Chapter 52: You Look Absolutely Cool!

Chapter 52: You Look Absolutely Cool!

He was truly a carnivore who only feasted on meat. Eating meat was their source of protein. Without it, there was no strength for them to conduct their training. Thus, the food that was catered for the Special Forces was well known to be very specific and undeniably delicious.

The dishes that Lu Beixiao had tonight had no meat. He frowned upon the arrival of the food, but still decided to eat it. Every little expression of his seemed to be adorable to Ye Qiao.

“Excuse me; I’d like to have two duck drumsticks and two braised eggs!” She added on. The shopkeeper’s wife then fetched two drumsticks and two braised eggs from the pot on a coal stove.

It only took him a bite to finish off half of the drumstick. She could not help but wonder when things changed, for he was not a man who was particular about food. Every time he came home, he would simply heat the leftovers and finish everything,

...

The man had just got home. At the dinner table, he proceeded to gulp down the leftovers without a second thought. He then went straight to the living room and turned off the television.

Unyieldingly, he stared at the woman on the couch. She was obviously annoyed, so she stood up against his abrupt interruption, but he pressed on and pushed her back against the couch. In an instant, their lips touched.

“Lu Beixiao! What a filthy beast! Don’t you touch me!”

“If I can’t touch you, who else can? Shen? Ye Qiao, do you really think that I won’t murder that son of a bitch?”

Back in the present day, Lu Beixiao gave her forehead a gentle knock, which awakened her from the trance. “Aren’t you hungry? Why did you stop eating?”

Whilst she was caught in her momentary abstraction, he had already swallowed a drumstick and a bowl of cold noodles.

Her cheeks immediately flushed crimson, as if embarrassed for her negligence. She looked down and indulged in her food instead.

“What a wolf who only hunts for meat!” She muttered a double-edged remark to herself.

“What are you muttering about, girl?” Lu Beixiao gave her forehead a second tap.

“Ah, I was just saying how handsome you are tonight! You look absolutely cool!” Ye Qiao continued with sweet words on her lips. He was outstandingly handsome and very masculine. Indeed, the more she looked at him, the more she was obsessed with him.

Lu Beixiao simply could not hide his amusement. “I’ve always been handsome and cool, haven’t you noticed that before? Your eyes used to be fixed only on the boys from the other courtyard. I really wonder what you were thinking back then.”

The boys from next door had always been problematic, but never really succeeded in causing Lu Beixiao any trouble. In his absence, however, Ye Qiao turned out to be the biggest troublemaker, which put the rest of the boys from the same courtyard at a disadvantage.

Ye Qiao merely became abashed at his disapproval. “Xiao, I was blind to the realities. I was deceived by Shen Xichuan’s sweet talk and empty promises. He was the only person that I cared for, so I acted upon whatever he said. My vanity and snobbery were to blame. Because of him, I even refused to look back at my foster family for the past six years. I’ve done so many things wrong and let so many people down. Xiao, I was wrong, so terribly wrong,” she confessed honestly. She was actually apologizing for her past mistake, though he did not understand any of it.

Soon, her reddened eyes filled with tears. Panicked, Lu Beixiao was at a loss for words when he noticed it. He did not regard her misconduct to any degree of impertinence. She was simply being disloyal to her own group of people; it was not too big a deal. Why did she need to cry?

“Good girl. A fault confessed is half redressed. From now on, I shall be the only one that you care for. Let’s leave the hideous past behind and move forward. Rest assured that I’ll dedicate all my love for you!” Motivated by ardent love, his eyes lingered on her with intense feelings of affection.

His words echoed in her ears, like a powerful beat that she could not ignore. Lu Beixiao, you don’t have to be dedicated to me. Instead, I promise to dedicate all my heart and soul for you this time.

“Get me a packet of cigarettes,” he said. She did not eat much, so he was the one finishing off the leftovers.

“You’re smoking again! No, I’m not getting it!”

“If I quit smoking, will you let me kiss you?” He disregarded the crowd around them and gladly said.

“I will!” Ye Qiao resonated in a louder voice. All the other diners, including the shopkeeper’s wife, looked at her in bewilderment.
