Chapter 72
72 Meeting Mu Zhen Yu
“Mommy, I’m going out.” Zhang Li Xue shouted out as she walked over to the door.
Li Qin Yao was in the middle of arranging some documents on the table when she heard her daughter’s voice. She looked up and saw that the girl was dressed up nicely. “Li Xue, where are you going.”
“Just... meeting some friends to catch up.” Zhang Li Xue lowered her gaze, hoping that her mother would not ask her about the person she was going to meet.
She did not want to lie to her mother. But when she tells her mother the truth, Zhang Li Xue was worried that her mother was going to talk to her father about it. Later, her father would definitely ask questions that she would prefer not to answer.
Fortunately for Zhang Li Xue, her mother was too preoccupied with other matters in her mind and she had not asked further.
“That’s right. Just now, your Uncle Mu Bai called. He said that he would come over and stay in Y City for a few days.”
“Uncle Mu Bai is coming alone?”
“No. He’ll bring your Auntie Bei with him.”
Zhang Li Xue nodded. Then, she recalled that she had helped her mother to look for some documents for her Uncle Mu Bai last week.
.....
“Mommy, are they here for that development project?”
“Uh-huh.” Li Qin Yao nodded. “It seemed that they have really decided to take over that development project. This time, they are coming to discuss some business matters. In the future, perhaps they would often visit the city for that project.”
Zhang Li Xue thought of the project that her uncle was interested in.
The notification on her phone snapped her out of her trance. “Mommy, I’m late. I’m leaving now.” She kissed her mother on the cheek before running to the door.
This week, her brother was not at home. However, Zhang Li Xue was still worried that she would run into her father.
Once she slid into her AUDI and started the engine, Zhang Li Xue finally let out a breath of relief.
As the vehicle entered the main road, Zhang Li Xue began to question herself why should she be scared if the others knew that she went out to meet Mu Zhen Yu.
The two of them were friends and nothing else.
There was nothing wrong about old friends meeting and catching up, right?
After convincing herself with her thoughts, Zhang Li Xue began to feel more at ease.
The drive to the place where she will be meeting Mu Zhen Yu was around twenty minutes from her parents’ house.
Zhang Li Xue found a parking spot and walked over to the coffee shop called Coffee Sanctuary.
Seeing that Mu Zhen Yu had not arrived, Zhang Li Xue picked a seat in the corner and ordered a cup of caramel latte.
She checked her phone and decided to give the man around ten minutes before she was going to text him.
The server sent her order. Zhang Li Xue took a sip of her coffee while looking through her emails.
A shadow loomed over her.
Noticing that someone was standing beside her, Zhang Li Xue looked up and was surprised to see that Mu Zhen Yu had arrived. Her eyes widened as she stared at the man with a dazed expression.
“Sorry. I’m late. There was a little bit of traffic on my way here,” Mu Zhen Yu spoke. He flashed a smile and continued, “I hope you didn’t wait for long.”
Zhang Li Xue snapped out of her trance. “No. It hasn’t been long.” She motioned towards the seat. “Brother Zhen Yu, have a seat.” Then, she called for the server to take the order from Mu Zhen Yu.
Mu Zhen Yu ordered black coffee and the server went back to prepare the order.
“I haven’t seen you for years,” Mu Zhen Yu spoke. “Little Li Xue, you have grown up a lot.”
Zhang Li Xue laughed. “Brother Zhen Yu, you’ve grown a lot too. I almost did not recognize you at the banquet.”
“Really?”
“Un. How do I say this? I think you look more like an adult now.”
Mu Zhen Yu smiled. The last time they were separated, they had only graduated from high school. After years has passed, teenagers had now entered the adults’ life.
“I heard from my mother that you were going into your family’s business,” Mu Zhen Yu said. The server returned with his order. Mu Zhen Yu thanked the server before taking a sip of his black coffee.
“Hmm... I grew up following my father around whenever he traveled around for work. I think this hotel business is good and decided to give it a try.” Zhang Li Xue stirred the caramel in her drink and looked up. “Brother Zhen Yu, what about you? We didn’t keep in contact after you moved away. Is the life in G Country really interesting?”
Mu Zhen Yu shrugged. “It’s not that bad. However, because I’m not proficient in their language, I had to work especially hard. The people around there were not very friendly. But, their university is good.”
Zhang Li Xue continued to listen as Mu Zhen Yu told her about his life in G Country.
When Mu Zhen Yu moved away, he went alone.
Zhang Li Xue thought that going overseas alone at that age was quite a scary thing. She could not help but look up to Mu Zhen Yu. In her memory, Mu Zhen Yu had always been a brave person ever since they were a little kid.
“Brother Zhen Yu, now that you have returned to Y City, what are you planning to do?” Zhang Li Xue asked. “Are you planning to take over your family’s business?”
“My parents have been urging me to start working in the company and learn the business,” Mu Zhen Yu said. “But, I am more interested in starting my own company. I met a few good friends and we decided to work together.” As he spoke, Mu Zhen Yu continued to look at the girl, as he was observing her reaction.
However, Zhang Li Xue did not seem to notice his gaze.
“It won’t be easy to start your own company. But Brother Zhen Yu, I believe that you can do it.”
