Chapter 675 The Evacuation

675  The Evacuation

Sooner or later, Menis would deplete its power reserves, causing the power of its bombardment explosions to weaken as its accumulated energy ran out. Daniel knew he needed at least one of the Godslayer Cannons in position as quickly as possible to ensure a reliable way to deal with any powerful demons that might emerge from the gate.

On the screen, high-ranking demons began appearing, including an Archfiend that managed to survive the orbital bombardment. The towering demon advanced toward the defensive formation, but it was immediately met with a concentrated barrage of plasma fire from thousands of SD-700 series units deployed on the battlefield.

The plasma bolts relentlessly tore into its body before a barrage of missiles from a bipedal mech finished it off, obliterating the upper half of its hulking body.

It's worth noting that an Archfiend is a high-ranking demon, not something easily brought down by conventional weapons.

The reason it was dispatched so efficiently was due to the injuries it had already sustained from the orbital bombardment. Additionally, the plasma bolts fired by the SD-700 units were infused with mana, and the missiles were also specifically designed to target and destroy supernatural entities.

Had it been unscathed, the battle would have dragged on far longer.

All of this was thanks to Nexus Prime's meticulous preparations. Its understanding of the nature of the world it inhabited and its forecasting capabilities as a Super A.I. accurately predicted that its master, Daniel Emberweave, would inevitably clash with supernatural beings.

For this reason, every new piece of armament Nexus Prime equipped its forces with was specifically designed to inflict damage on supernatural entities.

Not far from the main battlefield, Atlantean carryalls arrived at a nearby dock to evacuate civilian survivors.

The dock was teeming with over a hundred thousand people, the crowd spilling far beyond the facility's boundaries. The Atlantean carryalls organized the evacuees into several orderly lines as more carryalls arrived to speed up the evacuation process.

On the ground, soldiers in power armor worked to maintain order, ensuring the people could board the carryalls in an efficient and systematic manner. Families clung to one another in the hope of not getting separated, children crying in fear and panic in their parent's bosom, some crying, searching for their missing parents while some soldiers tried to soothe them, their wails blending with the groans of the injured. The scene was grim, as if it was a scene from some post-apocalyptic dystopian movie.

"Stay in line! No pushing! Be patient, and we'll get you out of here! Hey Over there I said don't f*cking push! Are you deaf!?" Nicholas Sullivan, the field commander of this task force, shouted to the crowd, his voice firm and authoritative as he addressed those attempting to cut in line.

The imposing presence of the soldiers in their hulking power armor, coupled with the weaponry they carried was enough to dissuade anyone from attempting anything stupid.

A few wealthy people tried to bribe the soldiers to prioritize their families, but their offers were promptly rejected with stern warnings. Emergency queues were strictly reserved for critically or severely injured individuals, ensuring they could receive treatment in time.

"You damn New Atlantean demon!!"

At that moment, a man in rags standing in the queue screamed with hatred. He suddenly drew a concealed gun and pointed it at one of the soldiers in power armor.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The gun fired multiple rounds, but the bullets harmlessly bounced off the soldier's sturdy power armor. Before the man could do more, he was swiftly subdued by a taser carried by the soldier, rendering him unconscious.

Underneath the tattered clothing, the man was wearing a Qing Empire soldier's uniform. It became evident that his sudden outburst was the result of a lingering mind suggestion spell.

Although the spell's effect had weakened enough for him to desert his army and join the refugees, the sight of the New Atlantean soldiers reignited its influence. The spell intensified his hatred, causing him to lose control of his actions.

The sudden gunfire startled the crowd, causing a ripple of fear and some chaos as people in the back began to push the line forward.

However, the disorder was quickly brought under control. The instigator was punished by being sent to the very end of the queue, and Nicholas ensured everyone understood the consequences of causing chaos.

He then jumped up to the nearest container to let the people see him.

Upon hearing this, the refugees immediately began scanning their lines for hidden soldiers. Their desire to get first led to the discovery of over a thousand Qing Empire soldiers concealed among the crowd. Many of these soldiers were beaten by the civilians before being apprehended by Atlantean soldiers.

Once in custody, the Qing Empire soldiers were administered a dose of sedative to render them unconscious, preventing further incidents. They were confined in containers and later transported by carryalls, which had arrived with reinforcements, to be removed from the evacuation site.

The citizens who identified the hidden soldiers were moved to the special queue as promised, ensuring they and their families could board the evacuation vessels ahead of others amidst the jealousy of the refugees that doesn't get such opportunity.

Amidst the reinforcements that arrived with the latest batch, two individuals stood out. The first was a large, muscular man clad in artifact armor, carrying a massive warhammer the size of a full-grown man on his back.

The second had a build akin to a professional swimmer, with firm, lean muscles. He wore similar artifact armor, though his design was tailored for flexibility and speed. A katana rested at his waist, its polished sheath gleaming faintly in the light.

These two were Heracles and Momotaro, specifically requested by Daniel to assist in this operation. Momotaro, in particular, was brought in from Japan, where the civil war had long ended, leaving him with little to do aside from acting as a bodyguard for the Mori Clan.

Regarding the Mori Clan's protection, Tomoe Gozen was already stationed there, guarding Mori Mayumi. Her strength and skills had proven more than sufficient to thwart any assassination attempts. Nôv(el)B\\jnn

"Mr. Sullivan," Heracles called out as he approached Nicholas Sullivan. "How's the situation?" he asked.

"Got it," Heracles replied with a firm nod. The two then walked toward the frontline, preparing to defend against any archfiends that might come to bother their evacuation efforts.

Without waiting long, several archfiends approached, intent on feasting on the souls of the refugees.

Their roars sent waves of fear through the weaker-minded refugees, but a hammer to its face immediately silenced the archfiend that dared to roar.

Bam!

The giant warhammer crushed the archfiend's skull, sending blood splattering and staining the hammer's head with demonic ichor. However, such an injury could only be a heavy injury, not a fatal one, as an archfiend's vitality was vastly superior to a normal human's.

Before the archfiend could retaliate, Heracles quickly swung his hammer again, shattering its legs and sending the creature crashing to the ground with an agonizing roar.
