Chapter 187 - The Stupidest Man On Earth (1)
Shen Zichen watched as his wife got dressed, getting ready to go back to work at Li Corporation. He was a bit worried about Li Chuntao's plan and didn't like the fact that she would be using herself as bait to trick Yao Qigang and Lin Meirong at the same time.
Although they managed to pinpoint the two as the masterminds behind Li Xiuying's accident, there wasn't any conclusive evidence to pin them for their crimes. It was surprising how Director Yao managed to get such connections and could almost get away from the sin he and Lin Meirong committed.
The thought of knowing these people were able to kill Ying using underhanded methods almost made Li Chuntao's eyes bleed red from rage, but she knew better not to confront them blindly or else she might meet the same end as her twin sister.
This was why Li Chuntao needed to step up her game and trick Lin Meirong to provide the evidence she needed to incriminate them for their wrongdoings. Lin Meirong couldn't possibly stay still and won't do anything once the news about Ying recovering her memories reaches her ears.
Li Chuntao was sure that Li Yuren purposely allowed himself to lose the bet he made with her. Now that they knew who the culprit behind Li Xiuying's death was, it was time to hunt and trap their prey. And since her personal affairs had already been settled, it was time for Li Chuntao to resume her plans.
Li Chuntao decided that she wanted to startle the snakes in their nest. She would cause discord between Yao Qigang and Lin Meirong until they decided to turn against each other. By going back to Li Corporation as Li Xiuying, she would establish her presence again as her deceased twin sister.
"Chuntao, are you sure this is what you want?" Shen Zichen asked as he sat on the edge of their bed, watching her brushing her hair into a sleek ponytail to finish her look.
Now that she was his wife, of course, his concern about her safety was naturally multiplied. What if Lin Meirong schemed against Li Chuntao this time and caused her to suffer the same fate as Ying? Shen Zichen would never be able to continue to live if he lost her for good.
Li Chuntao looked at her husband's reflection in the mirror and sighed. She put down her hairbrush and went to him. Wrapping her arms around his shoulder, she allowed him to settle her on his legs.
"There's no need for you to overthink, Zichen. Uncle Yuren has assigned more bodyguards to me while we stalk Lin Meirong and Yao Qigang's movements. It won't be easy for them to harm me."
Still, Shen Zichen didn't like any of these but he also knew he couldn't stop her if that was what she wanted. He was the one who planted this revenge seed in her anyway, so he was partly responsible for it.
He might be a Young Master of the Shen family, but in reality, it was just an empty title that never held value to him. As the successor of the Shen family, his younger sister, Shen Lingqing, had the absolute power to utilize their family's resources.
Should he ask his sister for another favor? Shen Zichen shook his head. He felt useless at this moment.
He pushed his worries out of his head and drew Li Chuntao closer. He could feel her heartbeat against his chest as he held her tightly. His arms encircled around her, effectively caging her. With his head dipped, his lips touched the hollowness of her neck and could smell the subtle hint of her cologne.
He heard her sighed and felt her rest her head over his shoulder.
"I'll be fine, Zichen. Trust me on this."
There's no doubt that he trusted her. However, he was worried that those people who harmed Ying would go to a greater extent to harm Chuntao as well.
---
At exactly nine in the morning on a gray and cold day, Li Chuntao slipped inside her twin sister's office and almost slipped back out when she saw Hou Chen waiting for her inside with curiosity written all over her face. If it wasn't for the fact that she wanted to establish Ying's name and to flaunt her 'recovery', Li Chuntao wasn't planning to partake in the neverending paperwork that was waiting for her.
Plastering a smile on her face, she marched over to the desk and greeted Hou Chen with a curt nod. The latter looked at her with a softened gaze as she missed Li Xiuying. Ying and Chuntao's mannerism were nothing alike, but somehow, by just looking at Li Chuntao, Hou Chen could only sigh dejectedly at Ying's pitiful end.
Li Chuntao took a deep breath and reigned herself. Hou Chen didn't deserve her bad temper early this morning, not when she was the one who decided to come here in the first place.
"I know this is too much for you, Miss Chuntao but this is the perfect time to establish your stand as Li Xiuying, not only to the board but to the business community. Are you sure this would lure out the people responsible for Ying's death?"
Li Chuntao nodded. She would let Mu Jianyu see that Ying didn't need him to live happily, she would let Lin Meirong see that Ying was still incomparable next to her. The best revenge is to let your enemies see that they could never bring you down, no matter how hard they try.
"They will feel threatened. If they knew that Li Xiuying recovered her memories, they would be forced to clear their own tracks." She nonchalantly replied.
Fifteen minutes later, Li Chuntao entered the conference room for today's stockholders' meeting located on the fifteenth floor of the building. Normally, the daylight outside would be enough to light up the whole room, but today, everything looks gray and drab; affecting everyone's mood.
The financial plan that Li Xiuying left before her accident was being utilized, which was a good thing, since it saved Zheng Yue a lot of trouble from dealing with the investors of their company while Li Chuntao couldn't be bothered to deal with those people.
Still, as one of the heiresses of the family, she had the responsibility to help manage the company whenever she's free. She couldn't possibly enjoy the perks of being a Li without contributing anything in return.
As she entered the room, she could feel everyone's eyes on her. She had a feeling that they were only looking at her because of the rumors of Ying having a secret marriage with the Young Master of the Shen family, which she and Shen Zichen didn't care about in the first place. Whatever they do in private, the public had no say on it.
As she sat on her seat, Hou Chen scurried towards her and provided her with today's agenda.. She forced a bland smile as the men in their fifties and mid-thirties greeted her, the kind of smile she pasted whenever she had to talk to strangers whose interest in her was based on the fact that she was a Li princess and not because she's capable.
