Legacy of the Dark Sage

Chapter 74 Transmuter

The man lifted Kyran with his right hand. On his left, a light-brown magic array appeared and circled on his fist.

"For the Conclave!"

Suddenly.

"Humph," Kyran sneered.

Focusing the Regis's body tempering technique on both his legs, Kyran hooked his good arm on the man's forearm and hoisted his body, and then he simultaneously aimed his left leg at the man's temple.

"Wha-guh!"

Because the man believed he had overpowered Kyran, he could not react in time and was hit.

He tilted to the side, and his grip on Kyran's head loosened.

Kyran took this opportunity and climbed the man's forearm. His broken arm protested under his weight, but he held his breath and ignored the pain as he rotated in midair, then delivered a dropkick on the man's head.

"Guh!" The man tilted forward from the force of Kyran's kick. However, he managed to stabilize himself to prevent himself from falling face-first on the floor. With his left arm, he instantaneously reached for Kyran, who was still in midair.

A small purple disc appeared beneath Kyran's feet. The moment his body touched the disc, it disappeared within.

"What?" The man stopped his hand because if he did not, he would have touched this disc, and he was not sure what would happen.

Kyran caught the frightened look on the man's face before he completely entered the disc.

When the disc disappeared, the man immediately turned around to look at his surrounding.

A few meters away, opposite where he stood, a purple disc appeared above.

Kyran appeared from inside the disc and descended to the floor with a soft thud.

He watched the man cautiously while he controlled his breathing. Beads of cold sweat trickled down the side of his face as a sharp pain assaulted his senses from his broken arm. Still, no matter how much it hurts, he refrained from showing it on his face.

Kyran already knew that the man's magic level was not a Magus from the brief exchange he had with the man. The man's use of arrays was already a giveaway. But he was probably at least a High Master.

Then the man's magic was similar to Dante; Earth Magic. However, the man was using his magic differently from Dante. If Dante was using molding techniques on his magic, this man was integrating his magic not only on those gauntlets but also on his body.

Kyran noticed this after he kicked the man. He had kicked a lot of people before, so he knew how it felt kicking a human. But he actually had an impression of kicking solid earth when he kicked the man. If he had not focused the Regis's body tempering technique on his legs, Kyran was sure he would suffer additional broken bones. This also answered how his arm broke from the man's punch earlier.

Then there were the man's gauntlets. Kyran believed they were magic weapons.

But there were still two things he could not understand. One was the man's speed.

Kyran looked at the man's boots and wondered if it was a magic item that could boost his speed.

Then there was that unibit the man molded. How was it able to penetrate his void scales?

The void magic in Kyran's void scales was not concentrated, but it could still disintegrate anything it touches. That was the case from when he fought Dante. None of his attacks penetrated his void scales.

So how did the man do it?

Kyran was suddenly reminded of Nolan's explanation about a mage's specialty. When Nolan explained the Transmuter and creation magic, Kyran mistaken creation magic with Dante's molding technique. So Nolan explained the difference between molding and creation magic.

"Molding is when you change the shape of your magic into something else. In creation magic, you create a new form to your magic and even add more substance into it."

'Is this man a Transmuter?' Kyran wondered.

Did the man actually create something that could penetrate his void magic?

Kyran's eyes narrowed. It would seem this man was more troublesome than he thought.

The man looked at Kyran. At first, his face showed disbelief. Then he smiled. His eyes glinted in excitement.

"You actually pretended to be almost unconscious, so I will lower my guard when I approached you. Good. Really Good. You really take after your father," the man commented.

Kyran frowned. That was the second time that the man commented on how he takes after his father. He was not annoyed by it. On the contrary, he was honored to be compared to his father, whom he looked up to. But the way the man said it did not feel like a compliment.

"I'm going to enjoy this."

As soon as the man had spoken this, several light-brown magic arrays surrounded Kyran.

'Tsk,' Kyran gritted his teeth and roused his magic.

Then the man disappeared.

'Where?' Kyran thought and instinctively wanted to roam his eyes to find the man. But then he stopped and told himself, 'Don't use your eyes to find him.'

Making use of his five senses, Kyran looked out for any change around him.

Suddenly, he sensed a movement from one of the arrays located to his left.

Kyran realized that the man likely knew about his broken arm. Thus, if the man attacked his left side, his reaction would be slower.

The man appeared before one of the magic arrays to the left. Another boulder appeared within the array, and before it fully left the array, the man punched it out toward Kyran.

The boulder crackle and reformed itself as it flew to Kyran's location.

Without looking at the incoming magic attack, Kyran focused and summoned an arc shape purple barrier to his left. This time, he did not integrate his magic with the Regis's body tempering technique; this way, the void would be concentrated. And because the purple barrier was not semi-transparent like the void scales, the man would not be able to see Kyran's movement.

Using his good hand, Kyran focused and imagined a two-meter spear. Slowly, a purple spear started to form on his hand.

At this moment, the boulder had fully turned into another unibit, but it was larger than the first one and finally collided with Kyran's purple barrier.

The unibit crackled the moment it touched Kyran's purple barrier. However, unlike his void scales that showed signs of breaking at the moment of impact with the unibit, this time, it was the unibit that showed signs of disintegrating, albeit very slowly.

The man disappeared again and appeared at a magic array behind Kyran.

Once again, a boulder appeared within the array, and the man punched it out toward Kyran.

This time, Kyran did not summon another purple barrier to protect himself from the attack. He turned around just as the spear on his hand finally took shape. Then he threw the spear at the still reforming boulder.

When these two finally collided, a shockwave was formed, and cracks appeared in the surrounding.

"You can use molding technique?" The man exclaimed in surprise.

The unibit and the spear crackled. Neither showed signs of relenting.

"Humph!" The man harumphed and moved once again.

Kyran's brow creased as he sensed three magic arrays in different directions started to react.

'Tsk,' he gritted his teeth. This man's way of using his magic was really annoying. Kyran had no idea magic arrays could be left suspended in midair and remain inactive.

The man appeared in front of another magic array. Instead of summoning a boulder, however, something round like a muzzle emerged from it.

The man spread his arms, and the other two arrays also activated, and the same round muzzle emerged.

Immediately, Kyran's eyes turned reddish-purple. He really wanted to avoid using his magic in a way that could be fatal to the man because he was likely a Conclave council member. But right now, he felt that the man was really trying to 'critically wounded' him.

Yes. Not kill. Since Kyran did not sense any murderous intent from the man even though he initially declared he would be 'dead'.

Concentrated magic formed within the muzzles on the man's arrays.

"Take this!" The man shouted as the concentrated magic fired at Kyran.

Unrestrained purple rings appeared around Kyran. Before the concentrated magic hit him, the purple rings already connected and wrapped around him, forming a semi-sphere barrier.

Since this purple barrier was the unrestrained version, it expanded at an alarming rate and destroyed everything it touched. That included the unibits that had not been destroyed yet, as well as the still suspended inactive magic arrays of the man.

The man's eyes widened when he saw the approaching barrier.

"Not good!" He exclaimed and immediately jumped back a few meters.

However, the barrier did not stop expanding. The whole room crackled as the room's array tried to repair the areas the barrier had destroyed, but the array could not keep up.

"This rascal!" The man gritted his teeth. He ran toward the wall at the back and destroyed it with a punch.

The array on the wall activated and started reconstructing the destroyed wall, but the man started to run out just before the array started its reconstruction.

The purple barrier reached this wall, and immediately the array crackled and was destroyed.

The moment the man ran out of the building, he turned around and saw a purple barrier emerged from the wall and even the building, destroying it.
