Chapter 56 Misunderstanding
56 Misunderstanding
If Leon wanted the Purple Heart eternal flower, he would have to take it forcefully. But, could he achieve that with is present strength?
1
No, and Leon knew This very well. What he needed now was to increase his strength, he at least needed to be at level 3 before he could even think of proceeding.
"Umm, how can a place like this exist inside the royal capital?" From behind Leon, gunta questioned while covering his nose from the putrid smells from his environment.
This place was an alleyway next to a small river crossing, that wasn't the problem. The problem was the number of Warlocks and slaves here.
It seemed like this part of the city had been abandoned by the city because, there were no guards to even harass the Warlocks.
"It's not our problem, we are approaching..." Leon said to gunta while his eyes stayed glued to a house in front.
The house wasn't the usual rented apartments that were littered all over the city, it was a proper home, at least that was until it was abandoned. Now it looked like a hunted house.
"Crrr"
Leon pushed the old decrepent door, and it simply swung open, revealing the insides of the house. Then he and gunta proceeded to let themselves in.
"This can't be where he lives, right?" Gunta spoke quietly into Leon ear.
But of course Leon ignored him and entered the house. Amir had explained that their agreed meeting place wasn't his connect's home, but just a place they would meet when he was ready to cash in the favor.
"Hello!!"
Inside the main living Area of the house, Leon said loudly, trying to get the attention of Amir's connect. Amir had sent out a raven to let him know they would be meeting today, so by all means he should already be here.
"Hello!!" But no matter how loud Leon screamed, there was no reply. Maybe the man wasn't coming, or maybe after seeing that it wasn't Amir approaching, he decided to leave.
"Hmmm, gunta join me" Leon gently said to gunta with a sly smile on his face.
"Hello!!!!!!!!!"
"Hellooo!!!!!!!"
"Hellooooo!!!!"
They began screaming at the top of their voices, drawing the attention of everyone around the area.
(That place was usually quite, what could be happening? )
The passersby questioned.
"Shit, stop that!!"
From the ceiling beams of the old decrepent house, a voice resounded abruptly, forcing Leon and gunta to shut up.
"Hehe, finally decided to reveal yourself, huh?" Leon smiled.
At first, Leon thought there was no one there, but after looking around the house, he noticed a lot of hidden things. As if someone were trying to hide the fact that they were living in this building.
Immediately, Leon knew there was only one person that could be living here.
It was Amir's connect. He had lied about not living here to throw Amir off.
"Hello, I'm from Amir. He told me to seek you out, I would like to join your group" Leon bowed his head.
The members of the faceless mercenary company were veiled in secrecy, unlike the other groups that had members arresting people all over the city.
They dealt strictly in assassinations and sometimes guarded influential people.
"This isn't what I agreed to, the favor is for Amir not you!" In the shadows, a figure in black with a faceless mask harrumphed.
He was injured and Amir helped him, but he didn't appreciate his good will being outsourced to someone else. It was disrespectful.
"I implore you to accept honored sir, I promise I will be a good asset to your organisation," Leon said with a smile. Then he proceeded to pull out a jade necklace.
He was going to bribe the man. He knew that all men had their price and for this person to be living in this condition, he would be more open to monetary gains.
"Hm? "
However, contrary to Leon's belief, the young man wasn't moved by the necklace in the way he hoped. In fact, he had a look of fear on his face when he saw that necklace.
It had the Dalriss insignia on it.
Leon had taken this from the Tamlin group's camp. But this didn't matter to the man. There were two possibilities.
Leon stole it. That was number one possibility, if that was the case, then he would get into big trouble if he sold it openly, the second was that Leon might be connected to the Dalriss family in some way.
The dealbreaker was the second possibility. He couldn't have anything to do with the Dalriss family. In fact, the only reason he was staying in this dumb was because he had offended someone from the dalriss family.
—woosh
He didn't know if this was an ambush, he couldn't stay here for 1 more second.
"HM? What the…." Leon's eyes widened as he saw the man flashed from on top one of the beams of the house's ceiling and through the window.
He was running away!!
"I'll see you later" Leon's voice sounded as it immediately faded away. He couldn't let the man run away.
He followed right behind and jumped through the window.
—woosh
—Boom
Leon landed and quickly caught sight of the faceless mercenary turning a corner.
"Go!!" Leon dashed forward and took a detour through a preceding alleyway.
"Hm?" The faceless mercenary looked to his side as he noticed Leon's figure appear right behind him.
With that one move, Leon had shortened the distance between them by half. This was bad for the faceless mercenary.
—woosh
—woosh
—wiish
Leon and the man ran from alleyway to alleyway, from street to street, it was like a police officer chasing a thief. soon enough, they had completely left the area and were now running amok through the main city.
"Fucker!!" The faceless mercenary gritted his teeth. He had trusted his guts and was right, Leon was able to match him, he was at the very least a level 1 mage.
Why would the crippled Amir know a level 1 mage with this speed and skill? This was definitely the doing of his enemies.
"This guy is doing too much" Leon didn't understand why he was running away. Did he just hate the thought of helping Leon or what?
Both of them were unaware that this was just a misunderstanding. However, they were too deep into it now to stop and converse.
"Fade work: Wind apparitions"
The faceless mercenary activated a skill and not long after, his speed not only increased, apparitions of himself started fading into existence right beside him.
"Hm?," Leon saw this new change and frowned. The only way he had been able to keep up with this guy was because he could predict his body movements and plan ahead. n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
"Lumisight" Leon muttered.
He couldn't use any of the eyes capabilities like illusions and energy imaging. But these eyes were sharper and had better resolution than normal ones.
With just this he should be able to tell fake apart from what's real; however, this wasn't enough.
"Wind work: Wind arrows"
He was behind in a high-speed chase, but for some reason Leon seemed to have the upper hand here.
—puuuu
—puuuuu
—puuuu
Wind arrow after Wind arrow came flying towards the faceless mercenary, causing his apparitions to fade and his real body to dodge.
Slowly This move was devolving his apparitions spell.
"Damn it"
The faceless mercenary was now more than ever convinced that Leon was sent by the Dalriss family, if not, how did he know how to disable his spells so quickly?
"I can't let up" he continued running away and Leon kept chasing. Occasionally Leon's arrows would graze him, sometime he would stumble trying to dodge them.
One thing was certain though, he couldn't keep it up. He was getting desperate.
"Please come rescue me, I don't think I can keep this up any longer" the faceless mercenary screamed into a pin on his clothes.
He had no choice but to call in backup from the faceless mercenary company.
However, it was too late for that. If he had called them at the beginning of the race, then maybe they would have gotten here on time, but now he was weak and tired.
Eventually.
'Blood Serpent work : Anaconda Grip"
From behind, Leon used a warlock spell. The faceless mercenary first felt a force pressed up on his body, then it started tightening until
—Boom
He fell to the floor, nearly conscious.
"Sigh" Leon came to a slow stop beside his body.
"Haa haha haaa" the faceless mercenary breathed heavily from pure exhaustion.
It didn't seem like it, but this chase had gone on for about 2 hours, and it was deep at night.
Unlike Warlocks, mages had weaker physique, although they made up for it with their mastery over mana and a variety of spells.
Of course, that wouldn't save him now, his exhaustion was justified.
"Still won't give it up?" Leon bent down and looked straight into the slits of his eyes.
"I would rather die!!" The faceless mercenary gritted his teeth and spoke.
"Sigh!! I don't even understand why you're so adamant.... I guess I have no choice" Leon shook is head.
Then he grabbed the man by his leg and started pulling him on the cold, hard floor.
"Badur's gates" Leon muttered and a giant ominous metal gate appeared on one of the walls of the alley way.
—Dang!!!
The gate swung open and bathed the alleyway with negative energy. This immediately struck a cord in the heart of the faceless mercenary.
Fear!!!
Uncertainty!!!
Helplessness!!
He felt all these emotions at once. He couldn't even muster the strength to scream. He just laid there as Leon dragged him into the hellish gates.
