Chapter 428 Benefits
"If you marry Emma, Mr. Ong will expose a lot of connections to you as his son-in-law. There will be so many benefits, so just try to handle the marriage for at least 2 years while stretching your arms far enough to rip off the benefits of the Union.
Then when you are tired and satisfied, you can call it quits, or make Emma divorce you.
In the long run, this is something we can always plan and work out together."
"Really? You will allow me to divorce her? Will Dad agree?" Hearing his mother give her support, Zhang Mingyu felt it was too good to be true.
But lest he forgets who arranged the marriage in the first place, he had to do a proper research and arrangement, hence he had to ask of his father's opinion.
Smiling to herself, Shi Wenqian replied. "Your father wouldn't bother as long he has managed to achieve his dreams or receiving Mr. Ong's allegiance and support for his political dreams."
"Does it mean I will be free to marry whomever I want?" Asking that, Zhang Mingyu tapped his fingers on his kneecap while waiting for her response.
"It can be possible, only if she brings us some benefits. Take a look at how far Zhang Group had gone, and will continue to grow even with the Ong family support and other alies.
Do you think we can welcome just anyone into our family? If you are falling in love, make sure there is something greater attached to the relationship more than love.
Make sure you don't ever fall for a girl from an ordinary background. Just remember that the next woman you might get married to after Emma Ong, can not come from a family background less than the Ongs.
You are the heir to a million dollar empire, and the next CEO of Zhang Corp. Only things worth your hierarchy should come to you, and only that should you be interested in."
Patting his shoulder, she added, "Keep that in mind."
As long as Shi Wenqian was concerned, she was living to rip off the benefits she could get from others.
Finding out that it was easier to use people to enrich herself in all areas of her life, she decided to be doing that without batting an eye.
And now knowing that her son had another woman who probably is just an ordinary girl, she would do everything to talk him out of making any mistake that will ruin his path.
Seeing how he had never mentioned about her, Shi Wenqian was sure that she was just a play thing still, she could not keep her eyes off them especially now that her son was about to get married.
She could not afford for anything to go wrong at the odd hour.
After talking some senses into Zhang Mingyu, she reminded him to come down for dinner before leaving his room.
Somehow, his mother's words were able to pull his thoughts back together. Before, he didn't have any appetite, but now, he was ready to enjoy a bountiful meal.
At the dinner table, a smile spread across Shi Wenqian's face as she watched her son eat without worries.
'It's a relief that he still has his eyes in the future.'
Letting out a sigh of relief, she continued to eat heartily.
After dinner, she found Zhang Renshu in his study room where he was sitting and reading a political book.
"The wedding date will be agreed upon by tomorrow. I think it's time for the funds for Zhang Mingyu's wedding to be released."
Since she cane for an important matter, Zhang Renshu paid her a little attention.
Lifting his head from the book in his line of sight, he asked, "Where is the budget? At least give me one if you are coming to ask for money."
"I will bring it with me next time. There is a lot of things to take note of after speaking with Mrs. Ong tomorrow. As we will be meeting some vendors after fixing the date, we will be able to have a budget."
Shi Wenqian replied without sitting as she did not want to give him the opportunity to have a lot of things to complain about.
"How big is the wedding going to be?" Zhang Renshu inquired.
"A very big one. We might hand more than 500 guests. Mrs. Ong doesn't want anything less for her only child's wedding." Shi Wenqian proudly replied.
This was one thing that made her very satisfied, and that was the fact that her son was not marrying from a poor family that would be stingy with this kind of budget.
Being a show-off, Shi Wenqian couldn't wait to be in the limelight because of the wedding of her son that would cost nothing less than a million Dollars.
On the other hand, Zhang Renshu understood the reason the wedding had to be big, but in a different direction.
Because of his ambition, he needed to invite a lot of important guests through his circle of friends, but business and political friends.
If possible, he would want to get even those important people with power that wasn't that close to him, but knowing his limit, he knew when to stop daydreaming.
"Then, I will trust you to handle this big and important event without messing up a bit." Zhang Renshu spoke like he was entrusting an important business task to her.
"I understand, after all, Mingyu is my son, and I only want the best for him." Saying that, a smile appeared on her face.
She was secretly letting him know that she would never mess up with such a matter that had to do with her son.
Throwing his gaze away, he added, "After meeting me Mrs. Ong tomorrow, you can come back to me."
At least he was glad that there was something she was going to take serious without leaving him any room to worry.
*******
~Zhang Corp~
As soon as Zhang Mingyu arrived at the company, he went straight to check Mikayla, and seeing her looking a little busy when the day has not yet started, he relaxed a bit went to his office.
Taking a seat, he picked up his phone and immediately sent a text to her.
'Come to my office as soon as possible.'
That it seemed like his mother had forced his head back on track did not mean that he had forgotten his unfinished business with his girlfriend.
It was very important that he sees her immediately to find out more information from her. For the mean time, he would try to concentrate with work.
After working an hour in the office, he left for a brif meeting with other departmental heads before returning to his office to find Mikayla waiting for him.
"Have you been waiting for long?" He inquired as her went over to his desk to sit.
"No. I only came here when I see that the meeting was over." Mikayla replied as she sat in front of him like there was no problem between them.
Well, that was all thanks to the way her approached her now on a brand new day.
Meeting his gaze, she crossed her arms below her burst, looking unhappy.
"We really have something important to talk about and because of the sensitivity of the matter, we are not going to chat for too long." Taking in a deep breath, he asked, "Are you pregnant?"
"Did you think I would say something I wasn't sure of to you? Mingyu, you are really beginning to show what you truly think of me just because I made a mistake yesterday."
Saying that, Mikayla threw her face away as she was especially annoyed with his new attitude.
Choosing to ignore her words, Zhang Mingyu probed further in a low tone. "How did you know? Did you go to the hospital?"
Hearing his questions, she scoffed. He didn't trust her, and she understood.
"I haven't gotten any test yet, but I know I'm definitely pregnant because of my missed period and the way I have been feeling uncomfortable lately."
"You haven't even checked and you are so sure. Do you really want to be pregnant that much?" Zhang Mingyu confronted in annoyance.
He thought that she would be meeting him with some piece of evidence in her hand, but where she was coming to a conclusion from her assumptions.
Unfolding her hands, Mikayla stopped herself from glaring at him because of his doubts, and this made her want to think twice about her rash actions the previous day.
It was very obvious that he was still angry with her, but she wasn't happy with him either.
After a moment of silence, Zhang Mingyu shut his eyes to calm down a bit, and the next second his eyes snapped open, he instructed.
"Take a pregnancy test after work and let me know the results, latest tomorrow."
"Fine, I will." Uttering those words, Mikayla stood up and left his office in annoyance.
