Chapter 61
61 Why Don’t You Stay?
Bai Qi was discussing something with his mentor when he noticed someone was coming over. He looked up and saw an elder woman, walking over.
He stood up immediately and waited to be introduced.
“Bai Qi, this is my wife.” Qi Zheng stretched his hand and waited until his wife put her palm into his. “Yun Shu, this is my student, Bai Qi.”
“Madam Qi, hello,” Bai Qi greeted politely. He stretched his hand to hand over the bouquet. “I pick this up on my way over. I hope you like this.”
Yun Shu’s eyes lit up when she saw the bouquet of tulips. “Thank you. You’re so thoughtful. Coincidentally, the tulip is my favorite flower.” She turned around and called the auntie to help her put the flowers into a vase.
She turned to Bai Qi again and asked him a few questions about himself.
Previously, she had heard from her husband about the student he wanted to recruit under his wing.
Her husband met Bai Qi during their mission to the northern side of the country.
That year, there was a massive earthquake.
.....
Qi Zheng decided to join a few other doctors from his hospital to assist those who were affected. It was on this trip that he met with Bai Qi. He saw that the boy had some skills and decided to take him into his wing.
Initially, Bai Qi hesitated. Qi Zheng was a doctor that he had looked up to. However, Bai Qi had his own idea and had not thought of transferring to another hospital. It was only after hearing that Qi Zheng was from Y City that Bai Qi had agreed.
Yun Shu was surprised to hear that Bai Qi used to stay in Y City during his childhood.
As the three of them were chatting, Zhang Li Xue appeared in the living room with three kids with her.
Qi Yang was saying something to his brother and little sister, causing them to laugh. Seeing that their father waved his hand, the three siblings walked over obediently.
“Bai Qi, these are my children.” He pointed his hand at his children and introduced them. “This is Qi Yang, the eldest son. Yun Tian, the second, and Qi Yue, my daughter.”
The three siblings greeted Bai Qi politely when their father introduced them.
Seeing his kids being so sensible made him smile.
“Doctor Qi, your children are so young,” Bai Qi commented.
Qi Zheng coughed. “Well, I got married a little late.” He shifted his gaze and noticed that Zhang Li Xue stood at the side with her bag. “Li Xue, where are you going?”
Zhang Li Xue adjusted her bag straps on her shoulder and turned to the Qi couple.
“Uncle Qi Zheng, Auntie Yun, I’m going to head back first.” She lifted the paper bag in her hand and smiled. “Auntie Yun, thank you for the cakes.”
“You’re leaving now?” Qi Zheng looked at the girl in surprise.
“Un.” Zhang Li Xue nodded. “I only stop by to send over some things from my mommy. I better get home early before she would worry.”
“Stay over for lunch,” Yun Shu said. “I already cooked a lot today.”
“Your Auntie Yun is right,” Qi Zheng chirped in. “Li Xue, join us for lunch. Your Auntie Yun made some fried chicken wings as well.”
The corner of her lips began to twitch. Recently, Zhang Li Xue began to realize that her Uncle Qi Zheng liked to tempt her to a meal using her favorite chicken wings.
Although she liked chicken wings, she was not crazy about them.
However, she had to admit that Auntie Yun’s fried chicken wings are delicious. The skin was crispy and the meat was tender and juicy. With one bite, the meat would fall off the bones easily.
Zhang Li Xue found herself in a conflict.
“This... it won’t be appropriate, right?” Zhang Li Xue spoke. “Uncle Qi Zheng, this is the first time you’re inviting your student for a meal.”
“You’re a family member. There should not be any problem,” Qi Zheng said. As if he had thought of something, Qi Zheng turned to Bai Qi and spoke, “Bai Qi, do you mind if I let my niece join us as well?”
“I don’t mind.” Bai Qi lowered his gaze. He would be very happy if the girl would stay longer. It would give him the chance to know her a little better and figure out what she was up to after he had left.
In Zhang Li Xue’s opinion, Bai Qi was Qi Zheng’s student and he would not dare to go against his mentor’s words. Therefore, his agreement was invalid.
“Sister Li Xue,” Qi Yue tugged at her sleeve. “Why don’t you stay? Later, you can help me with my school project. I want your opinion.”
Seeing the little girl’s round, pleading eyes made her heart grow soft.
Just like that, Zhang Li Xue had agreed to stay for the meal.
As Qi Zheng chatted with Bai Qi in the living room, Zhang Li Xue went into the kitchen to help her Auntie Yun to prepare a few more items for their lunch.
Once everything was ready, she helped to carry the plate to the dining room ad sat down.
Bai Qi was in the middle of listening to his mentor’s experience in conducting some surgery when he noticed that someone was seated beside him.
He turned around and was surprised to find that Zhang Li Xue next to him.
Some air entered the wrong windpipe, causing him to cough.
Zhang Li Xue helped to pour him a glass of water and stared back at him with worry. “Are you alright?”
Bai Qi took the glass and drank slowly. He took a few deep breaths to calm down and paused when he noticed her hand rested on his shoulder.
He shifted his gaze away and told himself to be calm. “I’m fine.”
It was only a hand on his shoulder. This was a normal gesture between friends.
Bai Qi looked away and reminded himself not to think too much.
