Chapter 9: The Earthling’s Defect

Chapter 9: The Earthling's Defect

His blue hair flapped wildly in the air as he looked to the side and saw the fatty who was descending even faster than he is.

And just when they were around 10 meters from the ground, he watched as Fatty Zhang smashed his fist on his chest and abruptly turned upright in the air, and immediately, Hael did the same just 2 seconds later.

There was no chance to doubt what would happen; against death, all options are feasible. And the moment he smashed his fist into the chest,

*WRRING WRIING*

The sound of machinery rapidly shifting and turning rang in his ears as he suddenly looked at his feet, the magic happening just three seconds later.

The soles beneath his shoes immediately blew out with an incredibly large amount of flames, slowing down his incredible descent, and just a meter from the ground, Hael found himself stopping in the air, the expected backlash from suddenly stopping in the air strangely canceled.

But when everyone gently landed on their feet, not causing much noise,

*BAAANG*

The sound rang out loud through the area as the entire crew turned to look at the source of the noise, and what came before their eyes was the comical scene of legs flailing in the air, while the head lay buried beneath the hot desert ground.

"Like seriously, who brought this kid in!!?" Aelia found herself asking for the second time, as Fatty Zhang came to Hale's rescue, dragging his feet upwards and removing his head from the ground.

*COUGH COUGH*

The sound of intense coughing could be heard as Hael coughed out loud. His eyebrows filled completely with sands as he turned to look at the remaining crew who currently had disgusted expressions on their faces! But how could they blame him? He was a prince, not a soldier!

"I swear to God. If you make a single more noise, I'll be feeding you off directly to the Eldritch, perhaps use your meat to lure them out to us. Then at least you'll have your name worth in the books as dying for the aid of humanity!!!" Aelia said as Hael's spine went cold.

"You can expect not one such again, Captain Aelia..." The voice came to his rescue and the person was none other than Zhang as Aelia slowly turned and walked forward, the group following behind him.

"You have to take this seriously, Hael. A single mishap and you'd be dead. Captain Aelia is a true reincarnation of a demon, and I don't doubt that she will kill you if you make a single more mistake. I can swear to that, and believe me, nobody will be interested in your death at all.

You'll be like the countless thousands, and simply be giving the honor of dying for the sake of humanity and that would be the end of your story.

So if you love yourself, start doing as you're taught for two years now!!!" Fatty Zhang said, and this time, Hael could sense the seriousness in his voice.

"I owe you a lot, Zhang. A lot!" Hael declared with a serious expression. How many times had he been lost or have almost died? But like a true brother, the fatty had always stood by him. He truly owed him a lot.

"You can repay me with a treat of doughnuts after the mission. Now come along, soldier, we have a death mission to complete!" Zhang declared as he quickly ran after the group, Hael following behind this time with a serious expression on his face. This was no longer the time to play; his life now was at risk.

"I have lost everything from Atheria. My father, my mother, my 500 loyal guardians who died without a single shred of doubt so just that I could escape. My fate has formerly been sealed before.

But now I have a new chance, a chance to change everything. "This mission won't be the last for me, for the sake of the five hundred guardians, for the sake of my father and my mother.

For the sake of what is rightfully mine, this won't be the end of me..." Hale swore as he joined the group and through the stormy desert, they walked on, leaving footprints on the ground which soon got covered by the blowing sands.

A simple phenomenon yet brought about a spine-chilling premonition. Perhaps, that would be how their deaths will be covered up if they ever returned.

"It is here, right here. The doorway to settlement is right here!!!" Captain Aelia declared as the entire group halted their advances and looked around the place.

There was nothing in sight but an endless expanse of never-ending sands.

"But...But this is only a desert, Captain!" A soldier whispered as Hale turned to look at the Captain and noticed she was holding a circular astral ball that was currently pulsing with a strange light.

'So that is what they use to track them. But, why can't they all see that the settlement is just below them!?' Hale thought in his head as he looked beneath their feet and he could clearly see the strange multicolored particles present in the air that pulsed out from beneath the sands.

That, to Hael, was the sign of a person who had unlocked his first gate in Atheria, the ability to perceive elemental energy.

But strangely all the crew couldn't sense it. Or they would have seen it already. Could it be that the humans here can't cultivate this elemental energy that they call prana and only the Eldritched can?" Hale mused secretly before deciding.

"Hey, Captain!" He called out as Aelia felt that strangely disgusting voice ringing in her ears once more.

"What is it, Kiddo?"

"I feel a strange force field beneath my feet, as if there is something beneath the ground. I just want to ask if you're all feeling it too..." Hale said with a confused expression as Aleia's face immediately shifted frown, and only now did she feel it, that strange force around her leg.

"Of course, if they choose to settle in the middle of the desert, then would it be any place but the Underground?"
