Chapter 43 - Fire
Chapter 43: Fire
“Yes, the others must have encountered a similar situation. It’s probably difficult to even confirm where the gathering location is now.”
After realizing that the trees in the forest could not only attack but also move quietly, the girl realized that it was difficult for them to reconcile with others.
“Let’s continue looking for water.”
Zhou Chen returned to his previous goal. Since they were going to spend seven days here, it was very important to find a water source.
“Is there really a water source in this forest?”
The girl was doubtful.
“There must be.”
Zhou Chen was confident.
“The system did not say that killing monsters will cause mineral water to drop, and we need to spend seven days here. Then, there should be a natural water source. The system will not directly make us die from thirst.”
Through his survival experience and the information on the forum, Zhou Chen felt that although the system often put Survivors in danger, it would not directly cause the Survivors to fall into a hopeless situation. Its arrangements would always leave some way to survive. It would depend on whether you were capable or lucky enough.
The two of them chose an unexplored direction and walked together with an increased pace.
After walking for a while, they realized that it had become darker.
“Night should arrive soon…”
The girl looked up at the occasionally visible dark sky through the leaves and judged.
“Moreover, judging from the weather, it might rain or snow at night.”
Zhou Chen rubbed his hands that were slightly red from the cold and continued.
“That’s good. If it rains, we will have water to drink.”
The girl’s eyes lit up. She was starting to feel a little thirsty.
“But we might lose our body temperature faster if it rains or snows.”
Zhou Chen began to consider building a simple shelter to keep away from the wind and rain. This was no less important than finding a water source.
“The leaves of the trees in this forest are very dense, so it shouldn’t be a problem.”
The girl immediately retorted.
The two of them walked forward for a while and found no water source. They stopped.
“We have to start a fire. It is getting colder.”
Zhou Chen was feeling quite uncomfortable from the cold even with his current physique. He really needed to start a fire to warm himself.
“I’ll cut some bushes. You can go search for some dry weeds.”
The ponytail girl was wearing leather clothes that were warmer than the desert camouflage suit. However, she could not hold on anymore after the night fell in the forest, so she held her glaive and went to look for firewood.
Zhou Chen did not have any objections to her suggestion. After all, the work she chose for herself was more strenuous. Zhou Chen was at ease about this because he had the important lighter.
After searching in the forest that was becoming dimmer and dimmer, Zhou Chen found a suitable ignition weed with his Low Light Vision. Or more accurately, he collected some kind of hair from a plant. He had tried this with a lighter and it was easy to light.
After the ponytail girl came with a large bundle of shrubs and thin branches, he placed the large handful of dry sticks and weeds he had found under a portion of the firewood and lit it with a lighter. Soon, the fire started.
In the now dark forest, they sat around the small fire in a narrow clearing.
“This Survival mission is quite peaceful. We haven’t encountered any monsters.”
The girl was sitting on some weeds, warming herself near the fire.
Zhou Chen was sitting opposite her. When he heard the girl’s words, he turned his head to observe his surroundings and looked up.
“There’s indeed no movement at the moment, but according to the style of the system, monsters might appear tonight.”
In the dark forest, Zhou Chen realized that his Low Light Vision had activated. He could see farther away than the light from the fire. After observing for a while, he did not see anything unusual.
“Let them come then. My glaive hasn’t tasted blood today.”
The girl said indifferently. She swiped her long fingers across the blade’s edge, and the blade reflected the jumping flames.
Time passed slowly. The two of them warmed themselves and added some firewood from time to time. The atmosphere was a little silent.
Suddenly, soft footsteps came from afar.
“There’s movement.”
The girl immediately stood up with her glaive and looked in the direction of the sound.
Zhou Chen also looked over at the same time. Unlike the girl who was frowning and could not see anything, he quickly determined that the newcomer was a person covered in weeds with his Low Light Vision. From the looks of it, it was the underwear man.
It did not take long for the underwear man, who was covered in weeds, to reach them. He used an ax to block the glaive in the girl’s hand.
“Stop! I am on the same side!”
After blocking the girl’s attack, he immediately revealed his identity. Then, he quickly squatted in front of the fire and extended his hands to warm them.
“I almost froze to death. Fortunately, I encountered you guys.”
“It’s you… your luck is really good.”
The girl immediately lowered her glaive when she recognized the person.
“Our side should be the only place with fire.”
She said proudly.
At this moment, Zhou Chen was observing this underwear man dressed in weeds.
“This person has been freezing naked in this cold forest for so long, but there is no obvious frostbite on his body, only some redness. His physique should be very high.”
“Can you share what you found in the day? For example, finding a water source or something.”
Zhou Chen felt that the man needed to exchange something for the fire, so he asked.
“Water source? I didn’t find it.”
This person shook his head after hearing Zhou Chen’s question.
“My only discovery is a fruit. It tastes very bad, but it can replenish water and stamina.”
“Let us take a look.”
The girl was instantly interested.
“I’ve finished everything I found…”
The man spread his hands.
“You ate them all? Aren’t you afraid of being poisoned?”
Zhou Chen expressed his doubt.
“Well, I can only say that it has to do with my talent. The risk of me being poisoned by food is very low.”
The man smiled at Zhou Chen.
“I see.”
Zhou Chen nodded slightly, but he thought to himself, ‘Going by this person’s words, others might not be able to eat what he can eat.’
Just as he was thinking, he suddenly felt a sharp sensation on his back. He sensed that there seemed to be danger coming from behind him. Without hesitation, he immediately rolled to the side and dodged.
“What’s wrong?”
The ponytail girl looked at Zhou Chen strangely when she saw him suddenly roll.
“Something was about to attack me.”
Zhou Chen stood up and looked behind him.
“It can’t be, right?”
The man also scanned the surroundings.
“I didn’t see anything coming.”
