Chapter 2: Teleporter
Chapter 2: Teleporter
While Derek was immersed in his memories, a huge creature approached him. The heavy sounds of its body didn't wake Derek, for he was deeply immersed in his memories.
Saliva dripped from the creature's mouth as it fantasized about the delicious food before it. Like all nightmares, they loved their food alive because, for them, that's when the meat was tastier.
Although the human before it was skinny, they didn't care. At least he was better than the dead ones.
Loud screeching sounds woke Derek from his memories. His vision was blurry for a while but soon cleared, and he saw huge black scales before him while something fell on his head. It was quite warm.
Derek touched his head and checked the spot the warm liquid was. He brought his hands down and saw a sticky, smelling substance on his fingers. 'where did such stinking rubbish come from?' he mused inwardly,
Derek raised his head and looked up.
Roar!!
The huge Savage chompers of the nightmare were wide open as it roared with its saliva spilling on Derek's face. The creature had no lips, which emphasized its saw-like chompers.
Derek couldn't breathe because of the smell that came out of the nightmare's huge mouth. He stared at the roaring creature with his blank eyes clearing up.
The extreme anger that hid behind his sorrow came out of its hiding and Derek shouted with extreme rage "You took my family away from me!!, You filthy bastard creature!!", Shouting wasn't enough for Derek, he raised his skinny hands, and punched the nightmare at its chest, but his bones dislocated and he groaned in pain, BOOOMM!!.
The nightmare flung him away with its claws. Derek hits the wall and coughed out blood. His vision was blurry, but even then his rage kept on increasing as his anger that had accumulated since his previous life poured out.
And his bottled emotions exploded, and Derek clenched his fist so tight that his palm began to bleed.
The pain he felt from the wound in his abdomen fueled his anger. He picked a stone and threw it towards the nightmare; the stone was completely useless as it just deflected off the hard scales of the nightmare, but it succeeded in provoking the beast.
The nightmare stood up with its powerful hind legs and growled deeply before unleashing a loud, angry roar. Derek's eardrums quaked and his anger cleared from his eyes, and fear took over.
His thoughts came back to normal, and he trembled. A nightmare could even kill a teleporter. A top figure that an ordinary man like him could never meet in his life.
He only saw them on TV and the few teleporters in this stronghold are either dead or escaped, so no one could save him and not his anger.
Derek turned back and ran like his life depended on it. Well, his life depended on it this time.
He heard the nightmare chasing after him, but it moved slowly. It seemed to enjoy watching its prey flee in fear. It was entertaining and also made the meal taste better.
After running for a while, the nightmare got bored and rushed toward Derek. Derek ran with all his might, but the nightmare kept closing the distance between them.
Once the nightmare was a few meters away from him, it opened its mouth, ready to bite off Derek's head. BANG!, The nightmare slumped on the ground.
Derek turned toward the direction the sound came from, and he saw the old woman with a gun. He smiled in relief and waved his hands to the old woman, indicating he was fine.
"Ha!... Thanks...m.." he could not finish his words as his eyes widened in horror.
A sharp bone spike pierced into the old woman's chest. Her smile froze and she suddenly spat blood and wobbled.
Before she could fall, the nightmare appeared before her and opened its enormous mouth. It snapped its jaws, and half of the old woman from her head till her waist disappeared inside the nightmare's mouth.
Blood spilled from her lower half and both legs fell covered in blood. Derek's eyes widened to the limit in fear, shock, and anger. His eyes blurred, and he raced towards the nightmare with boiling rage.
This was the first time he absolutely despised his weakness. He was powerless to do a thing. He didn't see his family's deaths, but he saw the old woman's.
She just saved his life, and she paid dearly for it. Maybe she would have survived if she never came out to save him and the rescue team from other strongholds would have rescued her, but she died for a useless person like him.
Derek understood why he had never had a family in his previous life. He could have never protected them or even help financially.
He was born to be a failure even in this world," ha!!, What a useless life". Derek laughed bitterly, and he ran towards the angry beast, who also moved towards him.
Suddenly, a curved dagger materialized in his left hand. He was shocked, but the nightmare had arrived and opened its jaws, revealing a set of razor sharp chompers.
Derek did not know what to do, but he heard teleporters always throw their dagger so he threw his dagger upwards.
WHOOSH!
He appeared mid-air with the dagger back in his hands. "WOW!" Derek bellowed with both disbelief and awe, but his joy vanished when he felt an intense pain in his abdomen
A bone spike swoosh past him not before tearing some part of his flesh and sweat filled his face. It was the same spike that hit the old woman and he was extremly lucky.
One hit and he was a goner.
There was another major problem; he was falling! And the nightmare had opened its enormous mouth. Derek could see some parts of human flesh stuck within its savage teeth.
When he was close to the nightmare's jaws, he threw his dagger, and WHOOSH! He appeared at a different spot.
nodding softly, Derek felt he now understood some parts of his new powers. BAM!
His sensitive ears twitched, but before he could react a stone slams straight in his chest causing him to fly into the distance smashing into a crushed car.
He knew this was his end as the pains from his rib cage assured him of a few broken ribs.
Teleporters had only insane physical strength in addition to their daggers which makes them formidable.
While they heal faster than normal, it was something that could be ignored. because it made no difference when critically injuried.
"Well, I still enjoyed it while it lasted, wow I must be entering the history book as the earliest teleporter to die not even ten minutes after he awakened," He chortled, at least he knew what it meant to have powers before he died.
Graa!
The nightmare growled and rushed towards him with its three tails ready to shoot spikes at Derek should he make any suspicious movement.
