Chapter 4 - Human Stupidity!
Even though he was disappointed with whoever wasted so much money in making this place, Kairen just happily lied down on his soft bed. He wanted to go back home. There was no way he could live in this crazy place. And the only way he could think of was.... sleeping. He had solved most of the problems in his life exactly in this way… well… not exactly "solving" but… anyway, that was the only solution he could think of right now.
And it absolutely wasn't because he was too lazy to think of a logical way.
'What logic? How can I think logically when I was suddenly thrown to an unknown place?'
Righ, could anyone see any logic in the situation he was in? No! You should solve illogical situations in illogical ways... yeah, let's just think like that.
He closed his eyes while thinking about how his brother would react if Kairen told him about all the crazy things he went through today.
'Well, he would probably not believe me…'
Imagining his brother's reaction, a silly smile was formed on his lips. His eyes were still closed, that's why he couldn't see the look of disappointment and sadness on Reyan's face who had been staring at him nonstop since earlier. Even if he could see it, he wouldn't care as he would be going back home tonight, or so he wished. Having those sweet thoughts, he fell asleep in no time. A deep, deep slumber.
It was the next morning that Kairen opened his eyes again. He took deep breathes and prepared his mind for whatever he would see once he opened his eyes before he slowly moved his eyelashes. And the scene before him…
"…."
"You are awake!"
A pair of navy blue eyes staring right at him.
"…."
Ah no wait, it wasn't supposed to be like that. Kairen looked around. Yes. He was still in the dorm's room while being closely observed by his roommate.
"…."
He actually expected that his "magic trick" well, sleeping to be precise, wouldn't really work but he was still disappointed. He knew it was stupid to think that he would be back just by closing his eyes at night and opening them again in the morning, but he was too tired yesterday to think appropriately. And in addition to that, there was a small part of his heart that still wanted to believe that everything was just a dream.
Facing reality once again, Kairen heaved a heavy sigh. He had to really think seriously this time. If there was a way to come to this world, there must also be one to exit it. Kairen didn't know how, but he had to somehow find it. He wanted to go back home.
The first thing that came to his mind was that light and those cracks. He had to find out what they were.
"Hey, do you remember me?"
Kairen was too deep in thought that he almost forgot about the dude in front of his face for a moment. Reyan was staring at him with great anticipation.
"Of course I do."
Rayan's eyes became wide as he continued with a delighted voice.
"T-then-"
But he was interrupted before he could finish his sentence.
"How can I forget someone who had been stuck to my side the whole day yesterday?"
"…"
The delighted look disappeared from his face in an instance as he stared at Kairen with weird eyes.
'Why is he looking at me like that?'
"Then you haven't recovered yet… we should go to the hospital to get you checked out."
'Oh shit'
Kairen had forgotten about this memory-losing crap. He had gone through a lot yesterday just to escape that infirmary. There was no way he would go back there and waste his time for nothing. He had to search about his way to get out of here.
'Wait, how did I even end up in someone else's place?'
Was it really someone else? The guy they mistook him for was someone who resembled Kairen so much. Not just his appearance, but even his behavior and characteristics were somehow similar to that of his own... well, except for the fact that that dude seemed a little less stupid... He knew that since Rayan had talked about him and even showed pictures of him to Kairen, in hopes of getting his memories back.
Was it even possible to be replaced by someone else? What happened to that man then? Did he just disappear into the thin air? No. As much as he knew, he was just hit by something and lost consciousness, they would realize it if he was suddenly replaced by someone else. Not to mention that this Reyan dude had been by his side the whole time and would know if anything strange happened.
He just asked Reyan in case he would know something.
"Hey. Yesterday, did something strange happen to me when I was unconscious?"
Reyan who was about to get up answered his question.
"Strange? What do you mean by strange?"
"… Was I ever left alone? Or were there any weird… um… light around me?"
Reyan tilted his head at this weird question but still answered.
"No, there was nothing like that."
"Ah."
'Then what? … is it body possessing or something? Like those in the novels?'
But, his body was the same as it was before. He was sure it was his own body. And even if it was just his soul that moved here, again, what happened to this man's soul and Kairen's own body?
'Argh, so complicated…'
"I will bring your breakfast here. I had informed the academy of your condition so there won't be any problems if you are absent a few days."
Reyan was now moving towards the door. Kairen looked at him while thinking of the ways he could escape this hospital process again. This boy… why was he doing this anyway? Didn't he say it was midterm exams? Shouldn't he study right now? Why is he even going so far as to help Kairen?
Kairen had to somehow persuade this person to forget about his memory loss and instead, help him search for the way to go back, as he was the only one Kairen knew in this world. With that thought, he started talking.
"Why are you so worried about me? I will get better sooner or later anyway and even if I don't it doesn't matter that much. There is no need to-"
"What?"
Kairen couldn't even finish what he was saying.
Reyan stopped at his place and glared at Kairen while angrily frowning. His handsome face suddenly became really scary.
"What the hell did you just say? Doesn't matter? You still say nonsense even when you had lost your memories huh? Stop saying crap and get ready as we will leave after eating breakfast. You got it?"
"…."
'What? Isn't he overreacting? Did I say something wrong? Why is he glaring at me like that? What's with this sudden change?'
Kairen suddenly remembered how all of his attempts to escape were ruined by this guy as he looked at Reyan's now scary face. wasn't this dude really strong? He could even do magic!
'Oh my god did I just annoy someone who can cut me down without even moving? Is he angry?'
Kairen got chills on his back. He even forgot what he wanted to say.
"YOU GOT IT?"
"Y-yes, sir!"
And he answered automatically.
"Tch."
Reyan glared at him once more, then clicked his tongue as he left the room.. A shocked and scared Kairen was left there blankly staring at the door.
