Black Zetsu hadn't expected Gensou to act so swiftly, so accurately, and in such an unexpected
manner.
In a single move, he had struck at Akatsuki's core.
Now, Nagato, the man behind Pain, and Konan's lives were uncertain; the Rinnegan and the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path had likely changed hands; and Kisame, Sasori, and others seemed to have been attacked, disappearing without a trace.
The mighty Akatsuki, known for capturing tailed beasts and feared by the great ninja villages, had been reduced to an empty shell almost overnight.
All that remained were Black Zetsu and Obito.
Back to square one.
Obito's current predicament perfectly illustrated this phrase.
Black Zetsu couldn't help but consider abandoning ship.
But on second thought, his current cover was as the embodiment of Madara's will. If he left Obito, it would expose his identity.
Besides, it was unlikely that Gensou would accept someone of his obscure origins.
So, Black Zetsu decided to stick with Obito for the time being.
After working together for so many years, he knew how deeply Obito believed in the Moon's Eye Plan.
Although Gensou had shown his hand and had been impressive, Black Zetsu had reservations. Having hidden for a thousand years, he wasn't about to trust someone so quickly.
Unlike Madara and Obito, Black Zetsu couldn't be certain that Gensou would wholeheartedly support the Moon's Eye Plan.
"Let's wait and see. If necessary, I still have my trump card."
Black Zetsu thought about the secret burial site of Madara that only he knew and felt reassured.
He turned his attention to Obito, whose expression shifted from confusion to a dark fury. Concerned that Obito might rush to his death meaninglessly, Black Zetsu quickly spoke up: "Lord Madara... I mean, Lord Madara left me with additional measures before he passed. Obito, don't lose heart; we still have a chance..."
The battle outside Mount Katsuragi had indeed stirred the shinobi world.
After securing the Rinnegan and the Demonic Statue, and uprooting Akatsuki entirely to repurpose it under his control, Gensou paid no heed to the external commotion.
After extracting the Five-Tails and Six-Tails, he didn't immediately proceed with the next phase of the tailed beast capture plan.
Uchiha Izumi, Uchiha Zetsu, Kisame, Sasori, and Kakuzu had all endured intense battles and multiple tailed beast extractions, leaving them exhausted and in need of recovery.
Thus, Gensou led them back to Jomae Village.
To be cautious, he didn't bring the newly recruited Kisame, Sasori, and Kakuzu into the village; instead, he stationed them at a hidden intelligence base within the Land of Fire, not far from the Land of Waves, to recuperate.
As for Hotaru, Tonbee, and Utakata, who had nowhere else to go and had chosen to follow, he allowed them into the village.
Unlike Kisame and the others, who still had missions awaiting them, these three would not be leaving the village anytime soon.
"There really is a city in the sky! It's so beautiful! So magnificent!"
Stepping out into the world for the first time and still feeling a bit nervous, Hotaru couldn't contain her excitement upon seeing Jomae Village in the sky, her eyes wide and mouth agape. "So, I'll be living in this city?"
It was her first time living among so many people, especially in a city floating above the clouds.
It reminded her of the fantastical stories she had read as a child.
Her initial anxiety dissipated, her face now filled with joy and anticipation.
Beside her, Tonbee and Utakata were just as awestruck as she was. After answering a few of Hotaru's questions, Gensou signaled for Hanare to assist them in settling in.
He himself sent a shadow clone to the office to handle some matters.
The original body, however, carried Hidan's head and body to the research base for study. As a considerate leader, Gensou understood the dedication and ambition of his employees. So, instead of resting upon his return, he immediately began scientific research to ensure Hidan, the new addition to his team, could return to work and fulfill his potential.
"Boss! Boss! Slow down! Really! No rush! I can wait longer!"
With his head now removed from Izumi's waist and placed in Gensou's hand upon reaching Jomae Village, Hidan, having lost his blindfold, watched door after door, each inscribed with sealing techniques, open before him.
Disinfection, deodorization, sterilization-all kinds of white sprays covered his body multiple times.
Then he saw a variety of unfamiliar but clearly ominous instruments spring to life before him.
He even recognized several White Zetsu clones submerged in nutrient tanks, giving off an
eerie vibe.
Despite his usual fearlessness, Hidan, with his immortal body, finally panicked, begging his new boss that he could wait as long as needed.
Though Hidan's concern was appreciated, Gensou would shoulder the responsibility
regardless.
Placing Hidan's head and body on the operating table, Gensou simply told him to "stay calm" before getting to work.
Two hours later.
With his research into Hidan's immortality complete, Gensou glanced at Hidan, whose screams had subsided, his gaze now vacant. He then focused on the report summarizing his
findings.
"Blood, bones, organs, brain-everything's just like an ordinary human's. When injured, he still bleeds, his bones break, and his organs get damaged. However, a strange energy, different from chakra, sustains his life force. Additionally, his healing rate far surpasses that of ordinary people. There's one prerequisite, though-he needs to consume a lot of nutrients, which means he has to eat a lot."
Having read the report, Gensou gained a thorough understanding of Hidan's immortality.
While he understood it, replicating the immortality technique itself proved elusive.
Just as the Moon's Eye Plan required the Rinnegan, gaining immortality would require the being Hidan worshipped-the so-called "Jashin."
"A being similar to the Grim Reaper, perhaps?"
Gensou's curiosity piqued, he walked over to Hidan, tapped him on the forehead, and said:
"Hidan, stop pretending. Preach to me."
"Preach?"
Hidan's vacant eyes suddenly sharpened.
Gensou was terrifying.
Despite the countless agonies he'd endured over the years, the so-called "scientific research"
he'd just undergone was a whole new level of torture, beyond his wildest nightmares.
Whoever said Jashinists were insane?
Hidan thought Gensou and his kind-scientists-were the real madmen!
Yet, his eyes gleamed at the mention of preaching.
Preaching!
Yes, preaching!
If Gensou joined the Jashin Cult, bound by its rules...
As the current leader of the Jashin Cult, Hidan would personally ensure that Gensou paid
dearly!
So, without waiting for Gensou to prompt him further, Hidan launched into an impassioned
sermon, expounding on the teachings of Jashin with all the fervor he could muster.
