Book 2: Chapter 35: Rising Rank

Vol 2 Ch 35: Rising Rank

Feng Yizhou sneered, "Justice? They're just lowly commoners. Dead or alive, what justice do they deserve?"

Zhang Xuan shook his head. "In my eyes, you're worth far less than them."

As they exchanged words, Zhang Xuan’s relentless attacks forced Feng Yizhou into a desperate retreat, step by step. Unable to contain his frustration, Feng Yizhou finally blurted out, "How do you have such enduring power?"

For most Dharma Aspect experts, exerting a strength of 500 oxen was a peak burst, a momentary surge in battle. Sustaining that level was near impossible; typical strikes would settle between 300 to 400 oxen.

Yet Zhang Xuan’s every punch carried the unwavering force of 500 oxen, as precise as if measured on scales. Such perfect control could only mean one thing: his true power vastly exceeded 500 oxen, allowing him to fine-tune his attacks with precision.

"You’ve reached the peak of the Ninth Level of the Source Pool Realm… No wonder you dare act so recklessly." Feng Yizhou finally understood.

"But this is my domain. You think killing me will be easy?"

With his back nearly against the wall, Feng Yizhou’s eyes glinted coldly. He reached into his robe and pulled out a token, tapping it lightly.

Buzz!

A low hum reverberated as ripples spread through the air. The once-stable Source Energy in the room churned violently, like water disturbed by a thrown stone.

"It’s the Demon-Slaying Killing Array of Fuyuan Trading House!"

"That array attacks indiscriminately, sparing no one without a matching token. We should’ve left when we had the chance!"

"Feng Yizhou’s gone mad, activating an array that will kill us all!"

Panic spread among the onlookers.

The Demon-Slaying Killing Array was a formidable defense, brought from the Zouyi Dynasty and set up over 81 days. Even Ninth-Level Source Pool experts could barely escape its confines.

Now, with the array fully activated, black mist filled the hall, swallowing the light and plunging everything into darkness.

"Ha! Elder Ling, you may be powerful, but dying with you will be an honor for these fools," Feng Yizhou laughed maniacally, his face twisted in triumph.

But then, a calm voice broke through the panic.

"Relying on an array? Foolish."

In the next moment, a radiant light burst forth. Zhang Xuan stepped forward, each step banishing the encroaching darkness. By his third step, the oppressive black mist had completely dissipated, and sunlight once again poured into the hall.

"How… How is this possible? You wield the Mo Dao Heaven’s Fate! How can you dispel an array?" Feng Yizhou stammered in disbelief.

The Mo Dao Heaven’s Fate specialized in martial prowess, not array mastery. Yet Zhang Xuan had shattered the Demon-Slaying Killing Array effortlessly—an accomplishment even top array masters would struggle to replicate.

"You don’t need to know," Zhang Xuan replied coldly, stepping forward to deliver another punch.

Crack!

Feng Yizhou’s arms shattered under the force, and he was sent flying, blood spraying mid-air. Before he could recover, Zhang Xuan’s foot was already pressing down on his chest.

"You… you can’t kill me! My brother won’t let you live!" Feng Yizhou gasped, waving his hands desperately.

"Did you spare Yu Fei? Did you spare Xiao Zhuo?" Zhang Xuan’s voice was ice cold.

With a final burst of force, Zhang Xuan’s foot crushed Feng Yizhou’s chest.

Boom!

Feng Yizhou’s eyes widened in disbelief as his heart exploded. Blood poured from his mouth, and his body went limp.

"You…" His hand fell lifelessly to the floor, his eyes still filled with shock. He had never expected to die, let alone for the sake of mere "nobodies."

"The master is dead?"

"He really killed Feng Yizhou!"

The crowd was frozen in disbelief. They had thought Zhang Xuan was merely bluffing, but he had truly slain the master of Fuyuan Trading House, a renowned figure on the Hunting List.

After a moment of silence, Zhang Xuan returned to Yu Fei and his family. He whispered softly, "I’ve avenged you. Rest in peace."

Turning to the stunned vendor, Zhang Xuan flicked two Source Coins into his hands. "Bury them properly. Whatever remains is yours. But if I hear of any mishap… remember, killing you would be no harder than killing Feng Yizhou."

The vendor trembled, clutching the coins. "Understood, sir. I’ll ensure they receive a proper burial."

With that, Zhang Xuan strode out of the trading house, leaving behind a scene of devastation. His task was complete, and he had no intention of lingering.

As for Feng Zhaoting’s revenge? That was Ling Buyang’s problem, not Zhang Xuan’s. If they dared pursue him, he would deal with them in kind.

In the underground black market, Fu Yingying was leisurely applying makeup before a mirror. Her sultry features and crimson lips exuded a dangerous allure.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Her maid burst into the room, panic written across her face.

"Miss, terrible news!"

Fu Yingying frowned. "What’s got you so flustered?"

"Feng Yizhou… He’s dead!"

"What?" Fu Yingying’s hand froze midair. Her hairpins jingled softly as she stood abruptly. "How? Tell me everything."

The maid relayed the details, her voice shaking. "Elder Ling went straight to Fuyuan Trading House after leaving here. He killed the steward, then a dozen enforcers. When Feng Yizhou showed up, Elder Ling slew him too—in front of everyone."

"It was him? He actually dared…" Fu Yingying’s eyes widened in shock. She had believed Ling Buyang would only glance at the Hunting List, never imagining he would act so decisively.

Suddenly, the Hunting List in the corner of the room began to glow.

"It must be updating now that Feng Yizhou is confirmed dead," Fu Yingying murmured, taking the list in her hands.

Sure enough, Feng Yizhou’s name had disappeared. But what caught her eye next made her heart skip a beat.

"Miss, look! Elder Ling’s bounty has risen!" the maid exclaimed.

Fu Yingying scanned the list.

Rank 12: Ling Buyang — 59 million Source Coins.

His bounty had skyrocketed by 30 million.

"Someone increased the bounty significantly… They’re desperate to see him dead," Fu Yingying whispered.

The higher the bounty, the greater the number of assassins and bounty hunters who would come. Even someone like Ling Buyang would face endless trouble unless he could prove his strength matched the bounty.

"Who would offer such a high price?" Fu Yingying pondered aloud, her expression thoughtful.

The maid shuddered. "Whoever it is, Elder Ling’s in grave danger now."

But Fu Yingying smirked, her eyes gleaming. "If he truly is Ling Buyang, then yes, he’s in trouble. But if he isn’t… then perhaps the danger lies elsewhere."
