Chapter 61: Main Mage
61 61 - Main Mage
But now, out of nowhere, an almost transparent fireball appeared because of the red filter they had in their eyes, which hit the fallen bird before anyone could do anything.
The Blessed were confused, except for Jasper who knew exactly who had shot that strange fireball that made the bird scream in agony for a few seconds before dying. During the Goblin Forest Fortress raid, he had noticed that Noah, for some reason, liked to cause the last attack on the goblins. Regardless of whether it was the Boss or a normal goblin, Noah always tried to make the last attack.
At first, Jasper just thought of it as some impulsiveness on Noah's part for wanting to make the last attack to say that it was he who killed the monster, but at no time had he done anything like that. He never even commented on this action that he always did, and that intrigued Jasper - even more so when he realized that no matter how many times Noah did this, he always had enough energy to do it one more time as if it were nothing.
It was necessary to know that when it came to Blessings, the stronger a skill was, the more energy it consumed. This was so true that it was common knowledge that when a Blessed person reached Rank A, they were able to carry out near continuous attacks with Rank F strength because of the large amount of energy they had which they had needed to develop to support the large load of energy that high ranked attacks had.
But strangely, it didn't apply to Noah. By the cry of the monsters, it wasn't even necessary to ask if his ability was powerful or not, but still, Noah managed to sustain that ability almost infinitely.
That was one of the main reasons for Jasper to think that Noah would definitely become famous and important in the future, not only from the current strength he had, but from the potential he displayed.
Finally, Jasper just dismissed this trait of Noah's where he always caused the last attack on the monsters as simply him liking it and mainly done simply because he could, since, unlike the other Blessed Ones who couldn't endure using attacks very often, Noah could do whatever he wanted.
Noah already knew very well that it had nothing to do with what Jasper was guessing, but he was not stupid enough to explain that he recovered energy when he burned monsters and that he always made the last attack in order to get more exp from the monsters he killed.
"Noah, let Jasper do it again. You will deal with the next group. We can't take any chances now. Use your flames to attack just like the backline!" Marcel shouted at Noah not to try to take the boar down this time so he wouldn't risk ruining everything. Even more after he saw that Noah was a powerful wizard, in his head it would be more advantageous for the group that he would be attacking from a distance.
Noah did not object to the order and simply stood near the backline holding the dagger in one hand while, in the palm of his other hand, a small flame levitated just waiting to be launched.
He didn't care that the group thought he would be useless even though he knew he could certainly handle this task for Jasper much more easily because of [Hell Tunneling], but different from the [Hell Flames], teleportation used up energy and had no way of recovering it. For the distance he was from the bird, he would have to run closer to the bird before teleporting into the air and taking the boar down with a surprise attack.
Noah could do that, but he was too lazy. Yes, after thinking about how problematic it would be to run towards the bird at high speed, Noah found it much easier to stay in the group and just throw fireballs at the bird and the boar. Even more, his control over [Hell Flames] had increased when the skill reached level 2. Noah wanted to test his aim against moving targets and use that opportunity to test himself as well.
Just like the other time, Jasper ran at high speed because of his Blessing that increased his agility, and after using a tree as a support, he jumped into the path that the bird was flying and intercepted the boar just like a football player intercepts a player of the other team but without trying to cling to the boar.
Seeing the big blue animal falling from the sky, Noah saw the perfect opportunity, and with a quick mental trajectory calculation, Noah launched a fireball at great speed toward the point where he calculated that the boar would fall.
Unfortunately, when the fireball was approaching the falling boar, Noah noticed that he had miscalculated. Even if his "intelligence" statistic had become 20% higher after he moved up to level 02, enabling Noah to make calculations like this now, that before would have been impossible for him in such a short period of time, it still wasn't yet enough. Apparently, he still needed more points in this statistic to be able to process information, thoughts, and calculations as fast as was necessary even though he didn't really notice the difference that happened to him because of the level up.
If the fireball continued in the direction it was going, it would miss the boar by a few centimeters, so using the superior control he had after raising the skill to level 02, Noah concentrated a lot and tried to change the trajectory of the fireball in mid-flight, just like Abigail did with her arrows using the Blessing of Wind that she had. She was the one responsible for Noah having the idea of ??trying to do this with his Blessing as well, since in the last Fortress he saw how useful the ability was to allow anyone to almost always hit a target.
Noah realized that he was actually able to change the trajectory of the fireball while it had already been launched, but the amount of energy expended was colossal. To change the angle of the fireball's flight by just a few degrees, Noah spent energy equivalent to conjuring three more fireballs, that is, he could make it a slightly "guided" fireball but the one he would manipulate would end up using up as much energy as four normal fireballs.
Noah felt that this was not worth it, since perhaps it would be better for him to just throw another fireball instead, but when he saw the fireball hitting the boar in full before it hit the ground, making its skin slightly more fragile in the fraction of a second before it hit the ground, a message then appeared floating in a familiar black window that said he had earned 5 exp points: 3 more than what he earned by killing the angry bird that had been hurt by his teammates of his team, so he felt it was slightly worth it.
Since he was breaking into a Fortress with a group, the amount of exp he received for some reason was diluted. This was something that puzzled Noah a lot. Since nobody but himself had a system, he didn't feel it made any sense, but he could not do anything about it unless he looked for alternative ways to get more exp, that is, by causing more damage and being the person to deliver the last blow.
The Blessed melee fighters were already running towards the wild boar that fell from the bird in order to end its life before it recovered and might cause even more problems for the group. But as they approached, they were all shocked to see that that wild boar that was screaming desperately while they ran in his direction, actually was already dead from a fireball when they had arrived.
They were surprised at first that the young boy who recently joined their party managed to hit the boar in motion, and that the strength that his Blessing possessed was much greater than they could even imagine.
Leaving that thought for later, they turned to go back and help the backline deal with the angry bird, but when they turned, like the boar a few seconds ago, the bird's body was also on fire as it writhed in pain and screamed desperately on the floor apparently begging for help.
When Marcel looked at the people on the backline, he saw that without exception, all of them, both the mages and the archers, had a shocked expression on their faces while they were frozen in an attack position, as if they were preparing to attack a formidable enemy. Yet, that enemy had just disappeared somewhere unknown, leaving them unsure what to do now.
Only, instead of the enemy disappearing in truth, the enemy they were concerned about dealing with was there, screaming in pain and letting go of its anger, simply begging for help for anyone. Some of the more fragile hearted Blessed Ones even felt a little sorry for the poor monster. Just hearing its screams was capable of making them feel at least a little of the suffering he was going through trying to endure those strange flames.
Marcel was the leader of the group, so he knew he had to make the wisest decision for the group's needs. Regardless of whether someone in the group felt hurt by him, angry, or something else, because he made the decisions, he would shoulder the consequences of giving orders, but he felt this was a unique opportunity that he could not waste. He, as a Blessed Rank B, saw Noah as a high ranked Blessed too, who had a lot of potential to be the best wizard in their group. So without thinking twice, he gave the order, "Noah, from now on you are the main mage of the group. Jasper will be the only one in charge of attracting the monsters; we cannot waste your talent."
Hearing what Marcel said, Jasper's face instantly lost color as he mentally screamed, 'THIS IS NOT HIS TRUE TALENT. HE HAS MORE TALENT THAN I DO AT MY JOB!!!!'
Unfortunately for Jasper, Marcel had no idea how well Noah could truly fill the role of knocking boars off the birds' backs.
