Chapter 28 Dongmen Villagers
Liu Lan was active too and enthusiastically made tea for everyone.
For a long time, Liu Hongfu did not come out.
"What's going on here?"
Zhou Xiuying reminded in a low voice:
"Xiaoyong, see what's going on with your dad."
"Okay,"
Liu Yong replied with a nod, promptly stepping into the room and calling,
"Dad, can you please bring out the cigarettes and candy? It's been a while since you last brought them out, and everyone outside is waiting for them."
Liu Hongfu didn't know what to do and expressed embarrassment, saying,
"Why are there only Zhonghua cigarettes? Why don't we offer everyone these better cigarettes?"
The rationale behind this gesture was that the standard of living in Dongmen Village was not particularly high. Thus, it was a small and affordable gesture to provide cigarettes for everyone during a joyous occasion, which would only cost around ten yuan.
Liu Yong smiled,
"Of course it's Zhonghua, let's go, take some out."
After buying a dozen in total and returning, Liu Yong took two or three without hesitation and said,
"Dad, can you bring out some candy too?"
Once Liu Yong came out, he distributed cigarettes to everyone, giving a pack of Zhonghua to every adult regardless of gender.
Many people were taken aback!
The act of distributing a whole pack of scattered Chinese food in Dongmen Village was unexpected and had never been done before.
It's so embarrassing!
The table was also filled with numerous candies, bringing joy to the children as they happily indulged in them.
The front of the house was bustling with excitement.
"It is because that Liu Yong has made a fortune outside."
"Liu Hongfu gave birth to a good son, and since then, he has turned around."
The group continued their lively conversation while others couldn't help but repeatedly gaze at the car, feeling envious.
When it was past noon, Zhou Xiuying prepared a table of sumptuous meals and placed them on an Eight Immortals table in the center of the main room.
Others began to gradually disperse.
Liu Hongfu was happy and enthusiastic and politely invited some elders and close relatives to stay for dinner.
Both his two cousins and his second uncle, who were in their seventies, were present.
"Second uncle, please stay and have a meal before leaving,"
The second uncle replied,
"No, I should be going back to eat since the food at home should be ready soon."
Liu Yong brought two bottles of Moutai and placed them on the table. When he realized the second uncle was present, he exclaimed,
"Second Uncle, I brought Moutai back. Come and have a drink and try it out."
"What!"
"Moutai!"
The second uncle had heard of it before but had never had the opportunity to taste it. As soon as he heard of it again, he became immediately interested in trying it out.
"Then I will take something orally today, sit down and drink two glasses."
Liu Hongfu invited everyone, including the second uncle, to take their seats, and Liu Yong opened one of the bottles of Moutai.
As the aroma of the Moutai wine wafting through the air, Liu Hongfu's two cousins and second uncle grew increasingly enthusiastic. They were eager to taste the legendary Moutai wine for the first time.
Rural people have never drunk such a high-end wine.
As Liu Hongfu was pouring the wine, he noticed Liu Jianping walking past the front of the house.
Liu Jianping had made a recent trip into town on his bicycle, with the intention of discussing road construction matters. Unfortunately, he returned empty-handed and disappointed, as he was unable to obtain the necessary approvals.
"Jianping, come over for a drink or two. Our family Liu Yong is back."
Liu Jianping must have known that Liu Yong had come back home with good fortune, so he stopped and hesitated for a moment.
Liu Hongfu was extremely courteous and eager to include Liu Jianjun in the gathering. Despite any reluctance on Liu Jianjun's part, Liu Hongfu's kindness was difficult to resist, and he found himself eventually relenting and taking a seat.
Seeing Moutai and Zhonghua on the table, Liu Jianping's eyes lit up.
"Liu Yong, it seems that you really made a fortune outside."
Liu Yong said modestly: "No, it's just luck and I made a little money."
"Come, come, drink, and eat."
Liu Hongfu raised his glass and said loudly.
The entire table of people began to eat, and the dishes were abundant. With Maotai and Zhonghua at the table, the atmosphere was very warm and jovial.
Everyone seated at the table enjoyed a sumptuous meal with rich dishes, Maotai, and Zhonghua cigarettes, creating a warm and lively atmosphere.
No one noticed, but in fact, Liu Jianping had a trace of sadness in his brows, he spoke relatively little and drank a lot of wine.
It could be as drinking to alleviate boredom or to relieve one's sorrow.
After the meal, everyone was very happy, but Liu Jianjun was a little drunk and started talking about wine.
"Our village needs to build roads, but the road officials say they have no money. It doesn't matter if they don't pay. I will find a way, as there must be a way."
Jiaping said.
Liu Hongfu said: "Jianping, you are drunk, I will take you back."
"I'm not drunk, I can go back by myself."
After finishing speaking, he staggered out.
His home is not far away, and he will be there in three to five minutes. For safety reasons, Liu Hongfu still took him home.
After dinner, there were no outsiders, only the family together, Zhou Xiuying asked, "Xiaoyong, have you found a girlfriend yet?"
She doesn't care how Liu Yong is doing in Huahai City but cares most about whether Liu Yong has a girlfriend.
Liu Yong said truthfully:
"Not yet, don't worry."
Zhou Xiuying said:
"Why don't you be in a hurry, you have to hurry up. In our village, several people as old as you have children."
"Mom, don't worry about this matter, I know it well."
Zhou Xiuying shook her head lightly.
.....
A large camphor tree stands at the entrance of the village. The numerous people, regardless of gender and age, gather to enjoy the shade it provides. Some individuals were smoking cigarettes.
"I really envy Liu Yong, who made a fortune outside."
"Driving such a good car, and Moutai and Zhonghua, I think there are at least several million."
"I can see more than that, at least tens of millions, maybe 20 to 30 million."
"So much money!"
Many people were secretly stunned, showing obvious envy.
"I heard that Liu Yong doesn't have a girlfriend yet. Whoever has a girl should seize the opportunity."
Many people laughed.
The tale of Liu Yong's exploits spread rapidly throughout Dongmen Village. In addition to feelings of envy, a number of individuals were intrigued by the prospect of perhaps approaching Zhou Xiuying and potentially introducing her to Liu Yong. These curious individuals likely pondered whether or not they should take the initiative in order to facilitate a connection between the two individuals.
...….
In the morning.
After finishing their breakfast, the family was ready to begin their day, with Liu Hongfu planning to head out. For some time, Liu Hongfu had been employed at a construction site, however, he made the decision to resign from his job several days prior. Unfortunately, his accumulated earnings totaling over 2,000 yuan had not yet been paid out to him.
Initially, Liu Yong was inclined to brush off the situation and disregard the accumulated sum of over 2,000 yuan. However, upon further consideration, he realized that it would be unfair to forego the earnings that he had worked so hard to earn.
Father and son then set out for their destination, with Liu Yong behind the wheel as they made their way to the construction site located in the county seat.
"Hongfu, where are you going!"
"Liu Yong, plan to stay at home for a few days."
The villagers were taking the initiative to acknowledge one another, a gesture that was previously not common in the area. Liu Hongfu was aware that this newfound camaraderie was likely due to his son's recent achievement and newfound status in the village.
When others say hello, Liu Yong often responds with a smile.
The distance between Dongmen Village's County D and the county seat was not significant, spanning a mere ten kilometers or so. Upon departing from the village and proceeding along the county road, the journey was relatively straightforward. Eventually, Liu Yong and his father arrived at the construction site where Liu Hongfu had previously been employed.
Liu parked their vehicle alongside the project department located on the construction site. As they stepped out of the car, they noticed a small white car parked next to them. Liu Hongfu recognized this as the car belonging to Sun Yuejin, the contractor responsible for the construction site. He inferred that Sun Yuejin was likely inside the project department.
