whether it was appropriate for these untrained newcomers to face cosmic-level giants... Well, people always said combat was the best training.
If they died, that was the end. If they survived, they'd be a seasoned veteran.
Currently, the colors present were red, green, violet, blue, indigo, plus White Lantern Kyle. The Yellow Lantern Corps was nowhere to be found.
Sinestro had turned into the Invisible Spectrum entity, but what about the other Yellow Lanterns? Was big oaf Arkillo in charge now?
"This area is restricted. Demon, return beyond the Source Wall."
The Green Lantern girl raised her chin and pointed in the direction of the breach. The green ring on her hand glowed brightly, as if she were about to attack.
Meanwhile, the Star Sapphire seemed more reserved, continually sizing up Deathstroke while whispering to her companion.
"Looks like a regular human, from Sector 2814."
The Green Lantern shook her head, an expression of arrogance appearing on her elven-like face. "I know more about this than you. I've been to Earth in Sector 2814. People there can't leave their planet on their own, let alone survive in space. This is definitely a fake."
The Star Sapphire nodded. She seemed to understand, but also not understand. The power ring's scans weren't working on this individual.
Su Ming had no intention of fighting them—they were too weak and could easily be dealt with.
But there was no reason to do that, as there was no benefit at all.
"Who's in charge here? Hal? Carol? Just get them over here—I can prove my identity."
"No need, he can pass." A cryptic voice sounded, a point of blue light flying over quickly from the distance. "His heart is full of hope—the Blue Lantern Corps is willing to vouch for him."
"Thank you, Saint Walker."
Since he'd gotten clearance, Su Ming didn't want to linger here.
The leader of the Blue Lanterns, Saint Walker, was always cryptic. There was no point in chatting—it would just waste time.
The Blue Lantern rings didn't have much direct offensive capability; they were the buff-makers among all the lantern corps.
A regular power ring could only harness 100% of its power through its corresponding emotional energy, but with the Blue Lantern buff, that number became 200%.
A doubling effect.
However, the Blue Lanterns had a hard time in the universe. When dealing with the lantern corps, most people aimed for the Blue Lanterns first.
After repeated attacks, their numbers dwindled significantly. Since their recruitment standards were much higher than other corps, they were the most depleted.
In history, the Blue Lanterns had once been reduced to just Saint Walker, who had to take refuge with the Green Lanterns.
By the way, Harley had worn power rings too. She had bought authentic Red and Black Lantern rings from an online marketplace, and the two rings even fused into a black-red ring, instantly boosting her power.
But after a bit of mischief in the city, feeling filled only with death and rage—things that weren't her style—she threw the rings away, stole Hal's Green Lantern ring, wore it for a while, and even saved the Earth once.
Though the Blue Lanterns weren't like the Indigo Tribe with their saint complex, they were at least the good guys of the universe. Su Ming liked them but would never become like them.
His hope? It was simply a hope for himself.
Saint Walker stepped aside, making a gesture of welcome. As Su Ming passed by him, a whisper entered his ear.
"Beware of the invisible ring on your hand."
Su Ming glanced at him, then quickly flew towards Earth.
