Book 3: Chapter 8: Dual-Ability User? How Enticing!

Book 3: Chapter 8: Dual-Ability User? How Enticing!

Jiang Cheng thought the Daoist had attacked Chen Heng. However, he found he had been too naive when he turned his head back to look.

He found Chen Heng standing there with no damage. However, that middle-aged Daoist was floating as if something had caught him by the neck. His face flushed red as he struggled in the air.

The flesh of the Daoist’s arms was gone, leaving only bones. Furthermore, cracks covered those bones as though something had ripped all the flesh away.

Alright. It was Chen Heng. He simply could not stand this Daoist’s rambling on anymore.

Earlier, he thought back to the list of Secret Scholar Society members and finally remembered this Daoist. This person was part of the upper-middle management and had abducted many new ability users.

Simply saying this person was sinful would not cover it. Since that was the case, he deserved punishment. The Daoist was right about one thing: the hidden world followed the law of the jungle.

Chen Heng couldn’t do anything about far-off matters. However, this was an evil person right before him—a weak one at that—so he did not mind sending this person to meet King Yama.

[TL Note: King Yama is the judge/ruler of hell in Chinese mythology. Here is the Wikipedia entry on him: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yama_(Buddhism).]

Earlier, Chen Heng directly used his attraction ability to crush the Daoist’s arms but did not kill him.

“Stop! Who exactly are you?!” Even a fool could now tell Chen Heng was no newcomer. After all, how could a newcomer be so ruthless?

Jiang Cheng was certain Chen Heng was not a person to offend. That Daoist was still a Golden Core Realm cultivator, yet Chen Heng could suppress the Daoist so effortlessly, even instantly destroying two arms. Such a person’s strength was unfathomable.

Jiang Cheng had already verified that Chen Heng was an ability user. After all, the lightning earlier wasn’t fake. However, he should not be just a lightning-type ability user. Based on the ability he showed, Jiang Cheng guessed him to be a dual-ability user. The first ability was a lightning ability, and the other was likely telekinesis.

“Who am I? I’m not a fool. Why should I tell you? Why else would I wear a mask?” Chen Heng did not answer Jiang Cheng’s question.

“Quickly let that Daoist go and obediently return to the Special Affairs Bureau with me. Otherwise, don’t blame me for what I do next!” Although Jiang Cheng did not care about that middle-aged Daoist, he was still a Special Affairs Bureau member; he had to maintain the official line.

“Alright. You can stop pretending. Do you think I don’t know you, Assassin Jiang Cheng? You can forget about me following you to the Special Affairs Bureau or anything like that. You can’t defeat me, and I won’t obediently follow you to the Special Affairs Bureau.” Chen Heng waved his hand to tell Jiang Cheng to drop the act.

We are already old friends. How can I not know you? However, it was just a one-sided friendship on Chen Heng’s side at this time.

“We’ll have to try first before we know whether I can defeat you. An ability user’s strength is not determined purely by how powerful his ability is. It depends on how you use it too.” Jiang Cheng held up two daggers, crossing them. Then, he lowered his stance as if building up strength to charge Chen Heng.

“You are planning to sink into the shadow and then sneak behind me to assassinate me, right? I recall the Special Affairs Bureau just made the two daggers in your hand, the new Black Crystal Daggers, right?” Jiang Cheng was a cunning person. A frontal confrontation did not suit him, and he rarely did so. He preferred hiding in another’s shadow and catching them off-guard.

Chen Heng recognized the daggers Jiang Cheng held. These were the Black Crystal Daggers the Special Affairs Bureau custom-made for Jiang Cheng.

The Special Affairs Bureau forged them from a special material, black crystal. While the word used was “forged,” it was simply grinding two black crystals into dagger shapes.

Black crystals could absorb light. No matter how bright the environment was, they would not reflect any light. Furthermore, black crystals were very tough and sturdy. After the black crystals were ground into shape, the Special Affairs Bureau had added five layers of sharpness talisman scripts to it, making up for Jiang Cheng’s inadequate offense.

“You aren’t from the Special Affairs Bureau, too, right?” Jiang Cheng looked at Chen Heng, suspecting he was a Special Affairs Bureau member.

After all, the Black Crystal Daggers he held were custom-made for him by the Special Affairs Bureau only recently.

Special Affairs Bureau members were primarily split into internal members and external members.

The Special Affairs Bureau was stricter on internal members, considering them of its own. Like public servants, they were managed more strictly, and the expectations of them were higher.

However, the external members were a mixed pot with all sorts of strange people and monsters. There were undying immortals, cruel murderers, and even random women who would look at home in a vegetable market.

Furthermore, the Special Affairs Bureau rarely bothered the external members, only summoning them when there was something to do, similar treatment as mercenaries.

As long as the external members did not cause trouble, start conflicts with other factions, reveal their abilities to ordinary people, or harm the innocent masses, they could do as they pleased.

“Try guessing.”

“Guess, my ass! If you really are a Special Affairs Bureau external member, quickly let this Daoist go. Although I dislike him, he is a member of a regular faction of the hidden world. He has done nothing wrong nor committed any crimes.” Jiang Cheng advised Cheng Heng to release the Daoist, as he guessed Chen Heng was an external member.

“The Secret Scholar Society a regular faction? This is killing me with laughter! I will not let this Daoist go, and you cannot snatch him away. I understand your ability, in detail, at that. However, you know nothing about me.”

“What do you mean? Are you saying the Secret Scholar Society is doing something despicable in secret?” As mentioned earlier, Jiang Cheng did not care about the Daoist’s survival. He focused on Chen Heng’s evaluation of the Secret Scholar Society.

“Uh-huh! You can go to Number XX, XX Road, to look. That is one of the Secret Scholar Society’s labs. Their headquarters is at XXXXXX. If you want to surround and capture them, go there. I have always felt that being an assassin is a waste of your ability. You are better off in intel. Your ability is very convenient for hiding, and you can easily run when discovered.”

“Got it. I will take a look. However, that Daoist—” Jiang Cheng did not worry that this might be a trap. As Chen Heng said, if he got discovered, he could easily flee.

“Stop it! The Secret Scholar Society is an organization that conducts human experiments focusing on ability users new to the hidden world. This Daoist is not a good person, so I will help the Special Affairs Bureau and kill him for free. No need to thank me.” After saying that, Chen Heng snapped the Daoist’s neck, ending the Daoist’s pain.

“I’m going first then, bye-bye!” Chen Heng said to the preoccupied Jiang Cheng before leaving via a spatial jump.

Jiang Cheng did not care about Chen Heng leaving. He cared more about what Chen Heng had said.

“Human experimentation on new ability users?” Clearly, Chen Heng’s statement had brought up memories for Jiang Cheng.
