Chapter 287 – The True Lord of the Embassy
Without turning to look at Shia and the others, I glared at what lay beyond the exploded door.
‘Are you alright?’
‘Yes, I’m fine. Thank you.’
‘I’m fine, thanks to you!’
“Grau.”
‘That’s good.’
We talked through telepathy. And I continued to use magic to search what was behind the door.
It was a room of decent size. Large enough to host a party with fifty guests.
But there wasn’t a single window, so it was quite dark.
And there was a throne-like chair on a platform, which seemed strange for an embassy.
A Vampire was sitting on it boldly.
While it wasn’t a true ancestor, it had immense magic energy. So it must be a High Lord who has been strengthened by the Evil God.
“Are you the boss here?”
“…You’re quite arrogant for an ape.”
Said the High Lord in a low voice as he looked down from his throne.
I slowly walked into the room. Grulf also followed me cautiously.
“Who gave you permission to enter here!”
The High Lord shouted furiously. And at the same time, lightning struck. I dodged it quickly.
“You seem very irritated. As if you’re panicking because your plan has failed?”
“…You’re getting carried away now, ape.”
As I slowly walked over to the High Lord, I continued to search the area with magic.
I wanted to find the magic device that was opening the hole in the divine barrier.
However, it would likely be a difficult task.
And not because it was concealed so well that I couldn’t detect anything. In fact, the problem was that I was detecting too much magic energy in the room.
It was filled with magic tools, magic stones and Vampire medals.
Trying to single out the magic device that was opening the hole would be very troublesome.
“…What do you think you’re searching for?”
Apparently, he had noticed what I was doing.
As he was a High Lord, he was also a skilled sorcerer.
“Surely you don’t have to ask?”
I answered, and then contacted the others with telepathy.
‘Shia, Serulis. Leave him to me.’
‘I understand. We’ll deal with the ambassador.’
‘Yes, we’re fine.’
I could still hear the ambassador shouting in the other room.
And then the ambassador’s subordinates, who had heard him, rushed to his aid. And so the fighting began.
There were ten in all. Warrior and sorcerers.
‘They are all thralls!’
‘Then we won’t have to hold back. That makes things easier!’
Shia and Serulis would be fine.
I had my own job to do, and I needed to do it quickly.
However, I still could not find the magic device.
“…I have a bad feeling about this.”
“…”
The High Lord was staring at me silently.
Taking him by surprise, I closed the gap between us in a single jump, and then slashed my sword at the High Lord sitting on his throne.
“Tsk!”
The High Lord twisted out of the way like some kind of soft-bodied creature. However, I changed the trajectory of the Devil King Sword as well.
And so my sword cut the High Lord’s belly open.
“…Your movements are fast for an ape…”
“And your movements are disgusting.”
The Vampire would sometimes move in ways that would be impossible for any creature with a spine.
Its movements were more similar to sea creatures, like an octopus.
And this would make it difficult to react to its movements.
However, I had seen them do this before, so it wasn’t too bad.
“You bastard…”
The High Lord was holding its stomach, where I had cut.
...
“How’s that? Monster. Surely that is nothing. And you can regenerate like the monster you are?”
However, the Vampire did no such thing, and continued to hold his wound.
“It’s almost as if there is a reason that you can’t heal yourself.”
“Don’t underestimate me!”
The High Lord then used its astonishing physical ability, and attacked me with his claws.
I dodged the attack and asked him,
“Is the thing inside of your stomach what’s stopping you from healing?”
“!!”
The High Lord looked stunned, and for a moment, his movements became slower.
The Lord that I had defeated in the village earlier, also had a device in his body, which created a barrier of the Evil God.
And that also strengthened him.
And so I had assumed that this one would also be hiding something in his body.
...
Not only that, but my magic had not been enough to find the device.
In that case, it seemed most likely that the thing that the High Lord was hiding inside of his body was the magic tool that was opening the hole in the divine barrier.
That’s what I thought.
“Hmm. It must be terrible for you, not being able to heal. Maybe I’ll help you by removing the cause.”
I dodged the High Lords brutal attacks as I moved closer. And then I thrust my right hand into the wound in his stomach.
And activated Drain Touch.
“AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRGHHH!!”
The High Lord began to shrivel in front of my eyes.
Once he was hit by it, his movements became sluggish.
And so I had plenty of time to search inside of his stomach.
