Chapter 97
97 A Little Too Late
A black 4WD was seen pulling over in the parking spot. Then, four handsome boys alighted, attracting a few passersby. The boys’ height and the handsome look became the talk among the onlookers.
However, as the boys were used to this scenario, none of them paid any attention to the people around them.
Zhang Yi Hai looked up at the signboard and his lips pursed into a thin line.
“Brother, you’re generous,” Wei Zi Kai spoke as he stood beside his cousin. “I didn’t think that you would be this kind to treat us to a lunch here.”
Zhang Yi Hai did not speak a word. He came over to this restaurant with the triplets, knowing that his sister would be having a reunion with her classmates.
He had given his sister an hour. Rather than letting Mu Zhen Yu find a chance to get close to his sister, Zhang Yi Hai decided to show up and pick up his sister.
“Come on, let’s go in.” Zhang Yi Hai waved his hand at the triplets before he led them in.
The server greeted him at the door and ushered the group of four to a private room as per requested.
As they walked along the corridor, Zhang Yi Hai couldn’t help but look all around, hoping that he could find out his sister’s whereabouts.
.....
They walked past a large private room just in time for someone to push the door to come out. Coincidentally, the person was a good friend of Zhang Li Xue, Zhou Tong.
Their gazes met and Zhou Tong immediately recognized the person in front of her.
“You are... Li Xue’s younger brother?” Zhou Tong pointed her finger at the tall man.
Because of her close relationship with Zhang Li Xue, Zhou Tong had met Zhang Yi Hai a few times and could recognize him immediately.
Zhang Yi Hai studied the woman in front of him with uncertainty. “You... are a friend of my sister?” The person in front of him seemed familiar, yet not so familiar at the same time. Zhang Yi Hai thought that it was because of her makeup.
“Brother,” Wei Zi Ming raised his brow. “Is this someone you know?”
Zhou Tong glanced at the triplets before turning to Zhang Yi Hai again. “Hello,” the smile on her face widened. “I’m not sure if you remember me. I’m Zhou Tong. Your sister and I used to play basketball together.”
Now that she had introduced herself, Zhang Yi Hai realized that the person in front of him was quite familiar. “Hello.” Zhang Yi Hai greeted politely.
“Zhou Tong, why are you standing at the door?”
Hearing the Class Monitor’s voice, Zhou Tong quickly turned around. “Class Monitor, Mu Zhen Yu. It’s nothing. I ran into someone I know.”
Zhang Yi Hai heard the name Zhou Tong had called and his expression began to change. He shifted his gaze and sure enough, that big fly, Mu Zhen Yu was at the restaurant.
“Who is it?” The Class Monitor asked.
“Zhang Yi Hai?” It was Mu Zhen Yu who spoke. His gaze then shifted to the triplets who came with the boy. Then, a faint smile curled on his lips.
Mu Zhen Yu seemed to have understood the reason Zhang Yi Hai would show up at the restaurant where they were having a reunion. After all, it was not the first time that something like this had happened.
Years ago, Zhang Yi Hai would often show up each time he was with his sister.
“Are you looking for your sister?” Mu Zhen Yu asked. He did not wait for the boy to answer before he spoke again. “But, I think you’re a little too late. Your sister left five minutes ago.”
Zhou Tong and the Class Monitor nodded enthusiastically. “That’s right.”
“My sister left?” Zhang Yi Hai frowned. This was not something that he had expected. Zhang Yi Hai thought that his sister would stay around until the end of the event.
“Uh-huh.” Zhou Tong spoke. “She received a call from a friend and said that there’s an emergency.”
Zhang Yi Hai glanced at Mu Zhen Yu and saw the man shrugged. Seeing the smile on the man’s face made him feel annoyed.
“Then, thank you.” Zhang Yi Hai nodded before he led the triplets to the private room.
The frown on his face deepened as he thought of what Zhou Tong had said.
His sister had an emergency?
Which friend?
Fang Su Jin?
Zhang Yi Hai could not help but worry about his sister.
...
Meanwhile, the person that Zhang Yi Hai was worrying about had arrived at the apartment near the hospital.
Zhang Li Xue pulled over her car before checking at the address a few more times. Once she was sure that this was indeed the address that Bai Xi Xi had given her, Zhang Li Xue alighted from the vehicle and climbed up the stairs.
A slight frown appeared on her face as she looked at the surroundings. Thinking that the little girl had to live alone at this place whenever her brother was working made her worry. Zhang Li Xue did not know whether the place is secure enough for Bai Xi Xi.
After looking around for a while, Zhang Li Xue finally found the apartment that Bai Xi Xi had mentioned. She pressed the doorbell and cupped her ear on the door, hoping to hear what was going on inside.
The door opened to a small slit and a drenched Bai Xi Xi appeared at the door. Relief flashed on her face when she saw the pretty sister at the door.
“Pretty sister!” Bai Xi Xi called.
“Xi Xi, are you alright?” Zhang Li Xue asked, anxiously. She wanted to look at the little girl, but could not see much through the small gap.
“Hold on.” Bai Xi Xi closed the door to unchain the security chain lock. A few seconds later, the door opened again. “Sister, please come in.”
The moment Zhang Li Xue entered the house, she could hear the sound of water coming from the bathroom. She closed the door behind her, took off her shoes, and went straight toward the source of the sound.
Just as Bai Xi Xi had mentioned, the bathroom was flooded and the water continued to flow from the sink. Zhang Li Xue looked around the place and finally spotted the main valve to the water source. With her height, Zhang Li Xue reached to turn off the master valve, and soon, the water from the sink stopped flowing.
A breath of relief escaped her as the sound of water stopped. However, her mind went blank for a few seconds when she saw the water all around her.
