Chapter 85: We Kill?
.....
'A setup.'
'This old dickhead agrees with the opinions of his Ministers. After all, it truly would be a waste to give so much Territory to a family that's seemingly on their last legs. Therefore, it only makes sense that the Emperor would contemplate ways of 'disposing' of the nuisances taking up space in his Nation.'
'Of course, if he could openly dispose of us, he probably would've done that already. But since that outcome would not do any favors for his reputation, he had hence decided to go about it in a roundabout manner. In other words, he's about to send Li Yan to her death.'
And just as Lucifer expected, the Fire Emperor continued from where he left off, saying, "Since you are now the Head of an Assassin Household, it is only natural that you try your hand at a true assassination. So, with careful consideration, I have found you the perfect target for which to make your debut."
With a smiling expression, he said these words. But on the inside, his malicious intentions could be seen as clear as day.
"!!!" "!!!" "!!!"
The rest of the ministers and advisors quickly caught on to what their Majesty was doing. And to say the least, they never once doubted his decision-making skills!
"..."
Li Yan looked around at all the fake smiles plastered on the faces of those who knew very well what kind of world they lived in.
From the moment Li Yan gained consciousness, she too knew the truth of the world…
It was not one for the weak. It was not one that forgives those who couldn't defend themselves.
Being merciful? What was that?
So what if she were at an age where she should be playing with toys in a safe environment??
From the very beginning, Li Yan understood that everyone was against her.
Everyone besides one…
Upon feeling the warm energy being transmitted into her frail figure by her big brother, Li Yan knew she wasn't alone.
She may be disposable, but now she had someone. And for her, that was good enough.
So, with a resolute gleam in her dead gaze, she listened to the Fire Emperor carefully explain the details of a mission that was 'completely doable'.
Li Yan was aware that the mission was bullshit.
So did Lucifer, the Emperor, the Ministers, the Princess and Princes, the Queens and Concubines. Hell, even the youngest of the royalty knew that everything coming out the mouth of their Emperor was bullshit!
But regardless of the stupid shit being spewed from the mouth of their ruler, there was not a single damn thing they could do about it.
After all, when faced with greater power, all who were weaker must bend and break.
This was the way of the world.
And it would always be that way…
However, what was a cultivator?
One who defies the fate of the Heavens!
And who was Lucifer?
Someone who gave absolutely no fucks!
'Umu! These dumbshits all think they have us in an inescapable net. And they would likely be correct in that assumption.'
'At least, that would be the case if not for this little sister of mine.'
'Although weak, just her young age and frail social status among nobility have allowed her to bypass direct execution.'
'On the other hand, if I were to reveal that I were still alive, there would undoubtedly be an ax to my neck within the next 20 seconds.'
'But with Li Yan as the figurehead, everyone treats her as a little kid—a joke per se.'
'Not a single one of these bozos treats her as a threat to their positions or control over what was not even theirs to begin with.'
'In layman's terms, this entire room is filled with people with too much pride to contain.'
'For pride… Too much of it only spells doom.'
'And in this case, pride equals loot!'
As Lucifer's thoughts stirred, Princess Lianhua focused on him; the Emperor coerced Li Yan, and the Ministers worked with him in getting the 'naive' Devilduke heir to do whatever stupid shit they conjured up.
By the end of this silly little fiasco, Li Yan and her servant were seen leaving the golden doors of the Throne Room.
In their hands, there was a copy of the document that signed off on Li Yan being crowned the official heir of the Devildukes. Whereas, within the other hand, there was a shiny purple 'Assasination Contract' for the Devildukes. Which, in the confines of the paper, stated that they were to sneak into the Water Nation and kill someone known as the Water Weaver.
Li Yan received little to no information about this target. However, from what tidbits the Ministers were willing to reveal, the target was someone in the Middle Nascent Soul Realm and was known for the terrible ways that she treated Fire Nation prisoners.
That was quite literally all that the King and his parade of douchebags were willing to disclose. As for the rest of the missing pieces, well, that didn't really matter, now did it?
After all, in the eyes of the King and his subordinates, Li Yan and her inconsequential servant were already destined for death…
-
Step Step Step
Lucifer, in disguise, and Li Yan, in normal human mode, walked out of the Fire Nation's Castle. Both wearing neutral expressions, they exited the castle as if everything were completely normal.
Upon making it a sufficient distance away from the castle, they suddenly stopped in their tracks and stared at each other.
"We kill…?" Li Yan asked.
"Yes, we kill."
Upon confirming her speculations, Lucifer lifted her up and put her on his shoulders. Then, with a light blowing of the wind, his feet lifted off the ground and vanished into the setting sun.
Tonight, they would be killing someone.
"They're on the move; quickly give chase."
From behind the two fleeting figures, there were more than a dozen men in black skin tight clothes, all of whom trailed the siblings with deadly intent in their gazes.
