Chapter 7: Photographic Memory? How a Top Student Is Made!

Su Bai discovered that he could read ten lines at a glance, with the content seemingly leaping directly into his mind.

In no time, he had completely absorbed all the knowledge from the book in his hands.

“Wow, so this must be the superpower the system gave me!” Su Bai thought, excitedly picking up another book to continue reading.

After all, the original owner of his body had studied abroad, where the curriculum differed significantly from that in China.

As for Su Bai, though he had crossed into this world, his memory of high school material was fuzzy at best.

With the system granting him such an extraordinary ability, it was only natural for him to make the most of it.

Li Meng, observing Su Bai from the teacher’s desk, noticed his actions but chose not to intervene.

As a transfer student from overseas, Su Bai’s foundation might genuinely be weaker than his peers.

It seems I would need to devote extra attention to him in the future.

By the time the first class ended, Su Bai had already read through every book in his bag and mastered their contents entirely.

Even Su Bai himself was amazed by his rapid learning speed.

“Su Bai, come to the office with me for a moment,” Li Meng said after packing up her materials. She didn’t leave the classroom immediately but instead called Su Bai over.

The other students turned to look, curious about why Su Bai was being summoned again.

Su Bai was equally puzzled—he hadn’t done anything out of the ordinary apart from flipping through his books.

“What happened to Su Bai? Why is he being called to the office again?” Huang Zhitao wondered aloud as she watched him leave with Li Meng.

Hearing this, Fang Yifan rushed over. Ever since falling for Huang Zhitao at first sight, he couldn’t bear the thought of her showing interest in another boy.

It didn’t take much for him to realise that she might have a slight crush on Su Bai.

If he had noticed, surely others had as well.

Feeling it was time to act, Fang Yifan decided to speak up and change her mind.

“Taotao, you might not know this, but I saw everything during class,” he began.

“Su Bai didn’t really pay attention. He just flipped through all his books at lightning speed.”

“I’d bet anything he couldn’t follow along. The way he turned those pages—it was impossible to comprehend anything at that pace.”

“Looks like I’m no longer the school’s lowest-ranked student. Someone has finally come to take my place!”

Fang Yifan and Ji Yangyang had long been the academic underachievers of Spring Breeze High.

Now, with Su Bai in the picture, Fang Yifan felt hopeful about moving up to second-to-last place.

Though still near the bottom, it would be an improvement nonetheless.

“You’re really comparing yourself to Su Bai? He studied abroad, so of course, he’s not familiar with our curriculum,” Huang Zhitao retorted.

“But I believe he’ll catch up quickly. When that happens, you’ll still be at the bottom.”

Huang Zhitao refused to let anyone belittle her idol.

Although she had only met Su Bai a few times, she already considered him her dream guy.

“She’s right, Yifan. Stop boasting,” Qiao Yingzi chimed in.

“Su Bai is staying at my house. Do you think my mum won’t tutor him? Your position as last place is secure,” she added confidently.

Though she suspected Su Bai might struggle with the material, Qiao Yingzi had already decided to tutor him herself after school every day.

As Spring Breeze High’s top student, she was confident she could help him succeed.

And if she couldn’t, her mum surely could.

So, Fang Yifan’s spot as the last-ranked student was in no danger.

Feeling disgruntled, Fang Yifan muttered, “Just wait and see. The next exam isn’t far away. Let’s see who ends up at the bottom.”

With that, he returned to his seat.

Meanwhile, Su Bai followed Li Meng to her office.

He hadn’t expected to visit the office twice on his first day at Spring Breeze High.

“Su Bai, are you finding it difficult to follow my lectures?” Li Meng asked with concern as she set down her materials.

“Don’t worry, teacher. I’m keeping up just fine,” Su Bai assured her.

He wasn’t exaggerating—in fact, thanks to the system’s special ability, he had not only caught up but had also surpassed his peers in certain areas.

However, Li Meng interpreted his response as a display of pride.

As a teacher, she understood that Su Bai, having just returned from overseas, might struggle with the differences between curricula.

“Su Bai, as your teacher, I understand that adapting to a new environment can be challenging. But don’t worry—I’m here to help. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask,” Li Meng said warmly.

“Thank you, teacher. I’ll be sure to ask if I need help,” Su Bai replied, deciding not to elaborate further.

“Good. Now head back to class and make sure to stay focused during lessons,” Li Meng instructed.

“Understood, Teacher Li. I’ll head back now.”

’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’

When Su Bai returned to the classroom, Qiao Yingzi and Huang Zhitao immediately crowded around him, eager to know what Li Meng had said.

“It’s nothing. She just reminded me to focus on my studies and let her know if I need help,” Su Bai explained.

Turning to Fang Yifan, Qiao Yingzi quipped, “See? It’s not what you think. Stop being jealous of Su Bai.”

“Jealous? Me? Of him?” Fang Yifan sputtered.

“Of course. You’re jealous because he’s more handsome than you,” Huang Zhitao teased, hitting Fang Yifan where it hurt.

Speechless, Fang Yifan had no comeback.

Su Bai, however, paid no mind to the banter. He had more pressing matters to attend to.

“Yingzi, do you have any textbooks from Years 1 and 2?”

Although Su Bai had already absorbed all the Year 3 material, he realised he needed to revisit the content from the earlier grades to fill in any gaps.

To Qiao Yingzi, his request sounded like a plea for help.

“Wait a second,” she said, rummaging through her desk.

As a Year 3 student, her desk was piled high with books, including some from previous years that she occasionally used for review.

Seeing Qiao Yingzi search for books, Huang Zhitao joined in, retrieving some of her own materials.

In no time, Su Bai’s desk was stacked with Year 1 and 2 textbooks.

“Su Bai, if you don’t understand something, just ask me. I’m a top student, and there’s nothing I can’t teach,” Qiao Yingzi declared confidently.

As both her houseguest and childhood friend, Su Bai had her full support.

“I’m not as brilliant as Yingzi, but I can help too. Just let me know,” Huang Zhitao offered.

“Thanks, both of you. I’ll be sure to ask if I need help,” Su Bai said gratefully.
