Chapter 131 0131. Deadnight Legion
"Why are we still waiting?"
Grant grumbled in displeasure. After my little threat, everyone had been waiting for other players to come around and open the door together.
But their patience was running thick due to the time ticking down so fast. It's been 20 hours since the start of the game and only 4 hours remained before the event would be over.
"Hey, I say it's time we open the door."
Baton, the fighter of the group said out loud.
"Of course, it's the numb-heads whose patience is as thin as their nonexistent hair."
Angelina said sarcastically, looking at the two patches of forehead missing a large amount of hair.
"Hey, I have told you it's a design, I am not actually bald there."
Baton shouted, and Angelina rolled her eyes without replying, making baton even more indignant.
"I see some players."
Yurika, the group's archer said as she looked towards the other side of the lava river a bit far away from where they had come.
Everyone looked in the direction, not many people could make out the players but they could definitely see the giant rock bridge crumbling into the river, indicating that whoever the players were, they were going through the same thing that these guys had gone through.
"It's the same drill, huh."
Grant scratched his chin as he felt a bit relieved, knowing that they weren't the only ones who had suffered.
"It's Able and a few others."
Yurika said as she confirmed the faces of the new arrivals on the other side. Most of them managed to cross the bridge, but some of them just fell into the lava due to all the chaos.
"Heh, there's Crestfallen in there too."
I couldn't help but let out a chuckle as I said that. I was leaning on one side of the wall looking towards all the directions to check for the players that were closing in on the gates.
As soon as the name 'Crestfallen' came out of my mouth, the atmosphere turned gloomy. Of course, it wouldn't have been like this if they had died back there, as they were used to Crestfallen's attitude of sacrificing his team to put himself ahead of others.
But since I saved them, they all basically got a second chance and probably one of the top competitors in the event right now. Realising that they were going to just throw away all their efforts for a leader that could abandon them anytime he feels like just left a sour taste in their mouth.
"That son of a bitch!"
Of course, not everyone here was very polite or refined with their words, as Grant let out a curse. He couldn't see Crestfallen with his own eyes because of his nonexistent insight stat, but he sure as hell felt displeasure run down to his bones when he heard his name.
"Yo, let's not spoil the mood by taking that jerk's name. Forget about him."
Baton said, even though his own face was twisted in disgust.
After that, nobody gave another look towards the door where their supposed leader was at.
"Oh look, the other teams are coming too."
It didn't take some awesome eye powers to know when a group of players were coming, as a huge crumbling noise and the fall of one of the rock bridges notified everyone of their arrivals.
The weird thing was, even after two or more teams came around, not one of the teams went inside.
"Alright, let's try opening that door."
I said, as I went ahead and patted Baton's shoulder.
"What?"
"Go and open that door?"
"You want me to break my arms again?"
Baton seemed to have gained some PTSD from the rock, and was hesitant about opening the door himself, even though he was one of the most impatient people in the whole group.
"What? You don't want to? Alright, I'll do it."
I said as I started walking towards the door, and Baton stopped me, his expression turning fowl.
He cracked his neck and stretched his arms a bit before walking in front of the door.
—-Whoooooo!
He let out a strong breath before pushing the giant door with both of his arms.
—-Creak! Crack!
Eerie noises started coming out of the doors, as it started to budge.
—-Tak!
After opening about an inch of the door, the door got stuck. No matter how red Baton's face turned or how much effort he put in, the door didn't budge.
"Come, Grant. Let's help him."
The guy with the giant hammer from earlier told Grant as both him and Grant went ahead and pushed each side of the door, helping Baton.
"You know, you could have done that before."
Baton said as his cheeks were puffed out due, his face as red as a tomato.
—-Creak! Clang!
—-Tang!
As soon as the door opened about a foot wide, it started to open up by itself. Some sounds and noises like that of locks and metal clanging were heard as the wide door opened the way for what was inside.
—-Click! Clang!
The sounds didn't subside though, as they ran towards all the directions.
"What's happening?"
Grant asked in confusion.
"Well, nothing much."
I said, avoiding eye contact with the others. They all stared at me like they would eat me up.
"What just happened?"
"Oh, we might have just unlocked the doors for everyone."
I said as I started walking inside.
Although I said 'might', I was 100% about it. I could see all the doors interconnected with each other. So this was the whole point of gathering everyone together. As soon as one of the gates is opened, all the other gates which are connected to each other will use the inertia generated by that gate to open on their own.
Of course, there wasn't just inertia in play here, as I could feel mana and runes following through everyone.
The people who had opened the gate felt a bit indignant that their powers were abused and used for everyone, but there wasn't much that they could do about it.
"Let's go inside, or do you want to fail after being the first one to open the gates?"
I said as I kept walking and everyone hurriedly followed after me.
Behind the huge doors was a huge stone halfway. It had giant pillars made out of stone and the whole hallway was constructed by stones the size of an average human.
There were bones and foul smell spread around almost everywhere.
"Why is it empty? Wasn't there a legion of millions awaiting us?"
Baton laughed out loud. Although the whole space was large and packed, there were torches burning on every pillar giving enough light to see through the end of the hallway, which felt like it was almost a mile away.
"Oi, look there."
Grant said in a slow voice.
Everyone looked around, and to our surprise, everywhere besides us were open doors, from which groups after groups of players came from.
"How the fuck are the doors so close?"
Baton shouted in shock.
"It's a world where magic exists, you find this shocking?"
Angelina rolled her eyes as she told the group to talk in a low voice.
There were a total of 20 doors, and from almost all of them, at least 20 people came in. Of course, there were exceptions, like our door which only had about a dozen people.
But the most eerie door was obviously the one from which Iqol came from. There was only him walking out of that door.
On both of our sides, was a team led by Abel and the other side was a team led by Elexis.
Elexis seems to have joined in with other players as well instead of just taking around all the Japanese players. Beside those were teams led by Lynch, Malaika, Dawring, and some other players who I didn't recognise.
"Look who's surprised."
Angelina said with a nasty smile as she looked at Crestfallen. He was in Abel's team, and he couldn't believe that most of his guild-mates had survived after he left them in front of that damned serpent.
When he saw Shura in the group, he could somewhat guess what had happened and his surprise soon died down as he smiled.
[Welcome to the boss room, 'Deadnight Legion'.]
As soon as the notification came, the whole boss room lit up, leaving behind any shred of darkness that was present in the room. And now, people could clearly see the end of the boss room.
There was a gigantic throne at the end of the boss room, and someone was sitting on that throne wearing a black, tattered robe that hid its whole body and face.
[Congratulations to all the players! You have cleared the first event!]
[The second event will begin immediately!]
[The list of players with top Dungeon Points from the first event is:
Shura: 193,302
Iqol: 96,009
Abel: 46,551
Elexis: 45,992
Malaika: 43,438
….
….]
"What?"
"Huh?"
The first event ended?
Just like me, it seemed like everyone else was surprised too.
Nobody had predicted this development.
***
|| Welcome to the second event of MIT!
The number of people who made it through to the second event have made it to this round is actually way lower than the amount predicted formerly, as such, some of the top eliminated players will be brought back into the event, and all the other players will have their health and cooldowns fully restored.
The second event of the MIT is the boss raid of 'Deadnight Legion'!
The event will end in 24 hours, just like earlier. All the players will be logged out right now and will continue the event tomorrow after a break! ||
The abrupt announcement from Sam brought everyone back to their senses. The players were flabbergasted at what was happening, but they soon realised the situation they were in. The first event was supposed to end as soon as someone opened the door and entered through it, and the second event was chained with the first event.
After checking the notifications, all the players logged out, one by one coming out of their assigned capsules.
"'WOOAHHHH!'"
The audience started cheering as soon as they saw all the players come out.
There had been a lot of unexpected situations in the first events, such as the rise of some unknown players, some unexpected betrayals and foul plays by players and some of the top rankers over performing.
The buzz that everything had created around the world was something otherworldly.
"Man, I feel refreshed."
Instead of feeling tired, Flynn was feeling refreshed as he took in a huge breadth and walked out of the stadium, slowly waving his hands to the people cheering for him. These top end gaming capsules were really something.
