Chapter 56: Indra Passing By
Chapter 56: Indra Passing By
Jian was cursing Biyu more than he thought he would ever have any need to. Her plan was simply too risky and yet he couldn't go against it. Reaping all the rewards, and of such a big event at that...It would be a huge boon for his order. Not all the items they would steal would be useful to him. But most of them would be heaven sent. He already knew he would spending at least three months training after getting those items, simply because he would be too excited at the prospect of training like crazy while using items he couldn't have ever dreamt of possessing.
Just the prizes for 3rd place would make sure he would shoot right to the mortal realm. That meant he would be reaching Jin Wang's level....Although the man was sure to have grown stronger, and according to a lot of rumors, Jin Wang had only started to grow stronger a month or two before Jian entered the sect, which meant if such rumors were true that Jin Wang would've reach new heights by now.
It didn't matter to Jian in the end. Now he only had one thing in mind, making sure this plan would work. And for that he needed to go and register for the little even that was planned to start off the tournament.
Random people between the age of 14 and 24 would come and show off their skills to the crowd and the ones that would impress the crowd and judges the most would be taking a part of the prizes. That event had been prepared by the crown prince and so none of the heirs dared complain, although it was truly just random people stealing said heirs' prizes and that angered more than one young master.
In truth, all of the heirs were pissed off, but they knew that no one would be gifted anything too crazy, after all the royal family couldn't just throw away their precious treasures to peasants, while the elites of the country battled for said treasures.
And so, here was Jian. Sitting on a bench and waiting for his number to be called. He had previously waited in a long line before someone gave him a number and told him he needed to wait for said number to be called. He would then be lead to a room where an inspector would verify if Jian was eligible or not.
Now that he was there, he had to admit he was feeling quite bad. All the people who had gone to register were desperate...They needed those prizes, and he knew deep down, that none of them could compete with him. Not because he was stronger than them, he barely trained after all, but this event was different.
They needed to show off their unique skills, not battle each others. And his Kishins' powers were simply too exotic for the judges not to crown him the winner. He had been hesitating before that, he wanted to show off something else. But in the end, if he was to distract everyone, he had to do it with his most eye-catching skills. That and he honestly didn't think the mission would be a success if he showed off anything else.
Those powers of his were sure to make everyone's jaws drop. Biyu would be given an ample amount of time to steal the prizes, so that was a sacrifice he was willing to make. That and he would be registering as The Crow, so no one would know that the simple disciple Jian possessed this kind of bizarre power.
Yet, his disguise was also eye-catching, and more than a few eyes were locked on him. One such pair of eyes belonged to a young master who looked more than just slightly interested in Jian.
This was...Strange. Young Masters weren't supposed to participate in this event. Of course Jian had seen his fair share of unique people in the building, but he hadn't seen anyone who looked like a noble. Except a certain girl who gave off extremely cold vibes and who ignored him as soon as he walked in.
"Hello there, stranger." The Young Master said as he sat besides Jian. He had immediately put his arm around Jian's shoulder and had dismissed his servants. This was already becoming quite suspiscious.
"Stranger ?"
"My, of course you are one. This sort of outfit...This aura....Those eyes. Pretty I never saw you here. And I know everyone who shows at least the tiniest bit of talent. So either you are indeed a stranger...Or you are wasting your time here." The Young Master said, while Jian changed his whole view of the man. A sudden switch in the man's expression told Jian all he needed to know.
This was the sort of man the Worms hated to deal with.....A shark. Not a snake like the Worms and the Flies, no this was more than that. Not only was he a cunning one, he also had a hint of savageness hidden deep inside those blue eyes of his.
"I would say I'm one of those two....But for a weird reason, I don't want you to know which one I am." Jian exclaimed, glaring at the Young Master with his cursed eyes. He had tried many times on Biyu, and apparently whenever he activated those eyes, he could just keep them on even without using any curses. It made him appear much more dangerous than he truly was, and the young master immediately reacted upon seeing those.
A gulp followed by a scratch on the head. The noble man had his answer. This was a stranger, and a dangerous one at that.
"Very well then, I know what I need to know. However I came to see you, not just to get an answer to that question."
"What is it ?" Jian asked as he looked around. This wasn't a simple young master, if the sudden change in behaviour from the onlookers was anything to go by. Not only had they stopped gazing at Jian, they were now shivering. And this wasn't caused by his intimidating eyes of his cloak or anything coming off of him.
'Mara, system ?'
' I have no idea kid. I can't sense him directly. Maybe you didn't notice, but I am not exactly controlling your body right now. And doing it costs me a lot of energy, energy I cannot restore normally. So can't tell, and I don't really care. He seems like a normal noble to me.'
[ Do not listen to the monster, User. He simply grew up in a weird place. This noble is quite interesting, have a look at his status. ]
'Don't mind if I do.'
[ Name: Indra Yuyan
Known Relatives: Indra Qiang
Age: 26
Talent: 0
Rank: Mortal Realm 4th Form
Unique Techniques: Non-Existent
Martial Spirit: Non-Existent
Soul Heritage: Ever-Changing Body (Rank: ?????)
Thoughts: Lust, Interest. ]
' Wait a second, he is even less talented than me ? And what's with that lust ?!' Jian thought as he started to think that this situation was getting weirder and weirder. He was so confused and lost in his own thoughts that he didn't hear Mara talking about ' Feminine Name' or whatever it was the unholy being was saying.
" Well.....You seem quite interesting. I came here only to do some sighteeing...I'm not really inclined to show my abilities. Although you are quite the eye-catching person...You are the one they call The Crow, huh ?" The noble suddenly said.
Jian was still lost in his thoughts, and had been focusing on the man's family name , but said man's words had gotten him back to normal.
" How do you know about me ? I can't be that famous, or rather infamous, already."
And it was the case. The Crow wasn't really known. But the rare people who have heard of it because of Sun Sheng, the fourth prince or the patriarch, had been talking between each others. This young master from the Indra family seemed to be well informed.
" Oh...I just happens to have really good ears. However fear not, I won't reveal this to anyone. I didn't even come here for you. I had no idea you would come. But now that you are here...I figured I could give you my card."
" Card ?"
Jian looked at the little card the man was holding between his fingers and blinked. This man was like a shady merchant.
Nevertheless, Jian accepted the card and pocketed it without even glancing at what was written on it.
" If you need someone with some good ears and eyes, go to the places listed on the card. That or ask for me in any inns of the continent's capitals. I'm not exactly famous myself, but I made sure people could join me easily, I do happen to have a lot of money. " Yuyan said whilst winking at Jian who shivered. Now that he got a good look at the man, he wasn't even feminine or anything. He was a rather handsome young master who didn't look even remotely close to those hedonistic people who swinged both ways.....Then again Jian knew next to nothing about the world as a whole, so he shouldn't be surprised there were all kinds of people out there.
" If you are already rich, what would you expect in exchange for your favors ?"
"Weapons, treasures...Truly anything a cultivator could ever come to need in life." Yuyan said with a hint of despair in his voice that Jian didn't catch, although Mara did catch it. He was all too used to this kind of people, for he was once like that.
And with that, the second member of the Indra Family Jian ever met, walked away without glancing back.
"Number 209 !" A woman exclaimed.
Jian lifted his head and groaned.
' Perfect timing....Damnit.' He thought as he dragged his body towards said woman. He had a lot of thinking to do, but he knew he had to wait for that. Now he needed to put some sparkles in that woman's eyes whoever she was.
And she didn't seem to be a random inspector.
" Woah...That weird kid just got who I think he got ?" Another inspector said while hi colleague paled.
" The kid must've killed a baby in another life....Only the unluckiest ones get her. I think she only passed one guy last time she was asked to do an exam. " The other colleague said. A third one appeared, holding a cup of tea in his hand as he faked winced.
" This gotta hurt. Her standards are so goddamn high. She rejected that ice kid a few hours ago. I would've passed him with ease. Kid was a beast, but nooooo....Doesn't have enough control she said. I swear she just wants to slights those kids. She is more bitter than a lemon." The third one said, getting chuckles from the other two as he gave them their own cups.
Jian was led to a small room with only one window in the back and two couches. The woman sat on one of them, and Jian remained standing. The woman looked at him with approving eyes and crossed one leg over the other.
"Begin. Show me your best skill, you have a minute. I will then decide whether you are elligible or not. You won't contest my decision. No matter who your family is, no matter who is backing you up...I don't care. You can bring people to attack me later on because my decision didn't please...I'm destroying them and then I'll come for you. Also if you need to fight to demonstrate your ability...Well I didn't excercise today." She said with the calmest tone of voice before she put on glasses and tied her long red hair in a ponytail.
Jian remained voiceless while Mara whistled.
' Where do I sign to marry that one ?!'
