Chapter 18: Hunters must Hunt
Chapter 18: Hunters must Hunt
—Huuuu
The sound of wind blowing filled the tent as a young man seated cross-legged in the middle of the tent could be seen absorbing mana effortlessly.
The energy congregated around him and slowly sipped into his very essence. It didn't only seem to strengthen him, it also improved his general bodily functions.
"Sigh!!" but, After a while, the young man blew out a mouthful of fresh air and slacked his seating position. This was none other than Leon.
For the past few days, of being here, Leon had been trying his very best to break into Level 1, but it was to no avail. At first, he tried using his bloodline, but found out that it was too weak to even advance his strength.
The Warlocks depended on the purity of their bloodline to break through. The purer, the easier it was to accomplish this, and of course, different people start with different levels of purity. For those with good purity from birth it was smooth sailing until they reached their bottleneck, and for those with bad purity, their search to improve the purity of their blood would happen earlier.
"They didn't work..." Leon's eyes trailed to the table beside him. There, several bottles with residue of a red, murky liquid could be seen. One of the methods to improve the bloodline of Warlocks was by absorbing life energy from external sources. The healing potions were a good source for that cause. However, they weren't enough.
Leon now had to rely on mana to make even the slightest improvements. It wasn't as effective as life-energy, but in its absence he could only make due.
—Whoop
While Leon was seating in a state of total immersion, the curtains to the tent opened up and Arian walked in causally with a bowl of food in one hand and a loaf of bread in the other.
She went straight past Leon and sat on her bed, paying him no mind. However, not even a second after she had her seat, she heard a sound drawing her attention.
"Grrrrrr" this sound was coming from Leon's stomach. He was hungry.
"Sigh" Arian looked at Leon with some annoyance before tossing the loaf of bread in her hand to the ground he was seated on.
But Leon didn't seem to care about that. He raised his hands upwards, causing the chains around his wrists to dangle in front of Arian. He was hinting that he wanted to be released.
"Take them off" Leon said casually. In the oath that swore there were several clauses and requirements, for example, Leon had the opportunity to escape a total of 5 times. Him asking to be uncuffed signalled that he was going to attempt to escape, but then again, he could just choose to roam around, but it was a signal for Arian to stay alert.
—Clang
The chains fell to the ground, and Leon stood up and picked the loaf of bread from the floor.
"Hmmm" he immediately stuck it into his mouth hole while wandering around the tent like it was his personal seating room. His movements were causal and peaceful, but Arian couldn't help but cautiously keep an eye on him through the corners of her eyes.
"You're staring at me like a high-schooler with a crush....tell me, are you in love?"
All of a sudden, Leon looked over at Arian's corner eyes and said jokingly. This made Arian frown. High-schooler? What was that?
"Ah, yes, I forgot.....oh well, never mind" Leon said while walking causally towards Arian. "Boom" he sat right next to her, leaned in and said into her ear.
"Your people don't seem to like you very much, do they?"
Leon's words completely diverged from his original line of questioning. However, this didn't change the uncomfortable situation In the slightest. Leon's words struck a cord in her heart. His words were true.
In this camp, no one seemed to like her. From the different factions to even her team. They would barge in whenever they wanted and demand for the most absurd things, even going as far as trying to treat her like a servant.
Of course, in each of these instances she was able to chase them away very easily, but there was clearly a dislike in this camp she couldn't hide. For someone as prideful as her, it must be very annoying.
"Hmp!! Learn to mind your business" Arian snorted and picked up her sword holster before proceeding to walk out of the tent.
"Shit!!" Immediately after Arian did this, Leon tensed up and immediately started following behind her at full speed. Just as he was able to use the oath to his advantage, she was also able to do the same. One of the clauses of the Agreement stated that Leon had to be within at least 100 meters of her at all times when he's uncuffed, if not, it would be considered as him escaping.
As soon as they were a hundred meters apart she could go over and capture him, just like that, he would lose one of his chances to escape. He had to keep up.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Leon walked side by side with Arian, dodging tents and cages. And not too long after, they arrive at their destination. It was a massive tent, at least 10x the side of Arian's tent.
"Let's go" Arian walked inside the tent and Leon followed.
"No way!! We were the ones who cut those animals to this size, we did all the work, I won't let you guys steal our glory"
"If you call capturing their cows and low-level fighters cutting down, then sure!! But this isn't your fantasy world, and I'm not a whimp you can push around."
"You shit for brains!!!"
The sound of arguing filled the room as soon as Leon entered, he noticed the sheer number of people in this tent was huge. And in the middle of it was a big map.
It was a strategic war tent.
