Chapter 477 Spatial Steps

A number of students passed by William while he was growing accustomed to the Spell. At the current moment, he could only move four paces for every step, but that was nothing compared to how far he was progressing before.

The attackers continued to target William for a while, but when another group took the lead, he was promptly ignored. Regardless of if William triggered the opening of the 14th floor, anyone could steal the treasure.

When the fifth group passed William, they couldn't help but laugh. "What happened to all that speed from before? Are you running out of Mana?"

William was slightly frustrated by their words and wanted nothing more than to use all of his speed-based Elements to rush past everyone, but he knew that would only be a temporary win. The moment he was discovered by the Heavens, it would be over.

So, he redoubled his focus on the Space Element, working to improve the efficiency of his Spell.

From four paces per step to six, then eight. William compressed more and more Space into a single point until it was almost like a self-moving portal. There was no need for an actual portal, as long as he was moving in a straight line and there was nothing in between him and his target.

He looked towards the treasure, noticing that most groups were still only three quarters of the way to the treasure. That was because in a matter of seconds, the hallway had extended to nearly thirty kilometers long, and the treasure was still moving further away.

A few groups that expended all their energy in one go had stopped and were searching for other methods to acquire the treasure, realizing it would be worthless to chase it down like the others. The ones that were much closer were still rushing forward, hoping that the treasure would stop moving at some point.

William continued to compress the Space, his Mana Dominator Talent allowing him to better control the Mana in the area. Because the treasure was using a similar method to him, William was able to harness the ambient Space Mana into his own Spell.

Spatial Steps, as William would call it, were dozens of times easier to use in this area than anywhere else, turning the environment into an ideal training ground for a Space Mage. It was an interesting discovery, considering the Quake Dungeon should be suitable to Earth Mages instead, right?

Wait a minute... William realized something.

He turned on Mana Mode of his Vision Talent, allowing him to physically see the Mana around him. He looked towards the treasure first, where the Mana was strongest. Other than the Space Element, though, William noticed that the treasure was also emitting dense amounts of Earth Mana.

He followed the traces of Earth Mana, which funneled into the ground and formed the dungeon bricks that everyone was standing on. At the same rate that the Space Mana expanded the space of the hallway, the Earth Mana was making it longer with a different method.

It's not really a Fusion Spell, but it's pretty close! The treasure is casting two Spells at the same time!

William used his Cultivation to step into the air. To the other students, this didn't seem unusual, and a few had already done so, but the difference was that they were not Space Mages.

The students with the Space Element hadn't noticed that the hallway was extending, and the Earth Mages did not have a method to deal with the spatial expansion. While the Earth Mages flew above the floor, the Space Mages continued to stand on the ground while creating their portals.

It was the main reason why they hadn't made it to the treasure yet, and William was hoping to capitalize on that. He continued to train his Spatial Steps Spell, compressing the space between his feet further and further until he could cross over 200 paces in a single step.

At this point he started to catch up to the other groups, and not in a slow manner. While it looked like William was taking a casual stroll, his figure extended to an absurd angle and compressed just as fast.

The students that were well ahead of William only saw a blur before William's figure reappeared a dozen steps ahead of them. One more step, and he had already reached the next group.

The students tried to cast Spells to target William, but he was simply too fast. By the time a Lightning Bolt reached William, he was already an afterimage. He transitioned from a casual walk to a jog, each step covering the same amount of distance but at much greater pace.

Slam! William's body rammed into the treasure chest, the sudden impact knocking the air out of his lungs while he gasped for breath. The treasure continued to cast its Spells, but William reached out and grabbed ahold of the treasure with both hands, refusing to let go.

"He's caught the treasure! Shit, someone get him!" one of the students called, but it was to no avail.

None of their powerful Spells were fast enough to overcome the spatial expansion, and they themselves were too slow to cover the distance between themselves and the treasure. They could only sit down in frustration as William opened the chest and pulled out a small brown ring.

-Acquired Ring of Earthen Storage: +2 AP

The moment he held the Earthen Ring, William felt the room's extension slow down greatly. The treasure chest had stopped emitting Earth Mana.

Seeing the brown ring from afar, a few students were slightly jealous, but they didn't make a big fuss about the situation. Others, who didn't possess the Earth Element, were relieved and sat down to rest.

The blue-haired girl did the same, "It's just an Earthen Ring. I'm glad I didn't pull out any of my trump cards."

William looked down and inspected the Ring of Earthen Storage.

———

Ring of Earthen Storage (Uncommon Ascended Artifact): An Artifact designed by an unknown Tier 7 Array Master that was lost for many years. It seems a natural Dungeon absorbed this treasure and used it as reward for a trial. Can store large amounts of material created by the Earth Element for future use.

Effects while worn:n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

-Earthen Storage: Stores up to one million cubic meters of Earthen material. Can only store material created entirely from Earth Mana.

Stored Material: 400000/1000000

Durability: 5000000/5000000

———

William looked at the other students in confusion. After seeing the effects of the Ring of Earthen Storage, he could admit that they weren't amazing.

But they were definitely good! Who would pass up on such an Artifact?

If I empty all the brick from this ring and fill it with something like lead, couldn't I crush my enemies to death? One million cubic meters of lead would be like slamming a football stadium on someone's head!

Explore hidden tales at empire

While William thought of this, his keen eye noticed a tiny sparkle from a corner of the treasure chest and hidden behind its interior padding. If not for the Vision Talent allowing him to see through the smallest of gaps, he wouldn't have realized that there was yet another treasure inside the chest!
