Chapter 77 - Keeping Secrets
Chapter 77: Keeping Secrets
Before anyone could react, Mr. Lin had raised his hand and swung it towards Su Yu. Thank goodness Su Lingan was there to stop it before it could land on her face, or it would swell for days.
“Don’t push your luck,” Su Lingyun gritted through his teeth.
Su Yu jumped. “Are you okay?” She checked his arm.
Inappropriate laughter came out of Mr. Lin as she shook his head in disdain. He then spat on the floor. “Do you think you can evade the statute and punishment if something’s happened with Sisi just because you’re rich and influential?”
Su Yu was amused. Why brought up law now, but not then when their daughter had committed a crime?
“Of course not, but the same goes for your daughter. There’s solid proof that she’s hired a hitman to murder someone. Sure, I wanted to let it slide. But since you brought it up, I changed my mind. You’re right about something, though—as adults, we should all pay for our mistakes.”
When Mrs. Lin went pale and collapsed shortly, Officer Qi caught her. “That’s enough, Ms. Su. Everything can wait till we’ve found Lin Sisi. If she’s done it, we won’t let her off that easily,” he promised.
Mrs. Lin shoved the officer away, glancing at him with wary. “I thought you were on the good side, but no. No!” she screamed. “Is there no justice in the world?”
The commotion was so loud that all the other cops swarmed out. What was going on?
A few observant officers came forward to split the Lins away from the rest to prevent a fight from breaking out.
“Sounds like there’s more that you haven’t told me yet,” Su Lingan said in frustration. His look was no longer gentle but stern and uncompromising. Did he spoil his sister too much that she was now keeping secrets from him? Even if it concerned her safety?
Realizing everything was out of the bag, Su Yu gave him a glimpse of guilt. “I—let’s talk when we get home, brother.”
“Su Yu!”
Frantically, she admitted to everything, apologizing for keeping him in the dark.
“He’s your brother?” Fu Yunian intruded, making the situation as awkward as anyone could imagine.
Su Lingan turned to him. “None of your business, dude!”
And Fu Yunian stopped asking questions as he was, too, furious. Lin Sisi—that b*tch—hired a hitman? Wouldn’t he now be staring at Su Yu’s dead body if Lin Sisi got her way?
The thought petrified him. He pulled out his phone to text his assistant, urging them to investigate Lin Sisi and the hitman.
“I’m telling you. We’re not afraid of you. You’re only telling your side of the story, and do you think the police would believe in you without any proof? Dream on!” Mr. Lin yelled, and as if he was mustering up his courage, he straightened up.
