Chapter 141 Journey To The North (9) The First Town
The first town from the south within the Astellia Kingdom's territory, is the Cankarusa town. Since it's the nearest town in distance from the city of mercenaries and merchants of Arkansas, the size of the town is rather big and as lively as the city of Arkansas.
But unlike the city of Arkansas, you wouldn't be seeing mercenaries waiting and standing all over the place. Replacing the mercenaries, there are the guards and knights wandering around the place with their full-plate and uniform armor and swords hanging on their hips.
But other than that, the town is very lively even if it's not as lively as the city of Arkansas. Looking at the setting of the town, a smile blooms on Lyan's face.
(Now this is an RPG vibe town!) (Lyan)
Lyan rejoiced when he saw the town that is similar to how he pictured an RPG-like medieval time inside his head.
(First is lodging and food... Let's take the most comfortable inn and have a blast sleeping. Then next is sightseeing around the town and-) (Lyan)
As Lyan is wandering about his plans for the day in the town peacefully, a certain existence forcefully ruins the peace and made his eyebrows twitch.
"Huh? What are you looking at, girl? Heh. You look rather great, want to do it once with me?" A brawny man approached a girl with a silver hair.
"Huh? You're the one looking at me, idiot," The girl replied harshly as her fierce-looking face twitched in displease. Her angry look looks threatening, but the man did not sense any murderous intent from her.
The man snorted.
"Quite a brave one, aren't you? But it looks like I'm going to need to teach you some manners first-" As the man uttered with a smirk appearing on his face, suddenly he stopped in the middle of his words and his eyes went blank. Of course, it's Lyan's illusion and mind magic in action. With a single tap on the back with considerable force and an infuse of his illusion magic, Lyan forcefully hid the consciousness of the mercenary temporarily.
"What are you doing, Griselda? Don't draw unnecessary attention, would you?" Lyan uttered while expressing his annoyance towards the silver-haired woman.
"He's the one who stares at me first, yet he dares to lie saying that I'm staring at him. He's definitely thinking of doing some vulgar things in his head anyway, it's better to give him a lesson or two," Griselda snorted.
*Sigh!*
After his departure from the Bruinsan village to the north, heading for the Astellia Kingdom. In the middle of the road, the great spirits demand the start of their new agreement, which is to summon a single spirit in a day.
(But why should Griselda be the one who got summoned first...? Well, I accepted the terms, so I can't really say anything about it, though...) (Lyan)
The agreement and selection for the order are, of course, chosen by playing a game inside the grimoire's space. They play a single simple game of cards that got shuffled by Azelia which has the most least potential of cheating, unlike Lilith and Griselda. Arturia got slightly irritated by the fact that she Lilith and Hestia are holding some suspicions about her even though she won't cheat, while the other great spirits went along with the game normally.
And after playing the game that was chosen for the most based-on-luck game, Griselda somehow got the first place. She shouts her victory cry loud enough to make Lyan feel a great vertigo for a moment.
"Why do I have to face her as the first one...? The difficulty is too hard, though...?" Lyan uttered under his breath.
"Huh? Did you say something?" (Griselda)
"Nothing. Well, since you only have about two and half hours left. Feel free to go around the town, but make sure not to get yourself into a fight and make trouble. I'll be-" (Lyan)
"Huh? What are you saying? The whole point of the daily summoning agreement is for us to stand by and protect you from unwanted danger, right? And it's also to make sure that we could form a good communication with each other. What is the point of making the agreement if we ended up separating from each other?" (Griselda)
(Ugh... That's a sound argument...) (Lyan)
Lyan that realized his plan of making Griselda leave him alone to enjoy his travel leisurely failed by Griselda's rational reasoning.
(I guess she's not the knight commander for nothing. But damn she's as a ferocious as a lioness) (Lyan)
Lyan has a great interest in strong women, especially those who have a pair of unwavering eyes. But a woman that is too ferocious and strong like Griselda is a little bit too much energy-consuming. Lyan could only let out a heavy sigh every time he witness her scowls and glares.
"You're right. I'm interested in that library over there, you want to follow me?" Lyan pointed at the bookstore that does not exist in the Bruinsan village or the city of Arkansas.
"Hm? Books, huh? That's damn boring. I guess you could tend and protect yourself, right? I guess wandering around at the town after a while might be fine, I want to try my power at the monsters in the forest nearby as well. So let's split up," Griselda declared and left while leaving some lightning sparks behind.
"What happened to the protection and the forming a good communication part, huh...?" Lyan uttered with a wry smile.
But this is a good chance. Lyan that realized that soon make a satisfied smile.
By the agreement, the other spirits won't be looking at the television and wouldn't be able to see or hear what they are doing in order to protect privacy. But since Griselda had gone to wander around by herself, it means that he will be having some real alone time for a while.
"It's the first time I'm going to a library, I'm a little bit excited, I guess," (Lyan)
There's the case with the Scholar's Inn owned by Jessica the innkeeper, but it's more of an inn rather than a library despite of the large number of books being stored inside. So this will be the first time Lyan visits a real library in this world.
"Hm~ This is really relaxing..." Lyan uttered in satisfaction as the scent of bibliosmia entered his nostrils, calming his state of mind, and entering to a learning mode.
Inside the library is not something grand. As he entered, a skinny man with a glasses that seems to be one of the librarians stood and greets him.
"Welcome to the Library of Cankarusa town. Are you here to read or to borrow a book, mister?" The man asked friendlily.
"Ah... I'll be only reading here," (Lyan)
"I see. Feel free to read the books on all of the shelves. Please make sure not to damage the books and return them to the place where they are taken. Have a good time," The man once again bows.
Lyan nods and went to browse through the shelves inside the library.
The library size is just a little bit bigger than the category of small. As Lyan browse through the shelves and saw the books one by one, he could understand that the books that are mostly stored inside are just any basic learning of any knowledge, stories of fairy tales, poems, and songs of bards.
There are some necessary basic knowledge books about the world that piqued Lyan's interest since he hasn't read them yet, but there are no books with great quality like the one he found at the Scholar's Inn like the 'Book of Curse and Magic' and other books that he found there.
(Well, it's just a town, after all. I wonder if there will be any rare books that I could find in the capital city. I guess I have another thing to look forward to in the future, huh?) (Lyan)
As Lyan got immersed in reading the stacks of books he put beside him, two hours passed in a blink without him noticing. Inside the library, there are only about two other people that were also reading, so it quieter and more tranquil, making Lyan got easier to get too absorbed by the books and forgot about time.
"Ah... There are no hour bells in this town like the Arkansas city so I lose my track of time. I wonder where Griselda-" Before Lyan could finish his words.
*Rumble!*
The sound of a thunderclap and rumbles of lightning suddenly appeared from the distance.
"Speak about the devil," (Lyan)
