Chapter 1065 - The Senior from Two Thousand and Three Hundred Years Ago

Chapter 1065: The Senior from Two Thousand and Three Hundred Years Ago

When the people of Yingyun City heard that, they eyed him dubiously. As expected, this young man had ulterior motives. There was no way he would help them without expecting anything in return.

“What is it you need?” Huai Hongxiu asked carefully.

There was no such thing as a free lunch. If this young man would just get straight to it, that would really set everyone at ease. If it was a deal that Yingyun City could afford to make and this young man could really help them tide through this crisis, then that would undoubtedly be the most ideal outcome for all parties.

“Wise Man Huai Guang once obtained a sachet 2,300 years ago. All I need is that sachet,” Mo Wen said after thinking. That was what he had been instructed.

“A sachet?”

Everyone was taken aback. This young man had come all this way here just for a sachet? What was the sachet—could it be some mysterious treasure?

Everyone was trying to guess what that sachet could be. Just what was it about the sachet that would propel this young man to put his all into protecting them? It was probably no ordinary object.

“2,300 years ago... A sachet...”

Huai Hongxiu frowned as she thought carefully. Then, her eyes lit up. She looked at Mo Wen in shock as she said, “You’re that person that senior called over?”

Huai Hongxiu was overwhelmed with a rising surge of emotions. What her father had told her back then was finally coming true.

As the current mayor of Yingyun City, it went without saying that she had taken over every aspect of governing Yingyun City, and this included the treasures in their clan’s treasure trove. There was a sachet in the treasure trove that her father had long cherished and treated like a treasure.

Initially, she had not known what that sachet was, but she found out after. On a fateful journey 2,300 years ago, providence had led to her father to save a senior. Legend had it that that senior’s cultivation was unfathomable, and even her father could not compare. That sachet was something given to her father by that senior, and with it, her father could seek the senior out for help if he ever ran into any unresolvable crises.

Huai Hongxiu had known about this, but her father’s sudden passing had taken her by surprise, and she had no knowledge of how to contact that senior since. And as such, the thought of using this sachet to seek help had never crossed her mind. She never expected the owner of the sachet, that senior, to take the initiative to offer them support.

That senior? Mo Wen stroked his chin, declining to comment.

Judging by Huai Hongxiu’s expression, he could tell she more or less knew who the person who had given him this assignment was, and that sachet was likely to have some sort of connection to their relationship. But what did that have anything to do with him? That old lady was pulling strings and using her professional links to solve her own private issues. Mo Wen wanted to curse her.

But then, he thought about it. He had to complete a mission either way and if he changed it for another one, he might actually end up being stuck with a tougher one. At least this mission was not impossible for him.

The preliminary mission was assigned to an individual based on their own abilities. This was done to allow for everyone to be sufficiently tested, so such a mission would not be easy for anybody, whether they were at the preliminary stage of Tide Changing Realm or the great attainment of the Tide Changing Realm.

That old lady from the Sorcerer Clan was an ancient being at the Divine Illusionary Realm, so it was likely that she could tell, with just a glance, that Mo Wen was no ordinary cultivator. Even if he switched out for another mission, it might not necessarily be any easier than this one.

“Were you really sent by that senior? Will that senior come?” Huai Hongxiu said with glee.

She was exhilarated. The thought that the senior with a debt of gratitude to her father would take the initiative to help them had never once occurred to her.

According to her father, that senior’s cultivation was unfathomable, so their crisis would quickly be resolved if that senior would now come to Yingyun City.

“I’m more than enough.” Mo Wen shook his head. This preliminary mission was his, to begin with, so why would that person be here?

Huai Hongxiu became a little disappointed when she heard his response. Though this young man was not ordinary by any means—so much so that he could exchange blows with the Muhong City Mayor—he would probably not be sufficiently strong to protect Yingyun City. Yingyun City was currently too weak while the Muhong City Mayor was like the afternoon sun. The strengths of these two forces were simply too far apart, so how could a Tide Changing Realm cultivator turn the tides?

“Did that senior not say anything else?” Huai Hongxiu asked, her tone laced with expectations. She hoped that the senior had other plans and that this young man was not the only person she sent.

“That, I do not know.” Mo Wen shook his head.

“Alright, then.” Huai Hongxiu heaved a sigh. She knew that she would not be able to get any more information from this young man.

But one thing was for sure, this young man probably did not harbor any ill intentions to Yingyun City. After all, there were only a few people who knew about the existence of that sachet. Other than her father, Wise Man Huai Guang, she was the only other one who knew about it; not even her own younger sister knew.

“Please excuse my rudeness, Brother Mo. I didn’t know who you were before this. Do forgive me.” Huai Hongxiu bowed to Mo Wen, somewhat embarrassed. This man had traveled quite the distance to help them, and yet they were so suspicious of him.

The Huai Clan second young mistress and the people of Yingyun City stared curiously at Mo Wen. Did this person really have some connection to Yingyun City?

After that, the Huai Clan first young mistress hosted an elaborate welcoming banquet for Mo Wen, and all of the top officials and personalities of Yingyun City showed up. With the addition of someone as powerful as Mo Wen, the atmosphere in Yingyun City eased up somewhat, and it was not as dispirited and tense as it had been before.

After the recent events that unfolded, it was evident that the people of Muhong City would not be able to attack the city within a short period. Everyone relaxed, and the banquet was filled with joy and laughter.

After eating and drinking to his heart’s content, Mo Wen returned to the lodgings that Huai Hongxiu had prepared for him. In the time to come, he would be staying in Yingyun City, and he would only leave the place after Muhong City’s threat had been completely removed.

How could he resolve the issue of Muhong City’s threat? The best and most direct solution would obviously be to kill the mayor, and also a number of their higher-ups while he was at it.

However, the Muhong City Mayor was a Supreme Profundity Realm cultivator, and it was not that easy to kill that man. With Mo Wen’s current powers, killing a Supreme Profundity Realm cultivator was, in reality, a demanding feat. If he could break through to the Tide Changing Realm intermediary stage, then this task might become more tenable, so this plan was something he had to put more thought into.

Early next morning, Huai Hongxiu brought all of the Yingyun City higher-ups to Mo Wen’s manor to pay him a visit.

After the welcoming banquet last night, Mo Wen had acquainted himself with the higher-ups. Of this batch of people, most of them were at the Tide Changing Realm of the later stage. Four cultivators possessed the great attainment of the Tide Changing Realm, and this included Huai Hongxiu, who was most likely the strongest of them all.

Huai Hongxiu was blessed with inherent skills that were exceptional, and she had always been famous in the Ruyun Territorial Waters for being a genius female cultivator. In Yingyun City, she was seen as the most promising cultivator to break through to the Supreme Profundity Realm. Her prowess had only grown ever since she assumed the mayor’s position, and she had blocked a few waves of the Muhong City Mayor’s attacks with the help of a few of the main inherited treasures in Yingyun City.

The other three who had the great attainment of the Tide Changing Realm were all veterans of Yingyun City. The strongest of the three was Elder Xue, and this person was also barely a step away from the Supreme Profundity Realm.

Huai Hongxiu had brought a group of people to greet Mo Wen so early in the morning, and therefore it was apparent that they were here because of the Yingyun City issue.
