Chapter 119 - Why Girlfriends?
"Cat, are you perhaps treating us coldly because you think that we are stealing Jasmine away from you?" Jeff asked when he noticed that there was no change in Catherine's expression.
"Cat, I know that it hurt a lot to see the best friend you have known for years get taken away from you within a twinkle of an eye but honestly that is not what we are doing. Yes, Jasmine hangs out with us very often but that is purely for fun. She doesn't disclose anything personal to us because she doesn't trust us but that is not the case with you," Jeff said in a calm tone.
"Ahe trusts you unconditionally and you know it. Can you now see the difference between our friendship with Jasmine and your relationship with her?" Jeff asked as she stares at her now softened expression.
"Yeah, Jeff is right. There is a clear distinction between our friendship with Jasmine so I don't see any reason why we should fight over this. Jasmine is our friend and that fact remains," Steve supported.
"Catherine, let's be friends ok? I promise to always protect you. I will always be there to support you. I will always have your back at all times," Jeff said as he stares at her affectionately.
"You are not proposing to me so why do you have to look so serious. You should say those words to your girlfriends and not me," Catherine replied in a stern but equally playful tone.
"Why girlfriends? Isn't it supposed to be a girlfriend?" Steve asked curiously.
"He is handsome and all handsome men I know are playboys. They are not satisfied with having just one girlfriend so I am sure he is no different," Catherine said to the surprise of Steve and Jeff. Steve who saw Jeff surprised expression turned unhappy tried to suppress his laughter.
"Jeff, Catherine thinks you are a playboy is that true?" Steve who had seen how displeased Jeff was tried to worsen the issue.
"Didn't she say all handsome men? That means you are not an exception so stop rejoicing since she also thinks you are a playboy," Jeff said as he grabbed the glass of wine in front of him. he poured the whiskey into it before he drank the content at once. The five of them on that table continued to drink. Despite how noisy the club was, they were not the least affected by the loud music or the scream of the clubbers.
Two hours later everyone on the table except Jackson was all drunk.
"Jasmine, you have had enough already so stop drinking," Jackson said as he held the glass of wine that was about to touch her lips.
"What do you care? My father doesn't even care about what I do so who the hell are you to lecture me," Jasmine said drunkenly as she dragged the glass of wine from his grip.
"Jasmine, I am going to get very mad at you if you continue drinking so excessively. If you are in pain or upset about something, you can tell me instead of drinking yourself to stupor ok," Jackson said when he saw her pour whiskey into the glass once again.
"You are nothing to me so why should I care about your anger," Jasmine said still in her drunken state. Despite that, he knew that she was drunk, her words still got to him. He quickly withdrew his outstretched hand he had wanted to snatch the wine glass from her hand.
I heard that people speak the truth when they are drunk but my heart aches so much to hear the truth from her. Maybe this was what Steve meant when he asked whether I would be able to remain so indifferent if Jasmine said the same words he said to that jerk to me. It hurts so much to hear the truth.
Jackson said as he tilted his head sideways to avoid staring at the drunk Jasmine.
Just a month more and it will be a year since I met you for the first time in the club. Despite having heard a lot about you, my heart still subconsciously drew to you. It began beating for you without me even realizing it. When I realized what had happened to my once stony heart, it was too late. There was no turning point for a heart that had begun beating just for you. It took me six months of waiting before the opportunity to get close to you finally came. And when that opportunity came I grabbed it with both hands refusing to let go. I can't believe it had been five months since I put my plan in motion, yet there has been no positive result. I am such a disappointment.
Jackson thought as he rested his head against the couch. He closed his eyes and reminisce about the past five months.
Meanwhile, Jeff sitting beside Catherine on the other couch turned and face him.
"Cat, you think I am a playboy but honestly I don't have a girlfriend. After I slept in the police station for a night because of the scheme of two devilish ladies I thought were angels, I have refused to get myself a girlfriend so I am not a playboy like you think. I am a really nice guy," the drunk Jeff said as he stares at Catherine who was also drunk.
"Does that mean you have never had sex with any lady after that?" Catherine asked as she stared into his eyes.
"I have had sex with ladies after that but...,"
"But you didn't make any of them your girlfriend right? " Catherine completed the sentence for him.
"Do you dislike the fact that I had sex with them? I...., "
"Why do all the handsome men have to be the bad guys? It's just so unfair for good girls like us," Catherine said as she placed her hand on his cheek. Steve whose focus was on his drink was too busy to pay attention to the two naughty people sitting on the same couch with him.
