Chapter 99 - Lucky Player
[Congratulations! Player NightFall has opened a Mysterious Box and found a Silver Dragon Egg (Legendary Pet) inside. How lucky! Please congratulate him in the world chat!]
An announcement akin to an advertisement in the form of a moving text appeared in front of every player on the NA server.
While other players were grumbling in envy of the announced player’s luck, Hiro was still standing in the same spot, frozen in place. On his hands was a large metallic silver egg the size of an American football.
The blinding light that suddenly appeared with the item when he opened the last box startled him.
Meanwhile, in the world chat.
[GreatMage: What the hell?!]
[LilRainbow: F*ck! F*ck! F*ck!]
[PinkBell: Cutie NightFall again? How could he be so lucky??]
[FavBitch: Come on, baby, can you share your luck with me?]
[Leonard91: He’s so scary]
[LordGrim: My mysterious boxes are only filled with trash. GM, please, I hate you!]
Hiro ignored the world chat that was once again filled with his name. He still couldn’t believe that the somewhat heavy item was actually on his hands right now.
He didn’t know why, but Alice told him to get a pet in-game as soon as possible. Moreover, he also didn’t expect that he would obtain a pet this soon.
“A legendary pet… My luck for the next five years must’ve been used up for this little thing,” he muttered in disbelief.
Hiro walked toward a gap between the buildings in Beginner Town to hide. He wanted to check the pet feature that he hadn’t known much about.
Most of the pets that were currently obtainable started at the egg phase. In order to hatch the egg, the owner had to collect several materials and head to a pet tamer.
After the egg phase, the obtained pet would move to the baby phase. In this phase, although pets still could not aid in battle, they could still give certain buffs to their owners.
Hiro quickly read the general explanation about the pet feature before checking the remaining time. 10 PM.
There was still time until the daily quests reset time.
He then decided to learn more about the needs of pets after catching up by at least doing the daily quests before they reset.
Not only did he manage to finish the three daily quest types he had mastered in less than one hour, but he also leveled up again after finishing them.
…
After inviting three random players to arm wrestle with, Hiro decided to rest in Jack’s tavern for a while. Despite meeting three opponents with the same level as him, he still won all three rounds of the minigame with ease.
Next, he focused back on his pet, which was still in egg form. When Hiro took out the dragon egg and put it on the table, the attention of the players in the tavern was immediately drawn.
In less than half a minute, the players around had gathered to look more closely.
“Whoa, so cool!”
“Did you really get it from a mysterious box?”
“You’re so lucky!”
“Hurry and hatch it, I want to see what it looks like.”
Five excited players Hiro didn’t recognize stood in front of him, forming a barricade.
In the meantime, Hiro focused back on finding out about the materials he had to prepare to hatch the egg as soon as he could.
There was a new pet-specific feature where players could input a pet’s name to find information about it. After Hiro inputted his pet’s name, his HUD system displayed a new window filled with information about the materials required to hatch it.
[1 Ancient Gold Statue]
[1 Cursed Dragon’s Heart]
[7 Blessings of the Seven Dwarves]
Hiro didn’t know if he should feel fortunate or unfortunate. The three items he needed could be obtained from the same source.
[A Dragon and the Seven Dwarves], a special dungeon quest.
According to the information shown in his HUD system, the quest could be obtained by talking to one of the tribal chiefs in Vul Faldur City. However, in order to trigger the quest, he had to earn the trust of the tribal chief by submitting a certain item.
There was one problem, though. The system didn’t mention what the item was.
Hiro let out a long sigh and put the dragon egg back into his inventory.
“What happened, man?” One of the players in front of him seemed disappointed when he saw Hiro’s reaction.
“Not today, I need to find a way to impress a dwarven chief.” He really had no idea how he was supposed to do that.
“Why don’t you just directly ask the person? Or at least… ask the residents of Vul Faldur.”
The response from the gloomy-faced woman in front of him made Hiro feel as if he just received enlightenment.
“You’re right! What’s your name?”
Hiro read the text above the player’s head.
[Level 29. LittlePony. Cleric. Licensed Traveler]
“Thank you, LittlePony.”
After getting a bright idea, Hiro hurried to leave his seat. He then quickly opened his friend list to contact the name that crossed his mind.
Ring!
“Hey, Jacob, I’m going to keep my promise.” A victorious smile was on Hiro’s face when he heard Jacob’s tired voice.
“Hiro!? Is this really you!? Oh man, where have you been? You disappeared again!” Jacob became even more excited when he found out that the person contacting him was Hiro.
“Send me your address, I’ll go there now.”
After just several seconds, Hiro successfully got the location coordinates of Jacob’s house and rushed to find NPC Willie. Even though the night was getting late, Hiro didn’t feel sleepy at all.
…
[Vul Faldur City]
Jacob was one of the residents of the dwarves’ city. Even though he didn’t have the dwarf bloodline, he still had a plot he had to manage there.
Hiro was teleported right to the city square of the desert city. Despite already having his full costume set and armor on, the breeze that blew his body was so cold it felt as if he had to immediately learn the [Cold Resistance] skill Noah previously received.
He swiftly walked following the direction of the marked location. This time, the atmosphere of the dwarves’ city was more crowded than when Hiro last came.
The tallest dwarf NPCs in the city reached Hiro’s chest at most, but on average, their height only reached Hiro’s hip. Not excluding the female dwarves, their faces were extremely unfriendly and most of them had thick facial hair.
For the players with dwarf bloodline, he was a little confused as most of those he saw had Asian faces. It was as if the Asian players on the server dominated the dwarf race.
‘They definitely play to trade.’
It was no secret that Asians liked to look for profits in online games. And by choosing to become dwarves, they could create equipment with the special crafting skill which would allow them to become millionaires in the game.
Hiro was sure that that was the reason most of the dwarves were Asian.
…
Before arriving at his destination, Hiro overheard a bunch of dwarf players noisily talking while sitting on wooden barrels on the roadside of the main street.
“Isn’t this too weird? Why is there no news about WynterRain’s appearance at that time at all?”
“Are they hiding it on purpose?”
“Right, I thought that too. It’s just too weird.”
“Do you think the game really has something to do with WynterRain’s death?”
“Should we bet?”
