Chapter 1373  Would You Do That?

"Are you trying to fool me right now?" asked Raelle seriously. "Just because I don't understand certain things doesn't mean I am so easily fooled."

"But I swear, it happened!" said Shui Xian. "Why have I never encountered such dramas?"

"First, you don't go to crowded places. Second, you often zone out the world and just build a silent bubble around yourself. How would you see it? But trust me if you ask others, they must have encountered at least one such live show around."

"I will ask Cloe," said Raelle, and even took the phone to make a call.

"Right now?" "Yes. I have to know it right now!"

Shui Xian shrugged and let her be.

Cloe picked up her phone after a long wait, "Chief, you should not disturb someone's good times."

"I don't wanna go into these details of your good times right now," responded Raelle. "I called for a serious matter."

"Of course, I have!" was Cloe's answer. "And by the way, this is no serious matter! You could have waited until tomorrow! You are exploiting your employee right now by calling her after midnight for such a stupid question."

Cloe's frustration of having her good times ruined, died down when she heard that and she sighed, "No, you are not wrong."

"I didn't ask a stupid question. I was just curious. Is it wrong to try to kill your curiosity as soon as possible?"

"No, you can never be wrong," replied Cloe. "Fine, I'll tell you. You indeed don't pay attention to what goes on around you. You do have a habit of living in a bubble unless the things have anything to do with you. I'll share the latest office romance drama with you. One of our female employees from the HR department had been getting expensive gifts from one of the directors whom I won't name right now. She didn't dare to reject the gifts for fear of losing her job by offending the director. But when the director tried to go a little further, she lost her patience and told everything to her boyfriend. Guess what, her boyfriend happens to be from a rich family too. He brought a box full of those expensive gifts and organized a meeting with the director, and then he dropped everything on his head before beating him like a punching bag."

Raelle was speechless, "You seemed to have had a lot of fun."

"It was indeed fun and entertaining. You don't get to enjoy such dramas every day."

"Why didn't you tell me about this?"

"I did. I told you a certain director tried to misbehave with an employee and you fired him on the spot. Does it ring a bell?"

"But you didn't explain what happened?"

"You never need explanations," replied Cloe. "Now, be a good girl and go to sleep. Let me have some fun!"

Raelle looked at her phone saying, "She just hung up on me."

"What were you expecting?"

Raelle put her head on his chest as she said, "I didn't think there really was drama in real life."

"It just shows your lack of interest in anything unrelated to your work or people you care about."

"I'll try to pay attention from now on," she said to herself. She really had to experience this to believe it. Because until now, she really thought Shui Xian and Cloe were trying to fool her by talking nonsense. So, the facts could only be cleared once she witnessed things with her own eyes. She put her hand under the pillow and took out a book which she pushed into Shui Xian's hands, "Here, read it to me."

"Huh?" Shui Xian was dumbfounded by her request.

"What? If you have a good voice, you should be using it for a great cause."

"What's the great cause?" he asked.

"Reading books to your wife so that she doesn't have to read them herself," said Raelle. "You see, your wife loves books and she loves you too. So, when you read the book to her, her oxytocin neurotransmitters would be triggered helping her in promoting the feelings of trust, connection, and emotional warmth with you. Then your voice is her favorite, it'll also trigger the serotonin and help her sleep better. Not only that, dopamine level would also go up, and she'll feel rewarded leading to happiness. And..."

"You can stop. I'll just read. No, if you tell me I'll also start recording your next book in my voice so that you can hear it on your way to work or whenever you have time."

"Would you do that? That'd be great!"

Shui Xian took a deep breath as he stared into her eyes that were looking forward to him working overtime for this and he gave in. He held her head and put it on his chest again saying, "Close your eyes and focus. I'm gonna start reading."

Strangely enough, the book she was reading was different from her usual reads. It was a novel of interconnected stories that not only spanned the decades but also continents. The elements of science experiments, dark human hearts, complex emotions, and experiences. The narrative weaved together a kaleidoscopic view of the character's lives and how the passage of time changed things.

Even Shui Xian found himself getting absorbed in the book. That's why it was only after thirty minutes when he felt thirsty did he notice that Raelle seemed to have fallen asleep at some point. He bookmarked the book, drank some water, and hugged her to sleep. He kissed her forehead as he whispered, "You have no idea how happy I feel, knowing that you have started to boss me around. Don't worry! I'll work extra hard to record whatever you want in my voice. As long as you like it." He caressed the side of her face before closing his eyes with a smile playing on his lips.
