Chapter 68
68 Mu Zhen Yu’s Text Message
Zhang Li Xue was walking down the stairs when she saw that her mother was sorting out something from the store. She walked over and peeked behind her mother’s shoulder.
“Mommy, what are you doing?”
Li Qin Yao turned around and sighed. “I was looking for some documents that your Uncle Mu Bai wanted. It has been so many years. I have forgotten where I have placed it.”
“What sort of documents? Mommy, why don’t you let me help you?”
“The company is planning to acquire some properties on the east side of the city,” Li Qin Yao said. “I’ve mentioned it to him before but at that time, the company was focusing on a large project in Capital City. A few days ago, there was news that the developers were on the brink of bankruptcy. Your Uncle Mu Bai was considering buying that land.”
Zhang Li Xue continued to listen to her mother talking about the property business in silence.
Her maternal family was mostly involved in the property and development business. Once upon a time, her mother too was working for the company. Then, her mother decided to let her cousin, Li Mu Bai manage the company while she stayed in Y City to focus on her family.
Zhang Li Xue helped her mother to pull out a few boxes from the shelf. As her mother went to check on one box, Zhang Li Xue went to check on the others.
She peeked inside the box and saw that there were a few stacks of documents inside.
.....
Noticing that the logo on the paper seemed a little familiar, Zhang Li Xue pulled out the documents and looked at them. “Mommy, is this the one you were looking for?”
Li Qin Yao took the stack of paper from her daughter and inspected it. “It seemed like it. I’ll go and check with your Uncle Mu Bai first.”
Zhang Li Xue nodded. She peeked into the box again to look for any similar documents but found none. Her hand paused when she realized that she was holding an old album.
Seeing that her mother was still on the phone, Zhang Li Xue pulled out the old album to take a look.
Her eyes widened in surprise when she saw that the album was filled with her photos during childhood.
Zhang Li Xue browsed through those pictures and chuckled.
It seemed that she was adorable when she was younger. Seeing how she often styled her hair in twin tails made her laugh.
After looking for a while, Zhang Li Xue found a picture of her during kindergarten. There was a picture of her with Fang Su Jin and a girl that she could no longer remember.
However, she seemed to remember that they were quite close in the past.
Her lips turned to a faint smile.
She flipped to the next page and saw another picture of her with Fang Su Jin. They were both wearing pretty dresses. Looking at the decoration in the background, it seemed that they were both performing some song for the kindergarten anniversary.
Zhang Li Xue took out her phone and snapped a photo. She planned to send it to Fang Su Jin later and tease her.
She was about to close the album when her eyes caught the sight of a tree not far away behind her and Fang Su Jin.
No. That was wrong.
It wasn’t really a tree. It was a child, dressed up as a tree.
‘But, I am only a tree...’
A young boy’s voice rang in her head, startling her.
Why do these words sound familiar?
Zhang Li Xue narrowed her eyes to look at the boy but failed. He was standing too far for her to see his face.
However, her instinct told her that she should have known this boy. A deep frown appeared on her face as she tried to recall the person’s name.
“Li Xue, your uncle said this is the documents.”
Her mother’s voice snapped her out of her thoughts. Zhang Li Xue closed the album and put it back into the box. She looked at her mother and smiled. “Really? That’s good.”
“Help me to scan the papers and send them over to your Uncle Mu Bai, alright?”
Zhang Li Xue took the papers from her mother and nodded. “Un. I know.”
Worried that her uncle might be in a hurry, Zhang Li Xue went straight to her father’s office to use the computer.
Her phone on the table buzzed as she was arranging the files.
Thinking that it was probably Fang Su Jin, Zhang Li Xue quickly check on the message. Her brow rose when she saw an unknown number.
She clicked on the message and halted.
‘Xiao Li Xue, it’s me, Mu Zhen Yu. This is my new number. Are you free this weekend? Why don’t we go out for lunch?”
Zhang Li Xue reread the message over and over again.
She has been looking forward to Mu Zhen Yu’s message after meeting him at his banquet not too long ago. However, after a few weeks has passed, she had thought that the man would be too busy and no longer anticipate his message or calls.
Zhang Li Xue did not think that Mu Zhen Yu would send her a message now.
Her fingers hovered over her phone screen. Zhang Li Xue wondered how should she reply to Mu Zhen Yu’s text message.
She did miss him a little and was curious about his life overseas. They haven’t talked for years. There should be a lot for them to talk about.
After pondering for a while, Zhang Li Xue began to compose her text.
‘Sorry. I’m not free this weekend. I already made an appointment with someone else. How about the next one?’
She pressed the sent button and waited anxiously.
Zhang Li Xue had just sent the email to her Uncle Mu Bai when her phone buzzed again.
It was Mu Zhen Yu.
‘Alright. Let’s meet next weekend. I will text you the place.’
