Chapter 358: Berphanses
"You talk like a hive mind, you know that?" William commented.
Ever since the beginning of the battle, none of them had spoken alone. If he didn't know any better, he would have thought the six Tribulation Transcendence Cultivators were all Array Puppets. How hilarious that would be!
The Cultivators didn't respond even though he hadn't restricted their ability to speak. They continued muttering to himself, until finally coming to a conclusion.
"Are you... at the Territory level?" they asked carefully.
The idea of an Elemental Territory wasn't unheard of, but it hadn't been seen for a very long time. The last individual to wield a Territory was Efretta, but no one had come close to that level since, as if it had become impossible to reach such a level.
In a sense, it was. The few individuals that became B-Rank Manamatus were incredibly few, and almost all of them were doomed to die prematurely before they could awaken their Domain, much less the Territory.
The leaders of the Continents saw them as both assets and threats, and would treat the individuals only as tools to their own purposes until they had grown to a semi-threatening level. Following that point, the Manamatus were killed without a second thought. This was true amongst all Continents.
Only when the leading organization of the Continent awakened a genius would they do their best to protect them, but that was when the criminal organizations and other Continents would get involved. Supreme Left was one of the targeted individuals, but he thankfully survived long enough to become an existence that no one wanted to mess with.
Since Yu Shinpai, William was the next individual to be targeted by multiple countries in recent times, but the news never reached the Velos Continent, since they were so isolated from the rest of the World that they often didn't care about what happened elsewhere.
By the time William showed up and started wreaking havoc, it was too late. Their informants that left for the Azures Continent hadn't come back yet, since the round-trip would take weeks even if one had a flying mount.
Even Uri would take almost two weeks to travel both ways, and that didn't count the information-gathering period.
With the Cultivators all suppressed, William looted their bodies for treasures and stored the interesting items with Marcus' two pink rings, opting to investigate them further at a later date.
Afterwards, William gathered them up and took them back to the Velos Faction's territory to be checked by their Patriarch. Vitruvius Velos came out personally to inspect the individuals, surprised to see that William had succeeded in hardly any time at all.
"That's him." Vitruvius pointed to the first Tribulation Transcendence Cultivator that was hooked by William's arm. It was a bald man just like the one that William had thought was the true Patriarch, but he didn't have a beard and his face bore two parallel scars across his left cheek.
So, they tried to trick me, huh? It's a good thing I brought them all back. William realized.
As Tribulation Transcendence Cultivators, they had likely learned many unique and dirty tricks. Since they didn't know what William looked like, they relied on filtering the flow of information to keep their Patriarch's unique aura from being leaked.
Who would've known that William wasn't only strong enough to take on seven Tribulation Transcendence Cultivators at once, but he could also capture them simultaneously? Their plan was doomed to fail from the beginning, they just never realized it.
"What do you want me to do with them?" William asked. With no treasures left to take, William had already lost interest in this group. He wanted to move on to the next Faction's territory as soon as possible, before the others received word of the Laotonus Faction's condition.
"Whatever you want. Kill them if you so wish, Esteemed Cultivator William. Though I'll be taking the Patriarch into my own hands, if you don't mind." Vitruvius responded with a slight bow. William's strength made him a bit nervous, so Vitruvius did his best to keep his words polite.
William nodded and took the Cultivators back into his possession. He didn't have an immediate plan for the group, but he supposed he could make them work the mines for a while.
Though, these guys didn't really do anything to me. I feel bad for taking advantage of them in such a way.
-And you don't feel bad about taking their items?
I earned those!
-After beating them up and suppressing them, sure.
It's a Cultivation World, at least I'm not killing them! I respect how far they've come without a cheat like mine.
-At least you admit that you wouldn't last without me.
The familiar outline of the System appeared with a light smirk, knowing that it had won the mental battle with William once more.
How many times have you done this to me? William complained.
-Do you dare to keep track?
...
William bade Vitruvius Velos farewell and proceeded to the next Faction's territory. Their original agreement was that William would only have to take on the strongest, the Andorea Faction, but he didn't wish to see countless innocents die, so he planned to use his overwhelming strength for a good purpose this time.
If only a few people die because I am here, it's better than millions dying because I am not.
He headed towards the second strongest of the three Factions next, the Beronius Faction. Just like before, William opened his Life Domain and expanded his senses immediately to cover the entire area, but this time wasn't as easy as the others.
All of the Tribulation Transcendence auras were singular and weren't joined by others, so William would have to visit each aura one by one until the Patriarch was caught. This would be quite the time-waster, if not for a massive statue in the Capital City that sported a large sign.
"Behold the mighty Patriarch of the Beronius Faction. Here stands Berphanses Beronius, the mightiest Cultivator in all of the Beronius Faction's existence! Est. 2024"
Hmm, unless this guy has died in the last year, I'd have to say this is the person I'm looking for. How nice of them, and arrogant, to even display his aura!
William performed a second scan with his Life Sense, easily locating the Berphanses individual that had Cultivation at the very peak of the Tribulation Transcendence Realm. His aura was fluctuating wildly, seeming to be yet another Cultivator trying to suppress himself and remain on Efretta for longer.
If I push this guy too far he's going to try to Ascend... I'm really not trying to gain unnecessary Attention, so I'll have to catch him before then.
William prepared a Tier 6 Confinement Array in advance, then teleported directly in front of the individual and cast the Array before Berphanses even had time to react. Before he could try to resist the Array, William layered the Territory of Sealing on top and immobilized the man directly.
"One more left. How are you feeling today, Berphanses?" William smiled and unsealed the man's mouth.
"Who the fuck are you? And why are you in my house?" Berphanses stared at William with anger.
William was so focused on the man's aura that he failed to notice the woman next to Berphanses, who seemed to be lacking in both Cultivation and clothes.
"Oops."
