Chapter 390 - Only Two Inches
Zhao Lifei exited the car and to no one’s surprise, she found herself standing outside of a tall building. She boarded the elevator with Nian Zewan. She was greeted with a posh restaurant that had a chic yet mellow European theme to it.
There were white-clothed tables with candles and small vases of flowers, black chairs, and large windows that provided an ample view of the beautiful city of Shenbei. Depending on where one was seated, they could see the city hall and the large scenic parks that Shenbei was known for. From some angles, they could see the large river and the enormous bridge connecting this city to the next. There were big pots of plants in porcelain vases, placed on polished marble floors with cracks of ivory and silver.
With laid back shoulders and an unimpressed face, Zhao Lifei lazily strolled with Nian Zewan towards the reception desk. Even from the desk, many people could get a good view of her self-assured posture. Curious glances wandered towards her only to avert it a second later when realization clicked. Her face was already known among the circle of elites, but now it was for a different reason: President of Feili.
"Sir, Ma’am, may I ask if you have a reservation?" The receptionist asked with a tinge of foreign accent. He was a man with an above-average face and good posture. This didn’t surprise Zhao Lifei. Most expensive restaurants had hidden criteria for their workers’ appearances. She boredly glanced around the place and allowed Nian Zewan to do the talking for her. All she had to do was stand there and look pretty, with an air of haughtiness around her.
To most onlookers, she truly behaved the part of an untouchable heiress.
"Yes, it’s for the private and exclusive room with the best view." Nian Zewan answered, his words causing the receptionist to raise both of his brows in surprise.
"I apologize, Sir, I didn’t know. Please, allow me to call the manager and escort you there." The receptionist was already polite when they approached him, but now that their status was revealed, he was extra careful of his behavior.
Zhao Lifei’s eyes fell on a man sitting by a window table, which is hard to get without a six-month reservation in advance. Even so, it’s not guaranteed they would get a seat here. Many influencers and celebrities had to strain every straw to book a seat here, for it solidified their place on the social ladder. So why is it that Wei Hantao was sitting there?
He was sitting with a smiling woman that seemed deeply engrossed in whatever he was saying. She sat cross-legged, revealing the perfect amount of skin to leer unfriendly glances towards her way. A beautiful posture, beautiful body, Zhao Lifei wandered the purpose of Su Meixiu’s presence.
From where Zhao Lifei stood, she could see Su Meixiu had caught wind of her presence. The secretary’s smile deepened a bit, her eyes glancing towards the path leading to the private room before she glanced back towards Wei Hantao.
Ah, so that’s what it was. Zhao Lifei hid her discreet little smirk and shifted her position so that her nimble body was hidden behind Nian Zewan. Wei Hantao didn’t know she was here, but Su Meixiu most certainly did. Not wanting to ruin her plan, Zhao Lifei decided it was best to avoid Wei Hantao for the time being.
Soon enough, the manager, a short, pudgy man with a friendly face, greeted them. "It’s an honor to serve you today. Please, follow me. I will lead you to the room." His voice was cheerful and bright, mirroring the light shining upon them.
Zhao Lifei glanced at Nian Zewan. "Who is it?" She asked, holding her clutch. She had found it in her closet this morning and judging from the unfamiliarity she felt from it, she concluded it was a gift from Yang Feng. The items in her closet alone could buy an enormous house, but he continued to send in gifts after gifts. It seems neither one of them wanted to put their gift war on hold, for she, too, had snuck a watch into his collection yesterday.
"We’re just a few steps away. I’m sure you can wait a bit longer, Mrs. President." Nian Zewan laughed a bit, smiling at the gloomy woman beside him.
Zhao Lifei was going to reply, but the manager had already guided them towards the black doors leading to the room. "I hope you enjoy your lunch with us. Please, if anything is not to your liking, inform me and I will fix it as you wish." He bowed his head and opened the door for them.
A nonchalant man was looking out of the window with his back turned towards her. He had an impressive body suitable for any clothing. His midnight-black three-piece suit hugged his body in the right places and gave him the appearance of a model stepping out of a magazine.
"Enjoy your meal, Mrs. President." Nian Zewan bowed before exiting the room, leaving her in there with a temperamental dragon.
Zhao Lifei wouldn’t have cared about his address, if it was not for the fact that he included a "Mrs." Her eyes widened a bit and she turned around, stunned at the title. Nian Zewan knew she was married.
"Don’t worry. He’s under me." A deep, velvety voice spoke from behind her, causing her body to tense, but then relax when he fondly pressed his lips towards the side of her head.
"You should’ve told me you wanted to have lunch together." Zhao Lifei leaned her body against his firm, sturdy one. His hands slid down to her sides, squeezing her waist before resting it over her stomach. With his fingers spread, he gently stroked and ran his hands over her tiny and barely noticeable bump.
"But that would have ruined the surprise." He turned her around, his nonchalant face softening upon seeing her face. He curled his finger and stroked her cheek. "What did I tell you about heels?" He suddenly asked her with a disapproving frown. "I knew there was a reason why you ran out this morning."
Zhao Lifei glanced down at her black rock stud garvani [1] heels. "They’re only two inches."
"The heel is very thin. You might hurt yourself." He brushed away the strands of hair framing her face. "I wouldn’t mind it if the heels were thicker."
Zhao Lifei narrowed her eyes, "Is that why my heel collection has suddenly disappeared?" She woke up this morning to find all of her favorite heels, specifically her red-bottoms, gone. They were replaced with low-heeled pumps that were from the newest season, but she was still angered at the disappearance.
When he unapologetically smiled at her and proceeded to kiss the five points of her face, she felt her anger wash away. Her lips twitched to maintain her pout when he pressed his lips against it for the briefest second before trailing small, open-mouthed kisses down her neck, ending up at her earlobe. Everywhere he kissed, she felt her skin tingle a bit, her anger lessening.
"If you dislike the newer ones, I shall buy you whatever you like." Yang Feng enjoyed seeing her hair tied up with strands framing her heart-shaped face. It revealed her beautiful, swan neck, but he was a greedy man who wanted her all to himself. He hitched the collar of her shirt higher. He wasn’t opposed to having her hair tied up and he wasn’t inclined to take off the hair-tie. He just wished she was covering it with a turtle-neck. His own thoughts and actions confused him. Was he angry or not?
"Maybe a few scarves to your collection would be great as well." He said to himself.
"I don’t like scarves." Zhao Lifei was confused by what he was attempting to do. She slapped his hands away, "You’re ruining the outfit."
"Am I now?" He sighed, dropping his hands and running it through his hair. "I think the necklace brings a lot of attention to your neck."
"You’re the one who gave it to me." She deadpanned.
"Oh." Yang Feng blinked.
"Did you invite me to lunch to criticize my outfit?"
"No."
"Then let’s eat." She flashed him a big smile, tugging him in the direction of the table. She was starving and the longer she waited, the angrier she was getting. She didn’t think she was the type of woman to get angry when she was hungry, but at this point, she didn’t care.
"How about we go shopping after this?"
"For?"
"Shoes." Then in a lower voice, whispered, "And turtlenecks."
Zhao Lifei paused. A devious plan came into mind. She smirked, "Okay." Flipping open the menu, she ignored the man eagerly waiting for her to glance his way with a smile. She was well-aware of his stare that demanded a form of action from her, whether it was a small kiss, or holding hands. But she was hungry and didn’t have time for him. Her eyes raked down the menu.
"I’m ready to order." She raised her head from the menu to which Yang Feng sulked. So she only looks at him when she wants food. He pressed a button on the table that notified the people outside it was fine to let the waiter in. Usually, the waiter would enter a minute or so after the guest was seated, but because Yang Feng didn’t want anyone to disturb them, he made the person wait outside.
"Good afternoon, Sir, Ma’am, it’s a pleasure to serve you today. May I start with the drinks?"
Yang Feng glanced at his wife whose lit up face made him quirk his brow.
"We’re ready to order the dishes as well. But first, let’s start with a pitcher of the orange and mango juice."
A-a pitcher? The waiter glanced at her and nodded his head, jotting everything down with his memory.
"Then, I would like everything from here to here." Zhao Lifei’s finger raked down the small menu, stopping at the last dish with a small smile. The lunch menu always changed every day and each day, it was always a small selection with a varying length of five to ten selections. Today’s happened to be ten.
The waiter tried his hardest to not react to the number of dishes ordered. "W-will that be all?"
"Oh, my partner hasn’t ordered yet." Zhao Lifei turned to a flabbergasted Yang Feng and smiled brightly at him.
The waiter choked on air. T-ten dishes for one person?! He took a double-glance at her small frame and wondered where all of that food was going to fit!
