Chapter 393: Ch.392 Legendary Swords
Chapter 393: Ch.392 Legendary Swords
"There's only one visible. The other is obscured by magic, a very powerful sorcerer using anti-divination techniques," Vivienne explained, gesturing for the group to see for themselves as she took a moment to rest. The methods of their opponent reminded her of her sister, Morgan.
Very unpleasant memories.
After all, she was the one who first prophesied Arthur would be king, gave him his sacred weapon, and took him to Avalon to heal.
But then Morgan was reborn as Arthur's half-sister, and she seduced him into an illicit affair. That forbidden passion was too compelling, leading King Arthur to ultimately die at the hands of his own son.
This was nothing like the future Vivienne had foreseen. How had it come to this?
Lady of Shalott had always stayed out of it. She believed that once the Sword in the Stone shattered and Arthur took up the Broken Steel Sword Vivienne gave him, his tragic fate was sealed.
Humans and the Ancients were never meant to have a happy ending.
Even in retrospect, Morgan's sacrifice amounted to nothing, just as Vivienne's did.
Meanwhile, Su Ming and his companions closely observed the images formed by the lake's water. Truth be told, the completely transparent 3D imagery was hard to interpret.
It would've been easier if the lake had some color.
Still, they were one step ahead—this was prophecy, after all, something that hadn't happened yet.
"It looks like a rainforest," Bobo muttered, walking around the lake's edge and observing the images from different angles.
"Ah, if you say it's a rainforest, then it must be true. After all, you'd be the expert," Arabella immediately seized the opportunity to mock the chimp. She loved making jokes about Bobo's animal nature.
Su Ming simply took out his phone to take a photo. The Hall of Justice had the world's best detectives eagerly awaiting 24/7, so he might as well make use of them.
Instead of the group struggling to solve a puzzle here, why not let the Justice League's facial recognition system and satellite images have a go at it?
However, Maia being an alternate dimension meant there was no signal, so they'd need to return first.
"I heard you're also an excellent blacksmith?"
Su Ming asked Vivienne. At least, that was what the legends said—the Lady of the Lake's sword was almost synonymous with divine weapons.
Vivienne seemed lost in thought but snapped back when she heard the question.
"I once was, yes. I forged two of the finest weapons—created by using the flow of water."
"Can we take a look?" Su Ming put away his phone and gestured with his hand.
"Why should I show them to you?" Vivienne tilted her head, puzzled.
"The world is about to be destroyed. Are you planning to keep your sacred weapons at the bottom of the lake for fish to look at?" Su Ming once again played the world crisis card.
It was the truth. He was just being honest.
Vivienne sighed. This man was blunt, but he wasn't lying. His body carried mixed magical auras and a strong, unknown power.
Someone like him had no need to deceive her.
She raised her hand, and streams of water lifted two weapons from the lake's depths. They seemed to float on the crests of waves—one white, one black.
Su Ming had been quite excited, having heard of these legendary weapons even in his previous life as a geek.
The Sword of Promised Victory and the Unbreakable Lake Light, Excalibur, and Lancelot's Arondight.
Of course, calling them that would cross into another universe. In the DC Universe, their proper names were the Broken Steel Sword and Arondight.
Vivienne extended her slender hands, holding the blades by their edges, stepping lightly across the lake towards the shore, and handed them to Su Ming.
He unceremoniously took them. They were indeed excellent weapons, but calling them sacred weapons only applied to mortals.
The Broken Steel Sword, Arthur's weapon, had been returned to Vivienne by Merlin after Arthur's death. Upon touching it, Su Ming realized it was just a standard knight's sword.
It was made of promethium, not a rare material but very sturdy. Vivienne's aesthetic was good—the sword exuded a regal aura, like a quiet throne standing in a palace.
But that was all. It had no magic, no divine enchantments—just a pure melee weapon.
Arondight was the same, except it was made from nth metal and was black.
The materials were decent, but in his eyes, they were only half-finished products. Without divine enchantments or special effects, these weapons were useless to him.
"Not exactly Noble Phantasms, are they? You can keep them," he said, disappointed, and returned the weapons to Vivienne, motioning for the group to move on. What he really wanted was the Broken Steel Sword's scabbard, Avalon, which still held the power to greatly enhance healing in the DC Universe.
But just as in history, the scabbard had been lost by Arthur.
"???" The Lady of the Lake looked bewildered. He asked for the legendary swords and now didn't want them. What was going on?
Su Ming wouldn't openly admit he wasn't impressed. He already had the Godslayer and the Midnight Sword—he didn't need another regular melee weapon. Even his owl-shaped dagger, also made from promethium, never saw use!
Bobo wouldn't use a sword, and even if he needed one, there was always Nightblade, a magical weapon.
Donna, like Diana, had plenty of Vulcan-forged swords. She could spend her free time breaking them if she wanted—she didn't need another weapon.
And as an anomaly among the Amazons, Donna specialized in non-lethal weapons. Her favorite melee weapon was the staff.
As for Arabella, she did seem interested in the legendary swords, but Su Ming could see from her eyes that she planned to sell them for cigarettes and booze.
Best to leave these weapons with Vivienne as keepsakes.
Nightblade once again tore open space, and the group returned to the Oblivion Bar, where human sorcerers often gathered. The previous Dark Master had set up a signal relay station in the bar.
Not only was there signal reception, but there was also Wi-Fi, and they could even watch broadcasts from any TV station on Earth.
As for how the previous Dark Master combined technology and magic to make it work in a pocket dimension, Su Ming had no clue. But he could enjoy the benefits now.
He flipped through the photos on his phone. Surely Batman had seen them by now.
And indeed, soon a string of coordinates and a name were announced through his phone's speaker. Though Batman was paralyzed from the neck down, his efficiency hadn't diminished in the slightest.
"Alba Garcia, codename 'Black Orchid,' another friend of the Justice League," Bobo grumbled upon hearing the name from Batman.
Did Hecate have some grudge against the Justice League?
Su Ming knew about this woman. Though her story wasn't well-known, the basics were clear.
Simply put, she was a "plant person," like Poison Ivy.
The difference was that she had a gentler personality and tended to cry easily, but her abilities were no less formidable.
She had flight, super defense, healing, super speed, photosynthesis, shapeshifting, and a whole slew of other powers. If she wished, she could even voluntarily reincarnate—that is, choose to go to death and be reborn.
Her powers came from the Green and the Red—the collective consciousness of Earth's plants and animals.
It seemed Hecate's ambitions were grand indeed. Not only did she want the magical world, but she was also eyeing the natural world as well.
Now, the team needed to head to the rainforest to deal with Black Orchid. The abundance of plants there made the Green too strong—they had to make preparations.
Fortunately, they were in a bar now, and alcohol was a useful thing.
