Chapter 36
Seven Kill
As Meng Jingtian was spawn-camping Bai Wensheng, the assassins of Godslayer Hall were in an uproar.
The several dozen assassins of Black Tortoise City had jointly signed a letter of protest, leaving the upper echelons of Godslayer Hall hard-pressed.
“Seven Kill has finished his mission, and he’s heading for Black Tortoise City now. Although the employer only paid for a Class C mission, due to the negative effects Meng Jingtian has had on our organization, those above have decided to kill him until he withdraws from the game so that everyone can vent their anger. Everyone, please be patient,” Godslayer No.1 consoled the various assassins in the group chat.
“As for the losses to equipment and experience suffered by everyone, the organization has already gotten in touch with the number one guild. Soon, a member of the organization will take everyone to quickly level back up.” Deserving of its reputation as a large organization, Godslayer Hall was not in as disastrous a state as outsiders imagined. Everything was still proceeding in an orderly fashion.
After receiving this answer, the assassins grew much calmer. Many of them had worked for Godslayer Hall for many years and had some confidence in it.
After wiping out Bai Wensheng’s equipment and levels, Meng Jingtian logged off to rest. After all, spending the entire day spawn-camping was rather draining.
The next day, upon logging in, Meng Jingtian saw that Cai Minghou had sent him a message.
“Brother Tian! Holy hell! Why didn’t you take me along for something as big as retaliating against Godslayer Hall?”
“It’s not the time for you to show up yet, right? Relax; if I need your help, I won’t be polite.” Meng Jingtian smiled as he replied.
“Brother Tian! You finally logged on! What sort of trouble did you stir? Do you know who Godslayer Hall sent for you?” Cai Minghou almost instantly replied.
“Who?” Meng Jingtian asked, narrowing his eyes. He hadn’t had time to go on the forums yet.
“Seven Kill! The one who got the guildmaster of Forgotten Sorrows Island!” Cai Minghou replied.
“Seven Kill!” Meng Jingtian muttered the name several times. This was one of the strongest assassins in Godslayer Hall. Forgotten Sorrows Island had been the third strongest guild in the game of that period.
“It seems that they have a really high opinion of me, so how can I disappoint them?” Meng Jingtian replied to Cai Minghou.
Despite his words, he was taking this matter seriously.
He checked over his equipment. After a day of spawn-camping and the ‘selfless donations’ from the assassins of Godslayer Hall, he had gathered up a full set of purple equipment.
But as he had gone an entire day without grinding, he was still at Level 36. Nangong Qi had already caught up.
Although he knew that Seven Kill could appear at any time, Meng Jingtian, after some hesitation, got in touch with Zhang Defa and prepared to go looking for treasure.
Meng Jingtian had two missions on hand. One was the main quest mission, which would be done in two days. There was no way of speeding that up.
The other was a chain mission, which was quite difficult, and which he wasn’t confident about completing. He wanted to get some more equipment and level up before reconsidering the mission.
The Frozen Sword Sect was near Black Tortoise City, and Meng Jingtian could take the teleportation portal straight to it.
His appearance flabbergasted some players who had just joined the Frozen Sword Sect and were still running missions.
“My god! Isn’t that… isn’t that the big boss who has been challenging Godslayer Hall? Why is he here? Is he also part of our Frozen Sword Sect?”
“Really? It seems like I chose the right sect! I’ll have all my guild members join the Frozen Sword Sect right now!”
Such was the so-called celebrity effect. Thanks to Godslayer Hall, Meng Jingtian had now become an authentic celebrity in this game.
“Hey! Brother Tian! Over here!” Zhang Defa ran up, panting for breath. His purple title of ‘Frozen Sword Sect First Senior Brother’ stood out among the ordinary players in the Frozen Sword Sect.
“Isn’t that our first senior brother?” The spectating crowd in the Frozen Sword Sect chattered, the outline of some big drama instantly taking form in their mind.
“Ah, do you think Meng Jingtian is angry because he couldn’t get the title of First Senior Brother, so he’s challenging him?”
“It’s possible! Look here; Godslayer Hall is an organization of assassins, and is there anyone who was killed by an assassin organization who would retaliate against the assassins? At most, people would retaliate against the person who hired the assassins, right? But Meng Jingtian can! And this is Godslayer Hall we’re talking about!”
“So where’s this treasure?” Alas, the battle the spectators were looking forward to did not take place. Laughing, Meng Jingtian walked over to Zhang Defa, causing the jaws of the Frozen Sword Sect disciples to drop.
“Our first senior brother actually knows Meng Jingtian!” someone called out in alarm after a few moments.
By now, Meng Jingtian was a ‘god’ in the eyes of ordinary players. Even the fact that someone near them knew Meng Jingtian left them flabbergasted.
This was because a ‘god’ like this should have only existed in their conversations, not be someone they could actually interact with.
“It’s at the back of the sect’s mountain. It’s not hard to find, but the monsters are pretty difficult,” Zhang Defa explained.
Zhang Defa led Meng Jingtian over to a cliff, walked up to the edge, and pointed down. “Halfway down the mountain is a cave, which is where we should be going. But a bunch of Level 25 cloud cranes are flying around the cave entrance, and in this terrain, they’re hard to deal with.”
Meng Jingtian looked over and saw that the cloud cranes had a Friendliness of 100 to him, and he couldn’t help but laugh.
For ordinary players, getting down this cliff would be very difficult, and there was a pack of mobs waiting down below. It was truly a trap.
But for Meng Jingtian, these weren’t mobs—they were allies!
“It’ll be easy if I go down myself, but if I bring you… it won’t be that easy.”
Zhang Defa was taken aback, but without asking the reason, he handed the treasure map over. “Then I’ll have to trouble you, Boss Meng! It seems that I can just sit back and wait for the good results.”
Meng Jingtian glanced at him in shock. This guy was truly easy to work with. Was he not worried that Meng Jingtian would take the treasure for himself and make false claims on what was inside?
As the two were chatting, a cold-faced youth in a long, black robe and carrying a long, black sword slowly walked up to them.
Meng Jingtian sensed his presence, ended his conversation with Zhang Defa, and turned to the player that was slowly walking toward him. “‘Chen Yiming’?”
Meng Jingtian raised an eyebrow and asked, “So you’re Seven Kill?”
Zhang Defa didn’t know what was going on at first, but when he heard this, his eyes lit up, and he immediately started recording.
“Correct!” Seven Kill nodded and sized Meng Jingtian up. “‘Tomorrow’ truly deserves its reputation as the first global online game. It seems that many hidden experts have shown up.”
With one glance, Seven Kill could tell that Meng Jingtian was not the Seven-foot-sword Immortal, nor was he the Wandering Drunken Scholar or any other famous online gamer.
Even if they weren’t mission targets, Seven Kill had still watched those people. After all, someone might make them a target one day.
But for him, Meng Jingtian was truly a brand-new expert.
Unbeknownst to him, Meng Jingtian was no hidden expert at all. He had never been trying to hide anything. It was just that in previous games, Meng Jingtian had never reached a level where he was worthy of Seven Kill’s attention.
