Chapter 40: Sailing through the Waters ? ? ?

The ship that Xin boarded was a grand vessel, its sails billowing with the wind as it glided across the calm, glistening sea.

The ship's wooden exterior was weathered by the salty air, bearing the marks of countless voyages. A figurehead of a fierce sea serpent adorned the bow, its eyes seemingly watching over the crew.

Come to think of it . . . Xin recalled the discussions he had read on the forums about the infamous Pirates. According to the net, these pirates were notorious for never allowing players on their ships. Anyone who dared to approach would be swiftly fought off, making players think twice about getting too close.

The Pirates' ship was a formidable sight, large and imposing, armed with cannons that made it a force to be reckoned with. No ordinary boat stood a chance against it, and players knew better than to attempt any confrontation against combatant NPCs like the pirates.

Because of this, players often sought the services of fishermen who operated smaller, less intimidating boats. These boats were their only safe option for traveling across the sea, as they had no desire to draw the attention of the fearsome Raiders.

As Xin considered the Reef Raiders' patrols near their territory, an idea struck him. Perhaps they could destroy those smaller boats that the Raiders were using to patrol the waters. By doing so, they might create an opportunity to get closer to their hideout without drawing their attention.

With this plan in mind, Xin felt a glimmer of hope that they could find a way to approach the Reef Raiders' hideout safely. He realized that strategy and timing would be crucial in this endeavor, and he was determined to be smart about their approach.

On the deck, Xin saw the crew members working diligently, hoisting sails, steering the ship, and maintaining the rigging. They were a diverse group of creatures, each with their unique appearance and attire, proudly wearing their pirate badges and symbols.

The sea stretched endlessly before them, its surface reflecting the golden hues of the setting sun. The water was smooth and tranquil, with gentle ripples occasionally dancing in the ship's wake. The horizon met the sky in a seamless blend of blue and orange, filling Xin with a sense of awe and wonder.

As the ship sailed further from the shore, the coastline disappeared from view, leaving only an expanse of deep blue water all around. The vastness of the sea was both breathtaking and humbling, making Xin feel like a tiny speck amidst its boundless beauty.

As the night fell, the ship's lanterns illuminated the deck, casting a warm glow across the crew's faces. The stars above twinkled brightly, forming constellations that Xin had never seen before. The moon, a brilliant silver orb, bathed the sea in a soft, shimmering light.

The gentle rocking of the ship and the soothing sound of waves lapping against its hull created a peaceful ambiance.

Xin found himself captivated by the serenity of the sea, feeling a sense of unity with nature and its vast mysteries. It was his first time traveling by sea –– on a pirate ship at that!

Gradually, Xin was enjoying the game. A world that he thought he could only experience in fantasy was now right before his eyes.

Throughout the journey, Xin couldn't help but admire the skilled navigation of Captain Scarlet O'Malley. Her commanding presence and expertise in sailing filled him with confidence, knowing he was in capable hands –– if only she stopped with the flirtatious wink every few seconds.

As the ship sailed closer to the location of the Reef Raiders' hideout, the crew's excitement and anticipation grew palpable.

It seemed like they wanted a fight more than anything else.

The vessel finally arrived at a coral beach about ten miles away from Seagull's Nest.

Drasta's words about the creature echoed in Xin's mind. She had mentioned that the creature would approach the corals on cloudless nights. Intrigued, Xin observed the area, searching for any signs of the elusive creature.

Suddenly, a looming shadow emerged from the depths of the sea. Xin's eyes widened as he witnessed the majestic sight before him. The creature didn't seem to mind the presence of the boat, though it appeared to be aware of their presence.

The enormous being swirled gracefully in the water, opening its large mouth to feed on a bright myriad of krill.

Xin marveled at the creature's size and age. Its thick, matte skin was adorned with barnacles, shells, and colorful spiral tattoos, adding to its awe-inspiring appearance.

"It's a wingless Ancient White Dragon without fly speed," Captain Scarlet's voice sounded beside him, and Xin knew she had joined him to witness this incredible sight.

"The creature won't attack unless we attack it first," Captain Scarlet warned. "It doesn't communicate with other creatures, even if it's capable of doing so. It's best to avoid it."

Xin didn't even consider confronting such a powerful beast. The combination of being ancient and a dragon spelled trouble for him.

Using a special item called a [Monocle], Xin examined the Ancient White Dragon's stats and realized that it was far too strong for him to defeat. He also doubted that Captain Scarlet and her whole crew could take it down.

"What should we do?" Captain Scarlet asked. "If you want to fight it, I'll assist you."

Shaking his head, Xin declined the offer. "No, let's leave it be."

He felt disappointed about the quest [Let's Go Fishing], but it wasn't worth risking his life for. There was no oil to be found in that beast, and the only thing he might gain from it was the death penalty in the end.

It was wiser to prioritize his safety and move on to other quests.
