Chapter 147 Full Responsibility

Kiernan dragged the navy soldier's unconscious body out of the view of any pedestrians.

The main street had an easy view of the alleyway, but after he hid the body behind a couple of trash cans, it was much harder to see him.

"Whew…" Kiernan sighed and looked at his fingers.

The fingers looked fine because of the powerful ability of the tattoo of Kiernan.

'I suppose Twisted Amnesia worked.'

He thought as he looked at the navy soldier.

As soon as the fight began, he knew how the fight would end—the fight's last move was always going to be the Twisted Amnesia.

Twisted Amnesia was a unique technique in his vast arsenal of techniques. It was a technique that would cause short-term amnesia to his opponent.

When used, his opponent wouldn't be able to remember the last 24 hours, thus the navy soldier, once he woke up, wouldn't remember what happened to him.

He wouldn't even remember waking up today! Your next read awaits at empire

'Also, he didn't seem too happy like the others,' Kiernan thought. 'Maybe powerful emotions like anger, sadness, or fear could overpower the cursed tree's effects.'

It made him quite curious, but he decided to learn about the psychology aspect of the cursed tree at a later date.

After sneaking out of the alleyway, he quickly made his way to the Innkeeper's Paradise, and after greeting the elderly woman there, he went straight to his room.

It was currently empty as Wren hadn't come back yet.

'Hmm, I wonder what they're up to.'

Kiernan left his room and knocked on the neighboring door.

After a few heartbeats, Julian opened the door, and after seeing Kiernan, he greeted him and let him in.

"Anything to report?" Kiernan asked as he walked inside.

"Nothing much~" Julian said and looked to the balcony, where Daphne was sitting and looking out to the town. "Daphne has been keeping an eye on the navy's movements. Nothing so far."

"I had a slight encounter with the navy," Kiernan said with a sigh. "We must do this today."

"What happened?" Julian asked with a frown.

With perked ears, Daphne looked over from the balcony.

"Nothing significant, but it will be a matter of time before the navy finds out the disappearance of one of their soldiers. I think we have a few hours to get out of here with our treasure."

Knock, knock!

"Who is it this time?" Julian went to the door, opened it, and without getting to see who it was, Wren rudely pushed past him with an axe in hand.

It was quite a funny sight to see someone so petite and innocent-looking carrying a manly-looking axe that looked like it could chop down a tree in one strike.

"Here."

Wren tossed it over to Kiernan, who caught it with ease.

"Where is your friend~?" Wren asked from Kiernan with a smile.

"Sleeping," Kiernan said. "I will give us about two hours to do this before we must get out. I just hope no one happens to wander into that alleyway, so the sooner the better, please."

Daphne said. "The sky has turned orange; dusk is approaching. I'll give it thirty minutes before the shops start closing."

"Alright~" Wren said. "Julian, Daphne, and I will go to the ship and get it ready to leave at a moment's notice. We'll leave the tree to Kiernan."

"What if something occurs and he needs help?" Julian asked.

"This was Kiernan's adventure," Wren said. "If someone gets caught, it should only be him. Thus, if suddenly alarms start blaring throughout the island, we'll dip and leave Kiernan behind."

"Huh?" Julian frowned and grabbed her by the collar. "That's bullshit. I know you're pirates, but have you ever heard of comradery?"

"Hands off me, peasant." Wren said coldly with squinted eyes. "I don't know you or Kiernan. Why would I risk my life for you two?"

Julian's eyes narrowed, and his voice turned low and dangerous.

"I might kill you for that."n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

At that moment, a sharp blade appeared at Julian's throat. Its razor-sharp edge already cut slightly into his skin.

"Daphne…" Julian turned his head to face Daphne, who was holding the blade. "Remove the blade from my throat, or I will remove your head from your shoulders."

"Heh~" Daphne giggled. "Do you know who you're threatening?"

Wren's eyes narrowed, and her nails started to grow as she tensed her fingers into rock-hard claws. She wasn't Quartermaster of the Silver Hunt Pirates for nothing.

She had already reached Martial Grandmaster rank!

"Enough," Kiernan said. "Wren is right. We're here because of me, and it should be me taking all the risk."

"…"

Julian silently let go of Wren's collar, and Daphne sheathed her blade into its scabbard.

The scabbard for the blade was small, and it neatly fit into the sleeve of her dress.

"At least one of you is sensible," Wren scoffed and patted the dirt off her collar. "Shall we go then? I am starting to feel the cursed tree's effects more and more, and I hate it!"

Daphne, and followed behind Wren—they left the inn room and headed straight out.

"Are you sure about this?" Julian asked. "I don't trust those two. I think we should just steal their pirate ship and leave with the entirety of the treasure."

"I don't think that will work," Kiernan said with a sigh. "Wren and Daphne came with us for a reason. They're here to make sure we won't be able to just run off with the treasure.

"Also, you don't have to trust them, only Ambrose. I know your past with pirates, but have faith in this one; I'll take full responsibility."

"Alright," Julian scratched his hair. "Be careful. There's no way in hell that you will be able to get the treasure without making some noise. It'll definitely make quite a big ruckus."

"Oh, I know, but you don't have to worry."

Kiernan said, and weighed the axe in his hand, a small smile creeping up on his face.

Julian nodded, and then, with his hands inside his pockets, he left the inn room to run after the two girls.

Kiernan stepped out onto the balcony, looked at the setting sun, and let out a deep breath.
