Chapter 39 Compromise
"What's wrong with her staying here, she is only your domestic helper? Or are you overthinking things?" Chuanli probed.
'Was he overthinking things?' Mr. Fang felt like wiping that smirk off his face with a car wiper.
"Are you dumb or something? Miss Zhang is my student, how can I let her live in my house and work for me? That is ridiculous!"
Mr. Fang was thinking of the kind of trouble that will bring him. Had it been Zhang Liling had graduated already, he would have considered it. But given how she was yet to take her final exams he wouldn't do anything that will question his reputation.
Chuanli knew what he was thinking about and advised eagerly, "It doesn't matter, you only have to protect this information till she graduates. If the information happens to leak by that time, then it wouldn't be an issue."
In summary, Chuanli was saying that Zhang Liling could stay as long as the information was hidden till she graduated. As for how the information would remain hidden, that will be left for Mr. Fang to settle with his people.
Mr. Fang remained silent after he finished speaking, leaving Chuanli and Bolin to try and guess what he was thinking about.
Thinking that he was considering what he said, Chuanli went on to add, "Since she came here on her own, she would not hesitate to willingly help in my research, or don't you want to find a solution to your problem?"
Mr. Fang heard that and finally shifted his gaze to him. He was thinking of investigating Zhang Liling even if she might end up staying at his place. He wanted to know the circumstances surrounding her in the Zhang family.
Still, he wanted to stay away from Zhang Liling and remain ignorant about her family situation, he didn't want to get himself involved with her because once he became entangled, he wouldn't be able to continue playing ignorant.
At last, he mentioned that Zhang Liling would be investigated first before he would let her continue to stay at his place.
"What's the need to investigate her when you can directly ask her what you want?" Chuanli asked with a frown.
That would waste time and resources to investigate Zhang Liling when he could easily question her since she was already at his place.
"What makes you think she is trustworthy?" Mr. Fang snorted.
With the way Zhang Liling was able to come into his house, he didn't trust that she wouldn't lie to him if he questioned her directly.
"What are you afraid of, you just need to exercise your authority, and she will spill the truth," Chuanli replied. He didn't think it would be difficult to get Zhang Liling to tell the truth about her background given how strict he was.
"Don't underestimate her. Bolin, call her in first," Mr. Fang said, shifting his gaze to his personal assistant.
'Someone that wasn't afraid of my cold stance and had the guts to infiltrate my privacy without fear, how could she be trusted?'
Bolin took his order and left to go find Zhang Liling who was now standing put at the foot of the stairs while holding the rail.
"Miss Zhang come with me Mr. Fang is asking for your presence," Bolin announced with a calm gaze immediately he saw her standing there with a huge frown on his face.
His tone sounded with a bit of urgency.
Zhang Liling's heartbeat doubled by a few paces when she heard that Mr. Fang wanted to see her. She was afraid as her attitude under the current circumstance changed.
She was afraid to know his verdict, and at the same time, she just wanted to know so she could start thinking of her next plans.
"Mr. Bolin, can I ask why Mr. Fang is looking for me? Is he going to let me stay here?" Zhang Liling ended up asking Bolin that question before following him up the stairs.'
"You are already following me. You will find the answer to your question soon." Bolin replied without pausing in his steps.
There was no way he would tell her that Mr. Fang was considering her presence at his place, not after all he has gone through. Also, he wasn't authorized to answer her, and it would only be right to keep her in suspense.
Zhang Liling could only give up prying for answers and follow him.
"Bingwen, you should not make any mistake due to anger. I know she violated a few rules, but I trust you would be able to look past it and see the greater picture."
Chuanli was uncertain of Mr. Fang's temper once Zhang Liling stepped in, so he started to quench any signs of anger before it could come up.
He was afraid that he would be blinded by anger and give up the short road ahead to carry out the research, by asking Zhang Liling to leave at last.
Mr. Fang grunted. "That girl looks like trouble itself," he said in a muffled voice.
It looks like he was also afraid of bringing trouble into his den.
If Chuanli wasn't afraid of angering him, he would have gone ahead to tease him, on the fact that he was afraid he wouldn't be able to handle Zhang Liling.
With what has gone on today, there was no way he would ignore the warning signs, therefore he just stayed put and chuckled hard in his head.
Mr. Fang felt he was being laughed at and immediately shot a dangerous gaze at Chuanli, only to see the latter completely devoid of any expression of positive emotion and relaxed.
The next minute, Bolin walked in with Zhang Liling who was too scared to raise her head.
Closing the door behind them, Bolin turned to glance at her before gesturing for her to move towards Mr. Fang's desk.
"Miss Zhang, please."
Zhang Liling caught his hand gesture from her peripheral view and followed it while fiddling with her fingers in front of her.
When she had stepped into the study, she had felt the dangerous silence, and the temperature drop. She couldn't find any reason to remain doubtful that Mr. Fang had something to do with it.
