Chapter 317: Making Friends
Chapter 317: Making Friends
“Idol, have you figured out why they’re not attacking them?” the Little Pet Elf nervously asked. “What if they steal the first kill?”
Li Yao calmly continued dealing damage as he replied, “Now, the boss’s health has dropped below 20%. Even if they deliver the final blow, the announcement for the first kill will still be credited to us.”
“Oh, I see,” the Little Pet Elf said, coming to a realization.
In the mechanics of this ancient game, if two or more teams are fighting over a boss, the team that deals the most damage is credited with the first kill.
Moreover, it’s rare for two teams in this ancient game to engage a boss when it has a lot of health. This is due to the game mechanics; as the number of players increases, the boss’s health soars in response.
The consequence of this is usually a team wipe. After all, the bosses in this ancient game are incredibly tough.
Even a team coordinated with Gold Coin finds killing a boss to be a difficult task, let alone two opposing teams working together. The result of such a strategy usually ends in them being wiped out by the boss.
The game has been running for some time now, andthis kind of thing happened often in the beginning, although less so now.
It’s not that players don’t steal boss kills. They use the game’s mechanics to their advantage; as long as a team deals damage that breaches the boss’s defenses, they’re eligible to loot one piece of the boss’s dropped equipment.
If the team that secured the first kill chooses not to loot, the team that touched the boss next will be eligible for looting after ten minutes.
If this team also chooses not to loot, everyone can loot the items after another five minutes.
Using this mechanic, the common practice for stealing a boss kill is to attack the boss when it’s about to die, securing the second looting right and main loot priority. They then wipe the team who got the first kill and is mostly worn out by the boss. This way, they can naturally earn all the spoils of war.
Seeing the two rogues, Li Yao was sure this was a small ten-person group. He guessed they had similar intentions, but he didn’t care. They were far too inexperienced to steal anything from him.
“Be careful, one of the rogues has locked onto you,” Li Yao warned, aware that a rogue had emerged from behind a Stone Column. The rogue’s target was clearly the healer, Talon No Trace.
The other rogue didn’t dare to get close to the boss, but a heavy crossbow appeared in his hand, clearly aiming to earn loot rights.
As the boss’s health decreased, Talon No Trace grew increasingly nervous.
When the boss’s health was less than 1% remaining, he quietly set an explosive totem at his feet.
Meanwhile, eight players were rapidly rushing over from a distance, their excited grins evident as they believed they’d manage to snatch an advantage.
Thump…
The rogue released his shot out of Li Yao’s line of sight, then disappeared back into stealth. Assuming he was well-hidden, he activated his sprint and ran toward the dying boss.
“I… am finally free…”
In the eyes of the berserk Tina, there was no sadness, only endless relief and lingering affection for something.
Li Yao halted his attack and calmly said to the rogue who had stealthily approached Tina: “Nice move. Your stealth wasn’t affected by Float Snow, and your timing was spot on. But sadly.”
The stealthy rogue, Shadow of Bright, smirked secretly. Suddenly he saw Li Yao speaking toward him and froze. Then he stared at Li Yao in confusion.
“Hey dimwit, quit gawking. I’m talking about you.” Li Yao waved at him. “You clearly lack intelligence. Didn’t you ever wonder why we would move back when the boss is about to die?”
Boom…
Before Li Yao finished speaking, an explosion erupted from Tina’s beleaguered body.
Death Explosion!
The rogue didn’t understand what’s happening and was killed instantly, collapsing to the ground with a dejected expression.
Thump…
The explosive totem released a burst of flames; the second rogue’s figure appeared behind Talon No Trace and stunned him.
The rogue ignored the damage from the explosive totem and quickly brandished his dagger again.
Pshh…
A Steel Arrow pierced his throat, causing his actions to stop abruptly. He fell to the ground, lifeless.
“You small fries thinking you can steal a boss kill, really cracks me up.” Li Yao put away his Long Bow and turned around leisurely. With a smirk, he looked at the approaching members of the Bright Guild. “I’m guessing you came to provide me with some entertainment while I’m grinding mobs?”
At the same time, a colorful screen flickered.
“System: Team leader Prairie Fire and team members Talon No Trace and Little Pet Elf have defeated the level 17 boss Berzerk Tina, honor will be remembered forever. Reputation for this achievement has been awarded to all races in your faction: 450.”
“Yay! I got a first kill too, hahaha!” The Little Pet Elf was thrilled.
The few team members halted, having seen the announcement and heard Li Yao’s words; they exchanged looks, unsure of what to do next.
Their plan was simple; one rogue loots the first piece of equipment, the other rogue eliminates the healer. Then they swarm and kill Li Yao, who would be left all alone, hence monopolizing the boss loot.
This plan had been successful several times before and never failed. They didn’t expect it to capsize in a ditch here.
Talon No Trace was nonchalantly casting spells to revive Little Pet Elf.
Li Yao walked over to where the boss had fallen, several pieces of equipment lay on the ground. He picked up a One-handed Sword and waved it around, “So, are you chickening out already?”
“You’re really tough, let us rescue our people, and we will leave immediately, treat this as a misunderstanding. ” The leading Mage, Bright Five Immortals said coldly. They all knew of Li Yao, having failed this ambush, he didn’t dare to fight anymore.
Li Yao casually tossed the One-handed Sword on the ground and said, “You guys, where’s your professional ethic? How can you give up on a great heist like this? Truly disappointing. How about this, I won’t loot the equipment and you can continue trying to kill me, how does that sound?”
“Prairie Fire, as I’ve said, this is a misunderstanding, our subordinates were reckless and didn’t recognize your reputation. We will leave right after we rescue our people, why entangle yourself with this minor misunderstanding?” Bright Five Immortals forced a smile on his face. Faced with three opponents and a Hydra that was almost fully regenerated, he had no will to fight, and neither did his companions.
“Hmm, I’m the type of person who dislikes fighting,” Li Yao gave a dazzling smile, “Please go ahead.”
The few exchanged looks and cautiously started reviving their healer.
The two healers quickly read their spells, and the two rogues were soon revived. They reluctantly retreated into the group.
“Prairie Fire is truly magnanimous indeed. It seems we’ve become fast friends today,” said Bright Five Immortals with a smile.
“Hmm, I love making friends,” Li Yao replied with a bright smile, “It’s great to meet you all today. Allow me to give you an appropriate send-off.”
As he spoke, Li Yao pulled the trigger of the Flame Crossbow.
Thump…
An arrow from the crossbow pierced the Tank Knight’s neck…
