Chapter 385: Cycle Lock (Request for Monthly Passes)
Li Yao turned around and said calmly, “What’s this? We had an agreement. I kill the magician, and I get to open this door for half an hour. Are you going back on your word now?”
The two Dwarf Masters were silent. Although they didn’t speak, their reluctance to let Li Yao open the door was obvious. The temptation of the door’s information was too great. Such an opportunity was hard to come by; even amongst kin and brothers, they would fight over it.
As for the other two goblins, they thought even less of Li Yao. They did not see Li Yao’s earlier assistance as him saving them, but rather him allying with them because he couldn’t handle the magician on his own.
Otherwise, why would he kick the magician down towards them, almost getting them killed? Why didn’t he just kill the magician on his own? Plus, they barely survived the fight and even had to use their life-saving measures, all while Li Yao just watched. They were extremely irritated.
Focusing on their benefits, they seemed to forget that without Li Yao, they would’ve been entrapped and killed by the fascination spell. Even the two dwarfs, while feeling ashamed, did not want to let Li Yao open the door first either.
One of the goblin puppet masters repairing a puppet said, “Look mate, we agreed to let you try opening the door first if you killed the magician. But you didn’t. So naturally, we aren’t breaking any promises, are we?”
Li Yao smiled and replied, “I knew you would say that.”
Click, click, click…
The Death God 4000 emerged from the channel and threw the body of the Goblin Warlock in front of everyone.
“What do you have to say now? Is there any reason the master can’t conquer it?” War Horizon shouted.
“It’s not your place to speak.” Everyone shivered involuntarily at the sight of the tragically dead Goblin Warlock. But the goblin who had spoken earlier still said, “Who’s to say that you didn’t just find any goblin to replace him?”
“Well, it seems you genuinely don’t want to admit it. Then let’s settle it with a fight.” The puppet controlled by Li Yao suddenly grabbed the goblin’s puppet, which was still under repair, and threw it violently.
Crash…
The large puppet hit another goblin’s puppet, which was also being repaired, fiercely. The intense collision echoed as the two puppets collapsed onto the ground.
“You…” Enraged, the goblin started to protest, but then he felt himself being lifted off the ground.
Li Yao controlled the puppet to grab the goblin and said slowly, “Since you don’t want to talk it out, we’ll go by strength. I can kill a magician, killing you all will be a piece of cake.”
While speaking, Li Yao threw the goblin into the air and savagely swung the bloody great sword down with his other mechanical arm.
The goblin master was a level 17 beginner boss, but his strength lay mainly in his puppets. Without his puppet, he only had a large quantity of health and was nothing more than a punching bag.
With just one non-skilled swing, the goblin boss’s health was reduced by a third.
A big wound appeared on the goblin’s small body and was still bleeding. He rolled onto another goblin that was trying its best to heal their beast.
The players responsible for protecting the injured goblin got anxious and approached Li Yao aggressively. They were furious because if the one they protected died, their punishment would be even more severe.
“Don’t fight.” The goblin’s sharp voice pierced everyone’s eardrums. He stopped the players, ignored his bleeding wound, barely managed a smile, and said to Li Yao walking towards them with the bloody great sword, “Mate, misunderstanding. It was all just a joke, wasn’t it?”
“Yes, yes, a joke, just a joke,” the goblin, whose puppet had been smashed, also managed to force out a smile.
They were truly terrified, and they also recognized that the puppet Li Yao used was two grades higher than theirs. What could a person who uses a golden puppet possibly be? They quickly backed down.
Even during their peak, they found it an impossible task to destroy a golden puppet, let alone now when their beasts and puppets were in such a damaged state and didn’t have any ultimate firepower.
Only then did they realize that Li Yao indeed was a ruthless character, and that he wasn’t kind-hearted when he saved them earlier.
Seeing the three goblins reach into their backpacks, Li Yao instead withdrew his weapon and said, “I was also joking. I just wanted to see how sturdy the goblin’s puppet was. I admit I was a bit muddleheaded when I attacked you. I hope you won’t hold it against me.”
The three goblins visibly breathed a sigh of relief, pulled their hands out of their backpacks, and laughingly replied, “Oh no, not at all. A joke is a joke. Let’s leave it in the past.”
“Well said,” Li Yao pointed at the door and said, “About this door…”
“Goblins always keep their promises. Since we agreed, we won’t go back on our word. You can try unlocking it for half an hour.”
Li Yao nodded and looked towards the two dwarfs.
The two dwarfs did not know Li Yao but they recognized the golden puppet. Although still reluctant, they agreed because Li Yao was valued by the leader, and it was better to have him start than a goblin, as they were of the same race.
“Then I won’t hold back,” Li Yao said and walked towards the Starry Gate, stretching out his hand. As Li Yao said these words, a control panel appeared before his eyes.
The rest looked on unwillingly and sighed. There was no other choice but to accept this outcome.
Actually, they didn’t believe that anyone could unlock the door’s mystery lock within half an hour. However, their turns to try to unlock it were in rotation and the first to start would also be the first to begin the second round, thus having a considerable advantage.
Of course, unlocking also required overall strength and they hadn’t lost faith. They prepared themselves for the long haul since the mystery lock’s type was diverse, testing various aspects. Their luck might just be on their side, so they were simply disappointed.
However, if they could see Li Yao’s unlock progress, they would definitely regret their decision.
The lock also connected six nodes and consisted of five stages, four of which tested their obscure knowledge about the Titans. The fifth was a test of combat will, where the Titans simulated another Li Yao and asked him to kill his opponent within five minutes.
If he failed, he would need to re-challenge, but would only have four minutes. In other words, only five chances were available for the last node, and for the fifth chance, only one minute was left.
If he couldn’t kill his opponent, the unlock would fail. The other nodes connected would also be rearranged, and then the mystery lock would recombine, presenting a new puzzle or challenge, and the unlock would start again.
This type of lock was known as a cyclic lock and was a tough mystery lock. Seeing the final challenge, Li Yao knew that it would take years for the masters to open this door. Their combat will was too weak. To them, this door was a Door of Despair…
