Legacy of the Dark Sage

Chapter 1184 Closed-Door Meeting (2)

The spar-turn-to-a-coaching session ended after three hours. It should have ended much earlier than that if Anahita and Kyran only focused on tackling the flaw in her exterior morphication technique. However, during their discussion, Anahita would come up with non-related questions to her technique, which was nonetheless relevant in understanding Draconic magic's application better.

Thus, their session took longer than anticipated.

Surprisingly enough, none of the people present got bored. They also paid attention to their discussion and commented about it among their group.

"I'd like to test out more things, but it is getting late," Anahita said, regretting their spar was scheduled in the evening. She should ask to have their match start as soon as possible since that day's spar event ended early. Then again, even if her patriarch included a time, the preparation would still take time, especially when they were the ones who wanted the match to be kept a secret.

"If the sparring event tomorrow ends early, can we have another session in the evening? Oh, on the last day, too."

"That's..." Kyran toward Aillos's side, who only raised his brows in response.

Kyran was inwardly exasperated at Aillos's action because he practically told him to decide for himself.

Feeling defeated, Kyran looked at Anahita, who wore an expectant look.

"Tomorrow is fine, but I can't on the last day."

"Well, I suppose it's fine," Anahita replied, slightly disappointed. "You probably want to rest after participating in the sparring activities for three days—."

"I don't have a spar scheduled tomorrow," Kyran told her before she finished what she was saying.

"Huh?" Anahita paused and looked at him dumbfoundedly.

It wasn't just her. Almost everyone, especially those from her tribe, was surprised at his words.

"You are not going to participate tomorrow?"

"Rather than not participating, I can't. Since all my remaining scheduled spars have been canceled."

"..."

Anahita and the rest of her tribe were rendered speechless. From Kyran's statement, they already guessed that the other tribes had withdrawn their spar requests. They could not blame them, though. After Kyran's display that morning and the reveal that he was not only using Draconic magic but Chaos magic, it likely convinced them that he was someone their tribe's current talents could match.

That was also one of the reasons Anahita's patriarch, Ickle, requested an off-the-record match instead of proceeding with a spar tomorrow.

"I only have one spar request for tomorrow, but I don't know when my turn will come, so..."

"We still have to be present until the end of the event tomorrow. I can't afford to hear any more rumors," Kyran told Anahita with an apologetic smile.

Anahita chuckled at his expression and said, "Yes, you're right. Who knows what kind of rumor will spread if they discover that both of us are missing for the most part on tomorrow's event."

"Thank you for understanding."

"Then, we'll meet here again in the evening? Same time?"

"Yes."

"Oh, then, can we have a longer session tomorrow? We won't have anything to do than have friendly spars again on the last day, anyway."

"I can't."

Anahita raised her brows in confusion, "Are you that exhausted? I suppose having a human body is pretty inconvenient, huh."

"That's not it."

"?"

"Null will represent his family on the last day's closed-door meeting," Eissen told Anahita while he approached them.

Anahita's eyes almost popped out of their sockets as she gaped at them in shock, "You?"

Kyran nodded.

From the sidelines, Ickle and Crei did not react because they were already aware of the attendees of the closed-door meeting. After all, they received a formal invite with an overview of the topics that would be discussed that afternoon.

On the other hand, Thorn could not help but frown at this. He did not expect Kyran to have a very high position in his family. As far as he was concerned, Kyran might be the new Dragon Lord, but he was not the patriarch of his family or the successor. Thorn remembered the two humans with him during the banquet and was sure they should be their family's highest authority.

"My Grandfather and Father can't come that day," Kyran explained, not bothering to elaborate on why they could not attend—besides, saying more than he should only invite more questions. He needed to avoid that because he could not tell them about his family's activities.

At least, not yet.

Anahita smiled bitterly, seemingly understanding Kyran's dilemma.

"Fine, we'll just schedule another session after the Grand Gathering."

"..."

Kyran initially wanted to decline again because he had prior engagements after the Grand Gathering. However, if he refused again, he had an inkling Anahita would continue to pester him until he agreed on a date.

Clap!

A resounding clap, like thunder, was heard from the north side of the stage, and everyone turned their attention toward it.

The one who clapped was Aillos. Knowing Anahita would not leave Kyran alone until he agreed to have another session, he finally decided to intervene.

"I'm impressed at your dedication to learning and improving your techniques, Anahita," he started. "It's not just you. After watching the matches thus far, I now have a better understanding of the current generation's potential. As such, I am thinking of organizing a large-scale training camp for everyone. Details will be discussed at the closed-door meeting, and you can wait for that."

Anahita, Thorn, and the other representatives' moods changed at once. Although the tribes held regular training sessions, a large-scale training camp involving all tribes had never happened before. They were looking forward to it but felt apprehensive about Lord Aillos's objective of suddenly wanting to organize one.

After a pause, Aillos added, "Let's stop for the day," and gestured for his aides before leaving.

Everyone lowered their heads in respect, and his aides followed suit. When Aillos announced the end of the match, everyone also left.

"I didn't expect that supposed match to turn into a coaching session," Jared admitted, giving his nephew a wry smile. "You sure have made a good impression."

"I actually prefer this development," Cyneah chimed in. She had been silent since the start of the match because she worried that Kyran would get injured again. Fortunately, the exchanges between him and Anahita did not last that long. "You didn't have to suffer today."

Kyran glanced at Cyneah at the corner of his eyes and felt apologetic. He knew she was in a foul mood these days and that it was all because of him. After all, their recent visit to the Lower Realm was not exactly fun.

Kyran's training with Avrum would have been very dangerous if Cyneah had not been there. Avrum's poison magic might be weaker than Dilitrio's; however, that would only be possible if Kyran avoided them.

To Cyneah's chagrin, Kyran never avoided Avrum's poison and even inhaled most of the latter's most fatal poison attack. Kyran reasoned that he needed to build his resistance to Poison magic, and Cyneah understood that. Nevertheless, that did not mean she was happy about it.

Building and understanding poison were only a few reasons that caused Cyneah's mood to sour. Another reason was that Kyran visited some of the planes that were his responsibility. He did not take her along, but whenever he returned, he always had internal and even fatal injuries.

Even then, Cyneah did not voice her discontent. However, Kyran sensed it. He truly felt apologetic, but he could not stop then. If he did, those planes would have been destroyed or taken over by Flos and Obstruction's faction. In any case, he was able to resolve the problem with Nolan and Loar's assistance.

Another factor that largely contributed to Cyneah's mood was Kyran's training with Chaos magic. The first couple of days he was trying to get rid of Coelus's magic energy was hell. His physical body barely endured the energy, and without Shaiha guarding the rest of his magic cores, they would have all been destroyed or influenced by it.

Cyneah never once complained, no matter how reckless Kyran was while training in the Lower Realm. However, he knew she was already at her limits, and he wanted to make up with her for it.Nôv(el)B\\jnn

Jared watched his nephew and his niece-in-law at the corner of his eyes. He wanted to scold his nephew, to be honest, but did not want to meddle. In his eyes, Kyran might only be in his early twenties, but he was actually much older than that. Kyran trained in the Tower of Tribulations for five years and even left the Human plane to search for Cyneah for over a year.

The point was that Kyran was old enough to deal with his matters, so Jared decided not to meddle.

Jared did not mind giving some advice, but only when his nephew asked for it.

"Is it true that you don't have any match tomorrow?" he asked, wanting to keep their conversation from getting too serious.

"Yes," Kyran replied, grateful his uncle had pointed that out. I initially had a few requests, but they all withdrew them."

Jared chuckled, "Cade will likely approve of that, but not Father."

"...I know," Kyran replied. His grandfather advised that losing the match to win the war was better, yet he chose to do otherwise. Although it was early to say that he lost the war by winning his matches, his actions definitely left mixed impressions on the tribe leader. "Hopefully, negative impressions are fewer. I also prefer if they have a neutral opinion of me."

"Does that mean their opinion can affect the plan?" Cyneah asked. Her knowledge of the current situation might be limited, but she could more or less guess what Kyran had in mind.

"It can," Kyran admitted. "But as long as I have Lord Aillos's support, everything will proceed as planned."
