Chapter 331 - Another Work Today Again?
Jackson went back to Ben's hideout after he left his mum's place. That night neither of the five of them slept. They kept monitoring the screens Ben was working on. Even Steve and Evelyn who were expecting good news either from the police or Jackson could not sleep.
They all waited for morning to come thinking that by then they will be some development on finding her whereabouts.
In the morning Catherine who was unaware of what was happening back in Central City woke up feeling very refreshed. She was surprised when she came downstairs and met Jeff helping her dad to set the dining table.
"Did you even sleep at all?" Catherine asked the guy whom she could see had already freshened up and changed into new sets of outfits.
"Why are you asking him such a question?" Mr Qin interjected before Jeff could answer.
"Because you didn't allow him to go to bed early. You insisted he must accompany you to drink...,"
"Hua, why are you always fighting with me because of him? And besides, he never complained so why are you complaining when you are not the one this concerns?" Mr Qin asked staring at his daughter wearing a white shirt and black trousers.
"Because...,"
"Erin, come sit down and let's eat," Jeff said just to disrupt their little argument.
"He is right Hua, come and sit so we can have breakfast because after breakfast he has a lot of work to help me with," Mr Qin said before he pulled out a chair and sat down.
"Another work today again?" Catherine asked sounding upset.
"Because of the work you gave him yesterday his hands sustained a lot of bruised and blisters. These injuries haven't healed and now you want to give him another work?" Catherine asked, her gaze glued on her father wearing a green shirt.
"Dad, if you may know I didn't bring him here to do all kinds of work for you...,"
"Are you trying to tell me that my future son-in-law is not allowed to help me do some of the menial jobs in the house? What is the use of a son-in-law if he can't share his father-in-law's burden?" Mr Qin interrupted her sharply.
"Uncle, of course, I am happy to be of any assistance to you so don't take whatever words she says seriously. She is just worried about me," Jeff said politely. He was so glad to hear Mr Qin call him his son-in-law for the first time.
"Frey...,"
"Let's eat or the food will get cold," Jeff said before she could scold him.
He came here to seek her father's blessings and not to be the source of misunderstanding between father and daughter so he would rather choose for her to get upset with him than see her always quarrel with her father because of him.
They all quietly ate. Catherine who normally talked was too upset to talk and Mr Qin didn't seem to be in the mood to talk either so everywhere was quiet while they ate.
They all rested for about fifteen minutes after their meal. Mr Qin initiated a conversation afterwards.
"Jeffrey, let's go to the hall so I can show you the work I have for you. We need to get the work done as soon as possible so the students can resume classes the next," Mr Qin said as he stood up from the couch.
"Ok, uncle," Jeff said as he stood up too. He didn't have the confidence to stare at Catherine since he knew that she must still be angry at him.
After they left the room, Catherine followed them. Actually, she did not dislike the fact that her father gives Jeff work but the way he acts as if he wanted him to give up on her was what is so upsetting.
Her father deliberately giving Jeff hard tasks was his way of making Jeff give up on her. Jeff might not know this but she does. She might not know why her father was acting this way but she definitely is not happy with this at all.
When they got to the hall Catherine was surprised to see about five buckets of white paint lying at the centre of the hall.
"Jeffrey as you can see, the walls of the hall is very dirty. I am not able to paint the walls because of my waist and back pains so I will leave the job to you. I hope you know how to paint?" Mr Qin asked while staring at his face.
"Dad, the one who paints the wall doesn't have to be you or him. We can employ people to paint the walls and I am sure the students would have been willing to help if you had told them yesterday that you wanted to paint the walls today," Catherine said before Jeff could reply.
"I know we have the means to pay for painters to do the work but what is the use of wasting money when we have a capable man like him and the students were not enrolled in our martial arts Academy to do work so how could you suggest that I should have asked them for help," Mr Qin asked firmly.
"But Jeff can't...,"
"Uncle is right when he said why do we need to waste money when you both have me here," Jeff said forcing on a smile.
"Hey, Frey stop trying to play the hero here just because you want my dad to like you because if he doesn't like you nothing you do will make him like you...,"
"Erin, what are you saying?" Jeff said as he held her hand. He brought back his attention to Mr Qin afterwards.
"Uncle, don't worry I will try my best to complete the work today. You can go back to the house and rest," Jeff said to the further annoyance of Catherine.
"Now you are talking. I will leave everything here in your care then," Mr Qin said before he spun and left the hall.
