Chapter 149 Wheel of Fortune
The silver-sailed ship sailed away with the pirate flag appearing back on its mast. It was heading straight out of the region of the five islands.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
However, they left behind a red rowboat, which was battling against the waves.
"This is bullshit!" Julian grabbed the two oars and rowed backwards.
Opposite him, Kiernan sat at the front of the boat, trying to keep it steady.
"What now?" Julian asked. "We're poor, stranded, and definitely about to die."
"At least we're free!" Kiernan said with a grin.
"Yes, free, yippee." Julian rolled his eyes.
"Don't worry, though; head back to Letzer Island," Kiernan said.
"Why?" Julian asked. "The navy must be scouring the whole island by now."
"This rowboat will be the death of ours; we must steal one of the ships there."
"Steal one?" Julian turned around to look at the brightly lit island and at the ships. "Those are all navy ships, though?"
"We can't be picky with our choices," Kiernan said. "Also, don't worry too much about the money."
"Huh? What do you mean?" Julian asked with a frown.
Kiernan, with a smile on his face, took out a heavy-looking money bag from his inventory and placed it in the middle of the rowboat.
The bag weighed down the rowboat, and they almost sank as a result.
"Is this my money bag?" Julian asked in surprise. "It didn't have this much money last time, did it?"
Your journey continues on empire
"Correct, it has now about 60 thousand gold coins," Kiernan said with a smile. "You see, the treasure chest originally had about 150 thousand gold coins, but before coming to the harbor, I took a little souvenir for myself."
"You took money from the chest?" Julian laughed out loud. "I see. Because you have the Spatial Ring, they didn't know!"
…
About half an hour ago.
"Haah, haah, haah!"
Panting heavily, Kiernan sneaked inside one of the alleyways with the treasure chest in his arms.
He had a good view of the harbor already. If he ran now, he could be there in about twenty seconds.
However, Kiernan peeked out of the alleyway towards the direction where he came from and couldn't see any of the navy soldiers yet.
It seemed like they were still busy searching the area around the cursed tree.
'Let's see what we got!'
Kiernan put the treasure chest down on the ground, then looked for the key and found it at the chest's lock.
He shrugged his shoulders and just twisted it, opening the chest.
A bright view of the gold coins appeared in his way.
'This is so much, easily over the needed amount to purchase our freedom, but how much…'
Out of curiosity, he sucked all the gold coins into his system interface, leaving the dusty chest completely empty.
[+150,000 Gold Coins]
[Gold: 150,232]
[Congratulations, you've unlocked Lottery!]
'As I expected, I needed a certain amount of money to unlock the lottery.'
A smile appeared on his face, and he curiously checked the lottery option in the system.
A holographic lottery wheel appeared in the air at the alleyway. It had hundreds of rewards for him to win.
However, one spin of the wheel costs 50,000 gold coins!
'I see; it must've been 50,000 gold coins to unlock the lottery. It's very expensive, but the rewards must definitely be worth it!'
He then took out some of the money from his inventory and placed about a hundred thousand gold coins back in the chest.
The rest he placed inside Julian's money bag. He was planning to show him the money, after all.
'That money must be used wisely. I let Julian get some of the money, and the rest I will keep for myself and save enough to have one spin at the lottery.
'The lottery is a risky choice, and it can probably give nothing, but it probably can give something that will change my life forever.'
He then slammed the chest shut. It closed again. He then tossed the key away.
'I don't want them to have any idea that I might've stolen some of the money. It is better to get rid of the key and make them open it forcefully, I guess.'
He then lifted up the chest and started running down to the harbor.
…
At the present time.
The navy soldiers patrolled the harbor with the rifles in hand.
None of them looked happy as they were having a very enjoyable dinner, but that was interrupted because some lunatic decided to chop down the tree in the center of the town square.
"Who the heck could've done that?" A navy soldier asked from his patrolling partner.
"Some lunatic," his friend said in anger. "That person left the axe behind, and our superiors went to check out the weapon shop and asked the shop lady who she sold it to. Apparently it was stolen."
"So this was planned," the navy soldier said with a scoff. "People sure can be the worst, huh?"
They walked down the planked harbor and didn't notice some bubbling in the water beneath the dock.
A pair of heads peeked from underwater.
"By the way, are you also feeling strange?" His friend said. "I've been very happy being there. Strangely happy, I guess that's what a peaceful environment does to a person, but ever since that tree got chopped off, I've been mildly down."
"I guess that's what an empty stomach does to you!" The navy soldier said. "Anyway, let's go check the next area; there is nothing in the harbor."
"Aye!"
After they left, the two drenched young men hopped from the water and sneaked inside one of the navy ships.
Without anyone noticing a thing, the navy ship started to sail away with seemingly no one on board.
However, then the fortress' watchtower cast a bright light over the ship, and the alarms started to sound.
"I guess they've discovered us!" Julian shouted while handling the sails.
It was clear he knew what he was doing with the sails. He had previous experience as he often sailed with his father.
"That was to be expected," Kiernan handled the wheel of the ship. "Be ready for a chase!"
"I am not getting caught anymore!" Julian quickly pulled the ropes, unfurling the sails. "We've finally gotten our freedom back, shit!"
