Chapter 107 I Would Fight To The Death
Yang Yulong wanted to ask a few questions, but he hesitated. After a few seconds of careful thinking, he finally did so.
"Do you have plans on going back to the military? What do you mean by flourish? Have you established your network there?" He was curious to see what other benefits she might bring in, aside from being simply Zhao Moyao’s "favored granddaughter". Even if he had known her as a child, he was still unconvinced she was worthy of being the future Madam Yang.
Zhao Lifei wasn’t surprised by his question but Yang Ruqin whacked him on the shoulder for it.
"Are you implying my Feifei is not worthy of becoming part of our family without connections?! She’s good as it is!" She fumed, upset that her brother is belittling the most important person in her life.
"I did." Zhao Lifei curtly replied.
Yang Yulong smirked. So she wasn’t as useless as he thought she was.
"How powerful are your connections? What’s their military rank?" Yang Yulong pressed her, curious to see if they could utilize her resources.
The Yangs are a powerful family, and they had nurtured deep connections within powerful places for decades. However, having a strong military backing would make them almost untouchable.
Zhao Lifei could guess his thought process. She turned to him with a cold expression.
"I will not use them for unjustly things." She firmly said, refusing to budge while Yang Yulong scrutinized her.
Yang Yulong narrowed his eyes as his easygoing smile dropped. Not use them for unjustly things? Hey, hey, just who do you think we are? You businessmen also do unjust things!
"Don’t you like my brother? Shouldn’t you do things for him as he had done things for you?" He asked her, wondering if she was even worth Yang Feng’s time and energy. She wasn’t willing to help out the family business? Then what’s the point in marrying her?
"My feelings for Yang Feng has nothing to do with you or your family."
"Who exhausted our family’s resources just to find you? Whose family’s people did you think cleaned up the mess you made? Which family’s secret base do you think your kidnapper is being kept? We violated laws just for you!" Yang Yulong furiously said, not believing how slow her brain was.
They were the Yangs and no one can mess with them, so he admittedly exaggerated a little. But still, he couldn’t help but get angry. Wasn’t she supposed to be smart? Why is she as dense as my brother?!
Zhao Lifei blinked in surprise, turning to Yang Feng with her mouth parted. He did that for her?
While the kidnapping would be classified self-defense and she would walk away with nothing but a lengthy investigation that would go nowhere, she had expected to require her grandfather’s help to make all of this disappear. But Yang Feng had already done that and much more.
"What? Did you think I’d leave you to the cops?" Yang Feng mused, finding her perplexed expression amusing. Did she seriously think that?
At his words, Zhao Lifei immediately felt guilty for what she said previously. But it was too late, what’s done has been done. She could only attempt to fix it.
"Well? What do you think about helping us out in the future? We’ll also help you out." Yang Yulong had noticed how the mood changed between the annoying couple. He decided that it was time to test the waters again and see if she had changed her mind. Besides, he had seen her grow up, thus, knew that her reputation isn’t exactly truthful.
"None of the connections I made in the military can be utilized right now as they’re not that powerful yet. I’m also acquainted with the sons and daughters of most of the government officials. While I do have material to leverage with them, we’ll have to wait until they inherit the position if we want to pull some strings." Zhao Lifei relented. Thinking about it now, her connections weren’t worth much help to Yang Feng.
She looked at Yang Feng who seemed relaxed as if he didn’t care she couldn’t help bail him out if something ever came up. However, she saw something flicker in his eyes and thought it was uncertainty.
"But if ever something happens to you, I-I-"...would fight to the death for you.
A blush traveled to her cheeks at what she was about to say next. It sounded so good in her head, but it was embarrassing to make this declaration out loud. She didn’t want to say it in a room filled with people.
When she had suddenly decided to reveal her connections for his use, he felt something bubbling up his chest, as if ready to surge out. He did not expect for her to look into his eyes, and almost reveal her feelings.
He already knew what she was going to say, thus, the edge of his lips tilted up in a smirk. While they sat together, he had kept his hands to himself. But now he placed an arm around her shoulder and gently tugged her closer. She didn’t budge and remained firm in her spot. He chuckled at her reluctance.
"I know what you’re going to say. It’s fine, these simple fools don’t have to hear it." He smoothly assured her, happy that she even had such thoughts. Their relationship was really progressing after so long! The thought made him very giddy inside. He felt like he had just received the best present of his life.
Because she wasn’t willing to move closer, he decided to be the one to move. Leaning close to her, he whispered, "But I want to hear it. What did you want to say?"
She shivered, his warm breath tickled her. She looked away, refusing to answer his question. His smile widened at her suddenly obedient behavior. So she’s only like this when embarrassed... ’Guess I should make her blush more.’ He thought to himself, maintaining the fond smile on his face.
"I’m not telling you." She stubbornly said with her arms crossed as she refused to look at him while her blush further intensified.
Seeing his elder brother was happy regardless of what she said, Yang Yulong couldn’t help but sigh in defeat. With how henpecked his older brother was, he knew she would inevitably going to be his sister-in-law.
He figured he might as well support them and make sure she stayed by Yang Feng’s side. Even if she couldn’t contribute much, at the least, she was making him very happy and that was a priceless benefit they can’t get from anyone else.
All of a sudden, the words Yang Feng said clicked in his brain. "Hey! Who are you calling a simple fool?!" He argued, feeling wronged by the nickname. He was trying to fight for his brother’s benefit, yet he insulted him!
"Obviously, he’s referring to you, Yu-ge." Yang Ruqin rolled her eyes as she seized every opportunity to be petty and childish.
"Last time I checked, Xiao Qin, I wasn’t a mirror." Yang Yulong snorted, equally as petty as her. Sometimes he wondered where they got these traits from. Perhaps it was because they had been able to enjoy their childhood being spoiled by their parents while Yang Feng had to shoulder the responsibilities of being the eldest...
"Thank goodness you’re not. I’m sure you would’ve cracked upon seeing the sight of your own reflection." Yang Ruqin resorted, not willing to back down from the argument.
Just as Yang Yulong opened his mouth to argue back, one of the members of the security team knocked on the door. Chen Gaonan informed them that doctors came to check on Zhao Lifei now that she’s finally awake, and since their conversation is already over, Yang Feng gestured for him to let them in.
The door opened and a team of high profile doctors walked in. The heads of neurology and gastroenterology were also present since they were also the ones who operated on her.
Yang Ruqin stiffened in fear as her mouth parted in shock. Included in the group that just entered was a very familiar doctor that could get her in a lot of trouble with Yang Feng.
