“Qingqing, is it just me, or is the car behind following us?” The purple Porsche Su Yu saw from the rearview mirror had been behind them for a while. Weird.
Before Lin Qingqing could even get a good look at it, the Porsche sped up—it was going after them. Shoot. “Sit tight, Yu!” Her eyes narrowed, her grip on the steering wheel tightened.
Just as they’d thought, the Porsche made the same sharp turn as they did. And when they sped past the yellow light thinking they’d escaped, it ran the red light, trying to rear-end them like a maniac.
Lin Qingqing hit the brakes hard, spinning the wheel. Though the car drifted to the opposite lane, the Porsche still hit them from behind. Smoke hissed, escaping from the wrecked rear. The driver of the Porsche was long gone, fleeing the accident scene right after the collision.
The jolt of the crash knocked Su Yu unconscious, blood streaming down the side of her head.
“Are you okay, Yu?” Everything was spinning for Lin Qingqing. She ignored the stabbing pain from the shattered glass and called the emergency services right away.
The insurance company came soon, towing the totaled car away with them.
Lin Qingqing suffered only from minor injuries. After having them dressed, she hurried to Su Yu’s ward. She was awake now, with Su Chen in the room taking care of her needs.
“Are you hurt, Qingqing?” Su Yu asked, her voice full of worry. She locked her eyes on Lin Qingqing’s right arm, which a bandage wrapped around it. She knew her friend was always self-conscious about her appearance, crying over even the slightest scratch, afraid of scarring.
Lin Qingqing shook her head and smiled. She was okay.
“I’ve got my assistant speaking to our lawyer, Yu. They won’t get away with it.” Su Chen’s brows furrowed. He peeled the skin off the orange and held one slice to Su Yu. Then, he washed another orange and did the same thing for Lin Qingqing.
Lin Qingqing lowered her head, overwhelmed with guilt. She held onto the orange and said nothing.
Su Yu was puzzled. “What’s wrong, Qingqing? The orange’s not sour at all. Why aren’t you talking? Are you in pain?”
“No…” Lin Qingqing looked up, her eyes shimmering with tears.
Su Chen got up and had her seated on the chair. He pulled out some tissue and gave them to her.
“It’s all my fault. I wasn’t careful enough, and I shouldn’t have bickered around. If I had noticed the tailing car earlier, you wouldn’t be lying here.”
Su Yu chuckled and teased, “I merely passed out. Look, I’m unharmed. Ask my brother about that. He’d have gone cuckoo if I was.”
Lin Qingqing didn’t believe her until she’d checked every limb of Su Yu’s was securely attached and unwounded. It was only then she laughed.
“No one is to blame here.” Su Chen broke his silence. “I’m glad that you’re all safe, and you can leave the rest to me.”
Just then, someone barged in. Chu Yaoyao.
The three had so many questions.
What in the world was she doing here? How did she know about her hospitalization? With eyes full of curiosity, Su Yu glared at the intruder.
“You’re not welcomed here!” Lin Qingqing spoke up. She didn’t care why—she only knew she had to put on an aggressive defense. She was ready to get into action if the b*tch came here to gloat.
“Don’t you find your friend’s hostility unnecessary, Su Yu?” Chu Yaoyao faked a smile.
Her uncaring attitude drove Lin Qingqing up a wall. That thicked-skinned c*nt!
