Chapter 471 Morphing Devil Tree
Jonas and Benny both nodded while William looked through one of his Space Rings for some Pills and medicinal items such as burn ointment and various antidotes.
Most of these were acquired from other Cultivators, but considering how long some of the Space Rings were in his possession, William knew every item like the back of his hand.
Judging by the discoloration and damage to Jeron's arm, William guessed that the boss had attacks of poisonous nature and he didn't want to expose his other Elements while fighting.
Since his companions believed William to be solely a Space Mage, it would be best to find some explanation for his insane resistances.
Different from the boss room on the fifth floor, the giant double doors were not slightly open. Before they started the battle, Jonas spent almost the entirety of his Mana Reserves creating tall earthen walls, fifty-meter-deep pits, and other obstacles.
"You're a first year, right?" Benny asked William.
"Yeah?" William looked at Benny with some slight confusion. He didn't remember telling the kid about his status as a first year. On second thought, William realized there weren't many students in each yearly class.
The fact that they didn't recognize William initially was probably enough to make an accurate guess.
"You look older than me, but you probably haven't modified your Mana Circuits yet, huh?" Benny gave William a slight smirk.
"What are you getting at?" William couldn't understand this boy's train of thought.
"Haha, relax I'm just messing with you. Watch this." Benny's face hardened as he clasped his hands together, his veins popping out slightly and turning a dim blue color while incredibly thick Mana flowed through.
As the Mana gathered together and formed a ball of water, Benny flipped his wrist and channeled the Mana in reverse, absorbing the natural blue hue from the water and turning it almost perfectly clear.
Instead of looking like a deep ocean blue, the water ball was more like clear glass, allowing William to see through it without any issues. Using the clear water he gathered, Benny sprayed it into the pits created by Jonas.
William peered into one of the pits. Even when he disabled the Vision Talent, William was able to see clearly to the very bottom, which spoke volumes of the water's clarity.
"What's this for?" William asked.
Benny popped a powerful Mana Regeneration Pill in his mouth while tossing another to Jonas. He chewed the pill like a piece of gum, "It'll help us deal with the boss. You'll see. Are we all ready?"
Jeron gave confirmation first, while William and Jonas nodded simultaneously. Benny conjured a naturally colored ball of water and sprayed it with high pressure at the double doors, swinging them inward and revealing a ten-meter stump in the very center.
[Bestiary] Morphing Devil Tree: +1PP
For an Ascension-Realm Magical Beast, it was quite small, but the moment it detected the presence of Jeron and the others it suddenly changed. The stump elongated to more than twenty meters high, branches and leaves sprouting at the top until it looked just like the mythological Ent.
The creature had no eyes, mouth, or nose, but the base of the trunk seemed to shift and mold as if it was chewing on something. Moments later, a thick branch burst from the base of the trunk and shot towards Benny.
"Flame Lash!" Jeron shouted, signaling his intentions to the team while simultaneously casting the Spell.
A thick rope made of flames wrapped around the incoming branch and sliced it up, causing the extended portion to fall to the ground. A second Lash to the severed portion turned the extremity into ash, preventing the Beast's regeneration.
The branch retracted to its original position, then shot out once more, this time diving underground so the Flame Lash couldn't reach it. The branch tunneled for dozens of meters before reaching one of the earthen pits, its form becoming visible as it traveled through the water.
"Now!" Jeron shouted, though there was no need for the order.
Benny, having already spotted the tunneling branch, clasped his hands together and made a move.
"Hydro Compression!"
Jonas wasn't idle either, performing a similar movement but casting a different Spell.
"Rock Clamp!"
The clear water became dozens of times denser, slowing the movement of the branch to a crawl. At the same time, chunks of rock wrapped around the branch at several of the underwater zones, trapping it in place.
As the rock was affected by Benny's Water Magic, Benny channeled his Hydro Compression to target different areas, keeping the rock from becoming saturated into mud.
Everything was perfectly timed and well organized, as if the trio had battled in the exact same manner dozens of times before. Benny drew the attention at the start of the battle, then Jeron slashed apart the incoming branch.
The Morphing Devil Tree, possessing some intelligence, tried to avoid Jeron's Fire Magic and unintentionally fell into a secondary trap, leading to a combination attack that fully suppressed its movements.
Everything happened in the blink of an eye, but the tree was completely restrained before William even made a move! He couldn't help but see his companions in a new light, realizing that to do the same he would need to show off multiple Elements and waste much more Mana than they had.
"We're not done yet! Use your Space Magic to protect me while I target the trunk!" Jeron shouted to William.
William looked over to see a second movement from the Morphing Devil Tree, a crevice opening up in its trunk while a spray of discolored wooden needles flew through the air in mass towards Jeron. Jeron's warning couldn't have come at a better time. Experience tales with empire
Using a hint of his Mana Reserves, William opened a portal in front of Jeron, and another behind the Morphing Tree. The needles passed through the first portal, reappearing and embedding themselves into the boss.
When the needles touched the Tree, William saw the discoloration spread throughout the trunk, forming small purple blotches that made the trunk seem mushy. Jeron used William's portal to cast his Flame Lash through, targeting the soft spots on the trunk with his Spell.
The Morphing Devil Tree was set ablaze and flinched, but it expelled a purplish-green gas from its body, somehow eliminating the flame before it could cause too much damage. A green hue enveloped the Tree, healing all injuries dealt to it in an instant.
"Don't send the needles back to the tree! It has a limited amount of poison in its system, but it can recover by ingesting its own poison!" Jeron shouted.
William nodded and tried to create another set of portals to stop another wave of needles, but his 359-degree vision suddenly picked up a small icy projectile targeting his back. There was no indication of where the ice originated from, but William didn't have time to think about that.
To protect both himself and Jeron, William was forced to create four portals in succession, making the best use of his Thought Acceleration Effect to give him the maximum amount of time to react.
The first set of portals sent the Morphing Tree's needles into the ceiling, while the second set changed the trajectory of the ice and sent it flying towards the boss.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
