Chapter 58 Faceless mercenary-1
58 Faceless mercenary-1
"Hmm, wow, that's actually delicious.....what did you call it again?" Leon sighed in delight. In his hand was a ball of metallic brown rice wrapped in a leafy covering.
"They are called Yunmo rice balls" Arian said causally while looking intensely at Leon.
"10/10!! Your cooking skills are spectacular" Leon complimented Arian with a thumbs up. He had no idea that this cold beauty could actually cook so well.
She just causally made some rice balls and they were this good? She was a real talent.
"Thank you" Arian said before swiftly turning her face sideways as if trying to hide the blush that was slowly forming on her face.
"Hmmm, did you notice?" Leon smiled at this scene and changed the topic.
"Yes, he's gone" Arian looked to one of the ceilings of the courtyard and announced confidently.
The guy who had followed Leon here had stayed for four good days stalking their every move, but after seeing Leon's daily mundane activities. He soon understood that he was just wasting his time.
"Sigh!! That was annoying" Leon shook his head. He didn't like wasting time, but he knew that this was actually delicate. If the man were to tag them as suspicious, and investigated them to the extent that he was able to tie them to what happened in the tamlin camp, they would be done for.
This jump scare reminded Leon on the need to hide their identity.
(Even before joining the faceless mercenary company, I'll need to add another layer of secrecy.)
"Gunta, head to the market and get me a few things…."
Leon looked over at gunta and commanded.
At night,
Two figures made their way out of the Inn
One was a young man with white hair and sparkling blue eyes, with a traditional black Japanese kimono and a hood over his head. This second was a lady with hair similar to that of the young man, she too covered her head with a long black hood.
They walked directly from inside the inn into the street without stopping for a minute. Then, they entered the crowd.
"Hm? They are trying to disappear?" From inside one of the alleyways, a voice resounded as a faceless man revealed himself from the shadows.
The mercenary called Eroding Blade didn't leave, for some reason, he could feel that he was being watched when he stayed around the courtyard. It was strange, so he decided to step back and, giving them the illusion that he was gone.
However, he was just waiting for them to reveal themselves. The possibility that these guys were related to the disappearance of their teammate had risen by a giant margin.
He had to follow them.
However, he would soon come to realize that this was a mistake. Because as soon as he stepped out of that alleyway, Leon and Arian broke into a mad sprint.
"Shit!!" Noticing this, alarms blew through his head. They were aware of him.
—woosh
He began speeding forward with all his might, he was a level 2 mage, catching up to them should be easy….and it was like that for a time.
Even with their head start and the countless people on the streets, he was able to get closer and closer to them, the difference in speed was apparent
it was only a matter of time before he got them….at least that was what he thought, until they got close to a bridge.....
There and then. One of them grabbed the other by the arm and….
—whoosh
She flew into the sky.....
"what the hell??!!" The faceless mercenary forced himself to stop and look over at the flying figures of both of them.
Flight?
That was a level 3 mage, it was definitely them who took their teammate.....this was embarrassing, the culprit had just walked past them in the alleyway and they did nothing.
"Hm? The other guy" the faceless mercenary, remembered that they were three, so he instinctively turned and rushed towards the inn.
Unfortunately, Gunta had also been given orders to pack up and move to another place….this chase was just another trick so they could disappear.
Leon and his friends had not only tricked him once but two times.
"Fuckers!!!!!" The faceless mercenary screamed at the top of his voice.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Meanwhile, on the opposite side of the river Leon and Arian floated down.
"Hehe, we made it" Leon smirked, the feeling of flight was amazing. Leon couldn't wait to gain this ability.
East of duan city, n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
The flight wasn't a small one, they had remained airborne for about 10 minutes and even crossed the border into the east of the city.
"Gunta should be making his way to the east in a few hours too. Let's make use of this time to do what we need to do." Leon said to Arian while dusting his clothes.
The faceless mercenary he captured had explained that the company didn't recruit in a normal way. Those who wished to join would go to designated locations and fight to the death with the participants there. Of course, each location had a power limit.
They didn't want level 2 mages bullying level 1 mages. After all, an appropriate distribution of levels is best for any organization. Having only level 2 mages was detrimental.
"So split up and meet later?" Arian asked Leon.
The location for the tests were different depending of power levels, so they would definitely need to split up for the duration of the test.
"Yh…. Good luck" Leon said before walking into an alleyway beside them. Arian frowned a little before gently floating upwards and zooming off in another direction.
Unlike Leon's test, hers was fairly easy. Even the faceless mercenary company would welcome any level 3 mage with open arms, she didn't even expect to meet anyone at her competition area.
But for Leon? It would be a bloodbath. They were countless level 1 mages that wanted to join the faceless mercenary company, and every single one was special in their own way. But she trusted Leon, if he couldn't emerge on top, she didn't know who could.
